  1. well ping of course works... no failure of any kind (under 1ms) and i also tried with username and password still no lock no firewalls,
  2. u'r welcome, i'm glad u solved the problem, i can only wish that it was written by me though thank sysinternals...(wininternals..) bad thing it was caused by mario.exe I love mario (the game )
  3. that'd be me i've been getting emails & screenshots from gta mailing list!! my obsession with gta started back with gta 1 (i also got the classic edition of it xp compatible) i just love all gta's!!!
  4. well yes i had tried with the ip too, hasn't changed. also tried -i it still says not found... i've disabled the firewall already.. 1 thing I can think of is, maybe my router somehow messes this up? though i've the hardware firewall disabled... -f is not even a choice since it complains about the comp not beening found, i tried it anyways, it didn't work. just tried the sysinternals shutdown command, its not working i tried with ip as well but it says not found?? which services should I need to enable? enabled: routing & remote access enabled: seconday logon enabled: all the rpc stuff... still not working??? what do u mean by rpc connectivity? nothings working??? wierd what the heck? do i need to copy the PsShutdn utility to the computer i'm trying to shutdown as well??? trying all the settings with both the address and the ip confused here do i need a domain or something to do this? and do i need to enable any services on my comp to accomplish this?
  5. i haven't said anything about it, i just said if u're going to change a reg hack in that zip file, i think it should be mentioned somewhere in this thread. unless u point in your 1st post that its been updated and this, that & that has been corrected by this. I haven't said anything about using them all blindly!
  6. well easiest way would be to get a switch/router or a simple hub. this way u can easily add other machines. but if u really really don't want to do that u can purchase another ethernet card to your computer. ok here's the setup your comp will have 2 ethernet cards 1 will be connected to the cable modem other will be connected to the other computer. and u'll enable internet sharing connection in your computer. and this way it'll work perfectly. only problem this will cause is if the other computer wants to get online while your computer is shut down...
  7. check your %temp% folder application data folder c:\windows\**uninstall** folders c:\windows\LastGood c:\windows\LastGood.tmp c:\windows\installer c:\windows\Downloaded Installations and as mentioned if u don't use system restore disable it completely. get ace utilities and it has a nice utility that shows the folder sizes and percantages. I couldn't explain it but its usefull when u're trying to find which folder takes up too much space... also since u've upgraded from ME, there are many many files that are left overs from that. so if u could install fresh xp if u're willing to format your hdd some day and integrate sp2 in it... and further more while doing that use nlite to gain diskspace (also not a big deal but drivers.cab uses about 70mb so u can decrease that )
  8. hi there I'm trying to shutdown my 2nd pc via remote shutdown using shutdown.exe both pc's are in mshome.net workgroup connected by a router using dsl. gaming, folder sharing, etc.. everything's working. but i cannot remotely shut it down. it says the network path was not found the pc i'm trying to shutdown is called main i'm using shutdown -s -m \\main is my usage wrong? what's the problem here? main pc uses xp home sp2 (has shutdown.exe) my comp uses xp pro sp2 (has shutdown.exe as well) i don't understand how its not working I've tried \\main.mshome.net \\main. \\mshome.net\main \\mshome\main \\main.mshome \\mshome.main aa going nuts here!
  9. i don't know if this would solve your problem but version 1.6.2 is released. ow prathapml already posted that.....
  10. well i just installed a usb flash key driver to my mom's old laptop which has win98se, the usb flash key comes with a driver cd and the driver's in there. after i've installed it it worked awesome. so what's the brand of your usb flash key? try searching for a driver for it. afaik win98 don't have a driver for it..
  11. i think ppl should be aware if the file contains wrong entries, this way they can easily change it, unless u state that "these files have been changed" or something... also there are multiple entries of the same reg hack like 1 will be in hkey_current user one will be under hkey_local_machine , they're correct 1 applies for the current user the other one applies to all new users...
  12. @Ghettochild could u remove those attachments that don't work? so ppl won't get confused?
  13. u could also use partition magic boot disk to do those.. won't be automated though. also search the board, i've seen many ppl ask this question and have tried numerous ways to accomplish this. most ppl write their own batch file..
  14. things to do: go to http://www.sysinternals.com/files/autoruns.zip and download the autoruns file which is a tool to monitor your start-up folders then download process explorer http://www.sysinternals.com/files/procexpnt.zip once u dl process explorer look for ambiguous files and close them. then open up autoruns program and locate suspicious files. look for their paths and manually go to those folders and delete those files. then delete the ambiguios files that u see in there, like random numbers or characters, if u're unsure there is a save option under "file" choose that and post. after that restart, then check if the problem still persists. if so u've 2 more option. 1. go to symantec's mario.exe removal tool and use it. 2. download some free spyware removal tools, (those help too!) and first update their definitions and remove the spywares. after these steps u should be fine. if u're uncertain of anything contact me...
  15. i just found out about warezp2p program, the interface looks like kazaa's has about 1M users otherwise I use dc++, azureus, shareaza, emule... whats a magnet dl? shareaza has it but i've never seen a link to magnet.
  16. lol true
  17. that's wierd i've mobile cpu on my laptop and runs little slow and heats up since its in the laptop powered with small fans. but i'm sure it either lacks the cache or number of transistors or something??
  18. thanks saved me from playing with the msi ow btw are there any noticable updates and nice features in 8.05?
  19. well after reading lots and lots about graphics cards (i was going to buy 1 too) I decided on waiting for x700 - 6600, yes they're said to be pci express but in the article's I read it was mentioned that those cards will have agp versions as well. so i'm waiting for them as for u I don't really understand why u want to change your 9800pro? did u come across a game where it cannot handle? also as a poor student u're looking at high end expensive cards... u can overclock your 9800pro to 9800xt in a few easy steps. (get the bios from 9800xt and it'd run fine but read articles at tomshardware..) or simply increase the memory clock and the core clock.... anyways i'd say that unless u really really hate your 9800, wait for a while....and try looking into overclocking....and b4 buying go look into hw comparisons. (tom's hardware recommended....)
  20. version of the motherboard? u mean bios version or something right? if that's so its easy with the tools mentioned but mb version never heard that?? ow ow i see u mean like asus k7n8x intel884835abc type of thing??
  21. well if u're looking for an enclosure i had bought mine from http://www.caloptic.com, i've speedzter 3 & 5 i love them, anyways but i bought these bc i didn't know how the quailities of those frequently sold models in ebay would be.. caloptics is expensive,....
  22. well if u have xp pro u can set the folders permission. u can even disable the users from browsing the contents of it but if u're looking for an alternate program File Protector 2000, not the best out there (not free) but it did its job, it hid the files until u open the program and entered the password, and there was something called magic folders, I don't remember how it was, but i'd say best way is to go with xp's own sec tools,
  23. I'm not sure why u're in need of a software. do u want to backup the current windows install as well or something? I mean if u just want to backup files why don't u copy or move them to the external hdd?? that's what I often do for backup purposes.... anyways acronis true image would be a nice start for backup. it copies the partition but afaik u need to have an unpartitioned drive to make a backup, i'm sure u'd check but check to make sure and if u haven't bought the hdd yet western digital has nice external devices for usb2/firewire (i'm not sure if for firewire 800) http://westerndigital.com/en/products/ext_hd.asp ow and in those pages u'll see options for the disk sizes on the bottom right, just so that u won't miss it also the dual option ones have a built-in backup option (1 click backup? I'm not really sure what it does) why am I advertising this well long b4 I found about these external devices I went out and bought a internal hdd 120 gb 7200 rpm and bought a nice dual enclosure and payed so much for both of them. now the price is like 30% when u get and external from wd instead of buying those separetly and having 8mb cache helps and never ever had a problem with WD. @wd I want $ %10
  24. I've set 2gb (without paging file) and I've 430mb left. and this is hardly maintained since the temp folder gets filled so fast and my temp internet files for ie is 10mb. also the application data folder gets filled up so fast as well (most of the apps I use fill there) so I usually try to set them to other partitions of mine. c drive contents (windows & documents & settings) on my next install i'll probably set it to 3gb just to be able to get rid of the temp and other files less often.. but if u're going to include your program files in there, I don't know how many programs u use but 2.5 seems to be not enough, at least for me, also if u have paging in there and since virtual memory will be written in there and install shield msi files will be stored in c:\windows\installer I'd definitely increase that amount to at least 3gb. (definitely more!) ow and 1 more thing if u use your desktop often, like put your dled files or other files on the desktop your c drive will get filled pretty soon. 2 ways to recover that, either set the desktop to other partitions or change the partition size...
  25. what portion of my post did u read? yes thank u for replying but I specificly said I don't want ftp 2 ftp .... yes I know that it has to exist on the ftp, I'm wondering if there are any utilities out there that will allow me to directly download a file to my ftp
