  1. So the best way to go about this, is to install Slackware, then install the LXDE and be done. My time is limited atm, but I can gradually piece it together. I'm back to working 12 hours a day since holidays are over with. Thanks again.
  2. Hi guys, I'm starting a new mission and I need some help. I have been looking into Linux for the past couple of months and decided Slackware will be best for my needs. I have downloaded the latest mini version http://www.slackware.com/~alien/slackboot/mini/14.1/ Now, what I want to do is make this my programming system. The specs are Compaq Armada E500, 30GB HDD, 512MB, DVD-ROM. I want to rebuild the ISO with LXDE http://lxde.org/ The LXDE ISO is 750MB and Slackware is only 53MB. That don't add up! I only want the desktop environment and nothing else. That means no music player, movie player, games, image viewer etc....Here's a tutorial but doesn't show you how to build a full ISO http://slackware.ponce.cc/blog/2010/08/23/easily-build-yourself-lxde-with-sbopkg/ There will one program on this system and the necessary plugins. PYTHON. That's it.
  3. Thanks guys. Drugwash, I would need to launch the .CHM file first because it has all the instructions. Maybe I should have took a BATCH course, because its not my strong field either. One of my computers just died, so I have to strip it a part and salvage the hardware. I will play with the batch code later. Thanks
  4. I remember once upon a time, people had doubted I had hundreds of users. Well, I was wrong and so were they. Its now in the thousands http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/unofficial_windows98_se_service_pack.html Of course, there is the few who run into problems due to hardware or not following instructions. Okay, okay, enough taunting the haters I need two batch files to complete my mission and need some help. First batch file, I need it to extract a .CHM, then launch the .chm file full screen. After that, close the .chm when users click the X and launch the main .EXE file. Second batch file, I need this one to check for a file, and if the file exist, extract a different file from a .cab. Thanks to the thousands of users who have help me accomplish this in the past 2 years, I really do appreciate it. A big thanks to almawardi for helping me get Word 97 working.
  5. This is what I have for updates MSCONV97.DLL 2003.1100.8202.0 MSO97.DLL 8.0.0.8809 WINWORD.EXE 8.0.0.9315 WWINTL32.DLL 8.0.0.9315 Is there a new version for MSO7ENU.DLL?
  6. The only updates not included are, DirectX 9c Internet Explorer 6 NET Framework Windows Image Acquisition 1.1 (WIA) Windows Media Player 9 (WMP) Everything else is there. New update coming soon so wait Added 39 fonts Windows Server 2003 Added Microsoft L2TP/IPSec VPN Client 1.0 Added Microsoft Word 97 SR-2 http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/139093-create-standalone-word-97/ very fast, lightweight, LEGAL, and fully functional. Supports everything but .DOCX format. Renamed MSVCR70.DLL 7.0.9981.0 to MSVCRT.DLL 7.0.9981.0 (Replaces MSVCRT.DLL 7.0.2600.5701 Windows XP SP3) Updated GDIPLUS.DLL 5.2.6002.23084 Windows XP SP3 Updated Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) Client 5.2.3790.0 Windows Server 2003 Updated Time Zone August 2013 Updated USBCCGP.SYS 5.1.2600.6437 Windows XP SP3
  7. No I haven't atm. If I come across anything, I will post it for you.
  8. Thank you very much. I will test it over the weekend. My internet is down and I can't upload anything. I should be back online soon.
  9. I just finished playing with this. Adding the files below will add help and Spelling and Grammar check. Anything elese is overkill. MSGR_EN.LEX MSGREN32.DLL MSSP2_EN.LEX MSSP232.DLL OFTIP8.HLP WDMAIN8.HLP WDWPH8.HLP
  10. Thank you very much. I'm creating a installer for Win98 users which will be added to SP3. This is the smallest one can have word without all the bloat. I'm looking at the ms compatibility pack to see if I can get docx files to open.
  11. Thanks, I have done the same in SP3. You was right, it was a downgrade. MSVCR70.DLL 7.0.9981.0 has nine more functions than the MSVCRT.DLL 7.0.2600.5701 Windows XP SP3 version. Thanks again.
  12. Cost next to nothing. Alienware M17x R2 I have enough laptops until I die, hopefully its a long time from now. What you guys think it worth? I love when people throw out great things. One man trash is another man treasure or something to that nature Specs
  13. I'm using separate Hard Drives because they're rather old so if one of them were to fail, it would just take down one OS instead of all three. This is why I use extra hard drives for my desktop and caddies for my laptops. At least this way, you don't lose everything at once even if you do have backups.
  14. Is this accurate? If you look at Microsoft hotfixes that has some of the files above, it only updates files in windows\system\vmm32 and not windows\system. This means users will have different file versions in different folders.
  15. System Safety Monitor, Outpost Firewall 1.0, Host file and a router. No Anti-Virus software at all, its not needed.
  16. WinXP is going to be where Win9x and Win2000 is today, up and running like champs, and its nothing Microsoft can do about it
  17. If you want to use SATA mode, then it is recommended to use rloew patch. The Service Pack only covers IDE.
  18. This will add about 17.5 MB to the package. DX9C is definitely in. I'm not sure if we need the Managed DX files which will increase the size of the pack, but I have been using this MDGx method for years and everything is golden. I guess if users only need the core without the bloat, this is ideal and if not, one can download the full package which is about 60+ MB. P.S. I will also add MDGx unofficial Direct X updates which is only a few.
  19. Here is what I'm talking about. It has been discussed many times in the Win9x forums http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/49045-201-system-properties/
  20. The missing CPU info is not cause by UPDATE.SYS but SYSDM.CPL from all Win98SE updates except the original Win98 SE file. There is a screenshot in post 103 that displays the CPU info using the Windows ME version. When using the Win98 SE updated versions, it is missing.
