  1. It's proabably a script kiddie who scanned ur system and found some ports. What kinda firewall are you using?
  2. Well, there's been 34 view so far. I seriously doubt NO ONE copied that serial.
  3. Ur gonna have to use a script with the password in clear text. http://www.experts-exchange.com/Operating_...Q_20906129.html
  4. I really like the drop-down list thing on top. Other than that I don't see much of a difference. BTW, there's a Yahoo building about 15min from my house.
  5. Well, for one thing, you'll never get the full 54Mbps rate. But here go some routers. BTW, all of these routers offer at least 108Mbps speeds and are under $100, and offer WPA-SPK as well as MAC address filtering: TRENDnet TEW-611BRP BELKIN F5D8230-4 BUFFALO WHR-HP-G54 ASUS WL-520g BUFFALO WHR-G54S Airnet AWR014G8 TRENDnet TEW-511BRP
  6. If you think it's the pst files then go here: fix If you think it's ur acct settings, then you should visit the ISPs web site. Most have configuration explinations.
  7. It doesn't matter, it's really just personal preference. The stock sound length is 4sec. I have a 10sec. clip of the Carlie Brown theme song. Just make sure that it's a wave. Also, the lenght really depends on the speed of ur computer. If ur running a slow proc, the sound wont load for a short period. Just experiment. Also make sure to back up the original sound file in case you want to revert. As for the text to speech thing. That's an accesibility option. Click the windows key and "U". This'll open up the narrator which is essentially a text to speech thing. The problem with this is that since it's synthesized, it doesn't sound very good. You'll have better quality if you get a free audio editor that allows you to add special effects to sounds. Some give the sound a robotic/virtual sound.
  8. Is it turned on? Right-click My Computer and goto the Automatic Updates tab. Make sure it's on the recommended setting.
  9. I had the same problem with XP and 2K. Turned out 2K networking wont work well with Simple File Sharing turned on in XP.
  10. You may be able to run them using the runas /user:administrator "program.exe" command.
  11. How do you know McAfee is causing the problem?
  12. This assumes that you have SP2 with the firewall turned on. Double-click Windows Firewall. Make sure it's set to on. Click Exceptions. Place a check on File and Print Sharing exception and click the edit button. Click all the ports listed and click the scope button. From here click Custom List and input the IP addresses that can use the printer. Click OK twice. Now, while still in the Exceptions tab, click Add Port. Type a name in and for port, type in 80. Click change scope and do the same thing you did for the printers. Hope this helps, good luck.
  13. Make sure that the IP addresses are in the same subnet. If you have any firewalls, configure them to allow the IP address range in ur network. Finally, there is a wizard to configure ur network. Go into network connections and in network tasks click Set up a home or small office network. Just follow the onscreen prompts. I don't know if it's the same in Vista, but XP lets you make a disk to use on other PCs to configure them. Keep in mind though that this does nothing to you firewall if you have one.
  14. How did you disable it? Can't you just run it by going to the Accessories folder in the Start Menu and cliking program compatibility wizard?
  15. Domain groups and local groups are kept seperate. Any changes you make locally aren't propegated at the domain level, and vice versa. You can add a computer to a domain but not the actual users unless you are logged on to the server.
  16. You have to have the hard disk partitioned. Also, you have to have XP installed with the Fat32 file system.
  17. Look in ur %systemroot%\media folder and look for a file called Windows Logon sound. In XP it's Windows XP logon sound. It plays the sound upon logon. You could make your own to say "Hello Dave." Just make sure you rename it exactly as to the sound that originally plays.
  18. You can schedule any defrager. Just use the Task Scheduler in the Control Panel. Other than that, go to download.com.
  19. You want to remove the admin password while the OS is installing? You can't. If AFTER installing you want to remove the admin password while having user permissions, you can't. Unless you have a password cracker on some type of holding media.
  20. M$ has nothing to do with l33t 5p34k. It's another way of saying the money hungry corporation. And yes, I like their operating systems and what not. That still doesn't change the fact that on alot of their products they gouge you.
  21. Right click the start button and click open. Move it asside so that you can see Recycle bin and click and drag it into the start menu folder. For my videos, make a shortcut to the folder by right clicking and clicking create shortcut. Click and drag that into the Start menu folder that you have open. To do this for every account, open up the All Users folder in Documents and Settings and do the same thing, copy it into the Start Menu folder.
  22. You don't know what M$ means? Micro$osft. And because I'm gonna take it by the end of this month. As of today I'm at the end of the book.
