Just FYI... Looks like the default settings in my system were changed at some time in the past decade, lol. Following the guide i was repeatedly getting the error that some ActiveX can't run. Also tried to directly open one of the scripts in ,y proxy log ( http://fe2.update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/shared/js/tgar.js?637838310220275095 ) and i was told that my security settings won't allow me to download it. After reseting the trusted zone to the medium setting i finally got to the Express/Custom choice. Now, after few minutes of scanning, i'm at error 0x80072F78, heh... Does anyone know where the default settings for the zones are stored?

My Browser Builds (Part 3)
RainyShadow replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
Maybe a fork of Decentraleyes (or something similar) could be employed to serve these modified files? -
Is it possible to add ECDHE ciphers to Xp or is it a stupid thought?
RainyShadow replied to maile3241's topic in Windows XP
I think this was attempted before without success. Check the begining of the few big related threads (about TLS 1.2, or the WU/MU one maybe), it was mentioned somewhere there. -
My Browser Builds (Part 3)

Yup, you are correct (as usual) Additionally, the wayback.archive.org URLs now redirect to web.archive.org , pfff. In the last few weeks i'm mostly using Edge on another system for browsing, and switching to the XP system mainly to watch my regular TV series, so missed the increase in broken sites... -

I believe this registry edit would only disable the already available ciphers. To add new ones they have to be programmed in the .DLL that does the actual work. -

I often use this format: https://web.archive.org/web/1999*/https://www.example.com to get the calendar for a specific year, then pick a snapshot from there. -

Ok, i may get a warning again, but... AFAIK he updated couple libs, then compiled the thing as .exe, and also made a launcher script for the lazy. Then kept it all private! Just like his other tools! It just ticks me the wrong way to see mainly his build advertised here despite it not being publicly available, while there is no mention of the always available official builds. Imagine someone new here sees that, then goes to ask for this private build, but the guy hasn't even been around for almost two years ...

I don't get it. What's so great about the build by @heinoganda to receive so much praise by MSFN members as if he was the original dev?!? I have used the official version of ProxHTTPSProxyMII on my XP without any problems ever since i heard about it. I'm not having any of his "PM me to get the download link" crap...

Sigmatel audio products were bought by IDT. Anyways, since you tried all that and it didn't help, maybe it doesn't really matter in your case

Windows Vista (and Search) Preview Pane for Windows Xp
RainyShadow replied to AMIRZ's topic in Windows XP
This one works, lol Try this instead: http://web.archive.org/web/20101210140928/https://msfn.org/board/topic/121713-windows-vista-and-search-preview-pane-for-windows-xp/ -
Well, obviously you have messed something up Windows programs are actually two programs in one .exe file. One of them is the actual Windows program you use, the other is a small DOS program displaying the "This program can not be run in DOS mode" message. When you start them from command.com (the MS-DOS prompt, which is a DOS program too), the DOS part takes priority. Windows normally has a way to detect the Windows part of the program and start it instead (not sure how exactly), but you somehow disabled that. Do you need to start your programs specifically from the MS-DOS prompt? If not, use a Windows program to start them instead. Have you tried using Winfile? Or try some other replacement, like i.e. ExplorerASM or 7-Zip. A few more alternatives here - https://www.simplehelp.net/2006/10/11/10-windows-explorer-alternatives-compared-and-reviewed/ Maybe you could get a hint about how to fix this by examining the installer scripts of Win32s? Running Windows 98 in 2020 and beyond...
RainyShadow replied to Wunderbar98's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Just stumbled upon this interesting video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-ZZkZk9QRk For anyone near Dallas, Texas, who would like to dive in a warehouse full of piles upon piles of retro stuff and take all you can for a flat entry fee. If anyone ends up going, share here your loot, lol. -

You can uninstall some update and try again. Pick one for which you have the installer locally though, just in case About that error, maybe try to delay the WU service startup until your proxy is running. There is an "Automatic (delayed)" option in newer Windows, not sure if you can set it in XP through the registry. Or set the service to manual/disabled, then run it later from a startup batch file.

So, i thought i would check my current status and opened the MU site from the original link in my Start menu (it starts "C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\muweb.dll,LaunchMUSite" ). IE8 went in a loop reloading the site and asking me to allow ActiveX and i kept clicking on "Yes". I added the domains from the last page to my config.ini, but it kept looping. When i clicked "No", the site finally loaded and offered me to re-register the MU components. After letting it do this, it was still looping whenever i allow ActiveX. So, the site didn't work. I checked the Automatic updates Control Panel applet - all selections were grayed-out. About a minute later i got a popup in the systray for available updates. Checking that, i had 137 updates, lol. Mostly POSReady, a few .NET, and a few XP updates. I picked some "Cumulative IE update..." and it installed fine, then asked me to reboot.
