There could be an incompatible device that's causing winxp to hang on the driver loading phase. Disable everything but the absolute neccesary and try booting up again. Also, post ur system.
You should ALWAYS back everything up just on the off chance that the upgrade might get interrupted. But, when performing an upgrade, the only thing that's changed are the system files and the registry. Everything else stays in it's place.
You'd have to block certain ports. It really depends on what browser you are using. In IE, go to internet options, click security, click the internet icon and click custom level. Scroll down until you see the downloads section and disable downloads.
U forgot: Prison: You get pumped in the rear when bending over. Work: You get pumped in the rear when bending over, metaphorically speaking, but it feels the same.
Port scanning happens to everyone. It's just a dumb pc that's uploaded with a port scanner. I used to do it. I actually got into a remote pc's registry. Also got access to the floppy, HDD, and optical drive.
I think it's 5 hardware changes as long as you don't change the motherboard. 3 if you do. You'll always get the Product activation thing unless you get the volume license key.
When you double-click the device's properties in device manager, what are the issues? Generally an exclamation point means that there is a driver issue.
When dealing with NTFS and sharing permissions, the most restrictive permissions get put in place. By default, the everyone group get full control. If this was changed so that it was removed, you'll more than likely have issues. Since the everyone group was proabably removed, you deny access to everyone unless specifically specified in the shared permissions. I hope this helps.
If the connections get's dropped you'd see the little wireless icon in the status bar go red or something. Do you have the proper network set up? ad-hoc, or infrastructure? It's also possible that it's the server. When I had dial-up and used aim, and I got disconnected, it never signed me off. Could be a virus, scan the system.
The problem with those "certification study guides" is that they only teach you how to pass the test. What good is it to pass the test but not know the systems intrecate workings. Experience can only tell you so much. But if you just wanna pass the test, you can't go wrong with books from Sybex or QUE certification.
**** man, maybe ur pc is haunted. That or maybe one of ur components is fried. You should check the status of every one of 'em, HDD, FDD (if any), DVD-CD, video card, w/e. Anything that might spin.
