  1. my 1.8ghz is slow
  2. i was having the same problem. after about playing... 20 mins or so of music, my comp would give me a blue screen, dump the memory, then reboot. with vista 5536. with 5384 i couldnt play anything as i had no sound. im going back to XP because of it, but idk when ill reload, school is starting on tuesday for me. i can do it, i jsut dont feel like it.
  3. yup, i did. i cant seem to find it. i know the boot disc was on 2000 install cd, but i guess under XP they have removed it because they figure everyone can install from the cd. is it the disc that wont boot or the computer? if its the disc, you can make a bootable cd using nLite. if its the computer, ill be very surprised because it should have the option to boot from the cd-rom on a 64bit motherboard.
  4. the boot disks should be on the windows xp cd. ill see if i can find where they are located on my cd.
  5. wow thats quite the list there. thanks!
  6. this might help you. http://bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm scroll down till you see the "Windows XP 6 disk set". hope that helps if starting setup from DOS doesnt work.
  7. iv already tried to repair the install of IE6 and i turned on protected storage and that didnt work either. i got irritated and just installed my nLited windows 2000
  8. hehe ok, ill post where the default colors are.
  9. im trying to change a few things within windows 2000. i have 2003, but it doesnt run on my laptop so i would like to change a few things in 2000 to make it look a little more updated. i have changed the about bitmap, but thats the only one i can fine. i would like to change the startup logo thingy (not the boot screen) that appears when you logon and when its applying personal settings and stuff. i cant seem to locate this bitmap. does anyone perhaps know where the image is located? i would just like to know. i dont need any help other than that, thanks edit : nevermind >_< i got it lol. it was msgina.dll that i had to modify. now to change the default boot up colors... anyone know how? edit2: why did i even bother asking? i got it 5 minutes after posting >_< sorry for the post here. Open regedit and goto "HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Colors" you can use the regular windows color editor in paint to get the colors. mods: delete if you feel neccessary.
  10. well, heres how i did it. i had a batch file to install each hotfix and created a shortcut to the bat file inside the install file. in the installer options, i set it up to run the shortcut to the bat file. if you just make it run the bat file, for some reason, it doesn't work. i couldnt determine what it was because the cmd window went by way to fast. after doing that, i just created the install. if i had faster internet, id upload my pack for everyone to download.
  11. wow... thats pretty weird. i loaded IE7 fine and didnt get that. what would it be for you to reload that computer? that might be what your headed for
  12. your very welcome! im glad it worked out for you
  13. im no network admin, hell, im only 16. iv never had problems with virus's and stuff
  14. all these weird polls are getting out of hand lately imo. too many. oh, and the title should be "How Many times do you roll over at night?"
  15. admin. if your careful, you can prevent things from happening.
  16. for my own update pack, i used a program to create an install called . it did what i needed. the only problem i had was getting the thing to run the batch file after extracting the updates to a temp folder.
  17. that reg key didnt work. i think its because i removed or turned and option on in nLite. I just upgraded to IE7 and that fixed it.
  18. unfortuneatly, your out of luck. you'll need to obtain a disc with 98. you cant download it as that is considered warez. you can get one cheap from ebay or an older computer store. they may have one somewhere. the service packs are just updates for windows 98, i highly doubt that can be helpful here, but its worth a shot. your stuck anyway.
  19. no, firefox is another web browser. im actually having the same problem you are with IE on my laptop. it involved me messing around with the Index.dat file in cookies lol. im gonna keep playing around with it and see if i can fix it. ill post back with any progress.
  20. whats wrong with maxtor i have 3 and they have all been working fine, 2 are 3 years old, and one is about 6 or 7.
  21. i just test various peice of software under various OS's. im usually testing a copy of my nLited copy of XP or 2000. rarely do i run a single copy of windows in it, theres always a vpc being made
  22. i wrote a little guide you may like to check out. it shows you how to download, backup and even create your own little makeshift "service pack" (although not a real one, but it does the job) i have used it on 3 XP computers so far, and it worked just fine. i even packaged it into an EXE file and i just run that, then it goes through and installs all the windows updates. you can find it here: http://brian.my-place.us/sp3.htm
  23. idk how much i can help here as summer break is coming to a close very soon. but if i can, i will help and partiticipate in this project.
  24. sounds like an incompatibility with your computer. your best bet may be to wait until a newer version is released. either that, or try Xubuntu. it uses the XFC desktop environment which i find fast.
  25. your very welcome, im glad it worked regards, cygnus
