New Norton Killer Available
prx984 replied to Andromeda43's topic in Malware Prevention and Security
heres how i do it, i dont install it at all in my opinion though, theres no option better than just plain 'ol reloading your computer to clean it all out. but if that option doesn't work for you, im sure noton killer is perfect. -
heres how i would make it so the boot loader doesnt come up. Click start ---> right click on my computer ---> properties ---> advanced tab ---> 3rd settings button (at the bottom) ---> set "time to display list of operating systems" to 0. that should make it automatically boot without showing the loader. hope this helps

the card does work with 9, it ran fine on my machine. im pretty sure itll work, i remember running red faction's setup thingy and it said direct x 9.0 (up to date) maybe they just didnt bother updating the above information? the card is getting kinda old. either way, its a good card for 20 - 40 bucks. it should revive your machine, and hey, maybe itll be faster?
-
thats weird, what kind of file are you trying to start?
-
what are you trying to do? create an unattended install cd? or just copy the contents of the cd to the drive for backup purposes? if the latter is true, just create an ISO image of the disc for backup. If you want to create an unattended cd, just use nLite, it will keep pre-activation. i have created many of my dell oem cd's for my laptops with nLite and they install and run just fine. hope this helps!

hi and welcome to the forum. to answer your question, you should just be able to put it in the startup directory and it will run the program.
-
the 7000 even supports DX9 if im not mistaken. i had that card installed on my desktop until not too long ago and 9 worked fine. it was the sapphire radeon 7000 with 64mb. i payed 50 bucks for it 3 years ago, so im sure you can get it dirt cheap.

Im trying to make a batch file that will delete the unneccessary shortcuts off the start menu on the first boot after an unattended install of XP. i have written the batch file, but everytime i try to delete a shortcut even in command prompt, i get a stupid error saying it cannot fine the file. i have tried the 7'3 format and the full file name, but neither works. theres gotta be something i am doing wrong. i have already written a file that will delete temporary internet files upon startup and that works perfectly fine for me. also, i have written a file that will copy that to my startup menu after an install and run after everyboot. theres gotta be something im totally overlooking, if any one could give me a hand here, id much appreciate it. i want to use nLite to its fullest potential Edit: >_< i just figured it out after posting, i had 7 characters before the ~1.lnk part of the shortcut name, i changed it to 6 characters and it fixed it.

the geforce line is by nVidia. anyway, if you can, see if you can find the original radeon 7000 cards. they were pretty cheap last time i checked (20 bucks canadian) they supported agp 1, 2, and 4 x i beleive. mine ran fine at 2x. the card even supported windows 95, so i think youll be fine in that respect. if you can just get a hold of a card like that, i think you'd be fine. either that, or look for a used computer store and see if they have any older computer parts. you might get lucky oh, welcome to the forums too!

those look cool! now i wish i had a decent printer >_<

its too bad that program has ceased development. great little program, iv changed so many icons in different programs.
-
the theme i linked to is an MSSTYLES theme. you just extract it to "C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\" and away you go, provided you have the UXtheme patched. as far as i know, you can double click on the .msstyle file and itll open in display properties under appearance.

How do I know what kind of graphics card my comp has?
prx984 replied to Fluttergirl's topic in Windows 9x/ME
i just thought of something else you can try. boot the computer in safe mode (pressing F8 before the Windows boot logo comes up then choosing safe mode from the list) then, when its in safe mode, right click on my computer, goto properties, hardware tab, click the + again next to display adapters, remove the standard pci graphics adapter by right clicking on it then clicking remove. reboot the computer normally then let it find the new hardware. my assumption is that windows already had the driver's loaded for the card, so they have to be on the drive still. it should load it up, it may ask your for the 98 se cd too. -

is the computer a name brand or is it a clone (one that was built from different parts) if its a brand name, give us the model and company name if you could. that could really help us out. -

well, the easiest way to find out what card is in your computer is... Right click on my computer ---> properties ---> hardware tab ---> click the + next to "Display Adapters" then it should tell you what it is. if it says "standard vga" then you have a problem. the driver may not be loaded. try that, then post back if you could. oh , and welcome to the forums! -
@Fredledingue, i know what you mean, windows 2000 was the same. for some reason they changed it under XP/2000 could put a shortcut to the folder, but then it wont show up in the folder tree on the left. thats about all i can say on this topic. but back to your original topic, i too had the same feeling just the other day. i was using my armada 1700 and for some reason, everything just went together. i liked it.

iv gotten into the imaging thing. i still like to do the occasional reload though, just to clean things out. or if i install a new peice of hardware.
-
true, they are good set of speakers, thats for sure.
-
those are nice B) the speakers arent really 64 watts, its 32 RMS and 64peak. but im pretty sure its getting close though. the sub on these things are awsome. have we gotten off topic?
-
ill say, i can make stuff in my room vibrate they're no match to my stereo though, but these speakers are great for games and music! i found the best sub volume was around 80% for me. that way its not overpowering, but you still feel the beat.
-
you can also do that in explorer by going to properties of the pic. it should tell you in there too. you have the same speakers as me logitech x-230's? if so i think theyre setup backwards
