What you're saying is these instructions are incorrect/insufficient - http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=4

What you have - http://www.softperfect.com/products/ramdisk/ What I also found - http://www.superspeed.com/desktop/ramdisk.php Don't know what that means... but I reiterate that (probably) even a RAMdisk is paged (it IS in RAM, you know) or the Applications themselves COULD be facilitating paging via the API, in either case you'll be PAGE'd "somewhere". Heck, putting a VHD in a RAMdisk and using it instead (double-disks?) may do the same.Question - if this is a 64-bit OS, why don't you just use a VM and install XP-Mode (limit the RAM) and install the Games there, thus letting the OS/Game do it's thing and be done with it. That is unless all of those games won't run under XP?

FWIW, I believe the confusion is the NAME of the card. (Would have searched earlier, but was "out".) At the Ensoniq page (from WebArchiveDOTorg) it stated "64v" so your card is REALLY an ""Ensoniq Audiopci 64v" and I have a slightly better/newer version than you do from the Gateway website (I had obtained LONG ago). If you google "audiopci 64v"you'' find some WDM drivers that MAY also work. Note that the Mixer/MIDI "should" still work with it. Basically, I'm saying it's worth a shot to get WDM drivers installed instead (better) and should be that bad to "unstall" and reload. -SIDE NOTE- Don't bother right now. Have been looking and none look "quite right". Stick with what you have (VXD as opposed to WDM). At least it's working. Ennyhoo, THAT is what you REALLY have. edit - some info (Wiki) - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ensoniq_AudioPCI edit2 - AHA! Here's the one from Gateway that I have (instructions and how-to get) - http://support.gateway.com/s/MOTHERBD/Shared/7502533exein.shtml Noteworthy - IF the one you used allowed for a "Joystick" in the Devices, then BEFORE using it, take note the the INF file inside the Extracted Package has a set of "Only For Retail" that is used to install it (like the one you have) and must be uncommented (all lines that are obviously Instructions and NOT real Comments). The lines have a semi-colon and you have to move the cursor in front if that line a press "DEL" to remove the semi-colon, then save it before actually running the Install. Same package, just newer files/versions. (Yours is Win95, this one is Win95/Win98). HTH

#4 HarryTri mentioned two places to find it. I gave additional specifics. If Recovery Console (smaller) works (since you're on dialup), give it a shot. Unsure if it will allow you the "hidden" folders, but you have the names of the files and folders. As for the "system volume information" folder, you'll just have to use a "DIR /OD" to get the name of files/folder in order by date (may have to use /AH or /AS to get them to display).

Fixboot/Fixmbr has nothing to do with it. You're getting a "Safe Mode" selection screen. Interestingly, since you get that far, it begs the question - HOW if SYSTEM is "corrupt"? The registry keys to boot into Safe Mode are under the SafeBoot key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBootThere is NO particular "size" to it. It all depends on your Configuration. You initially said you did a "scandisk" - I assume you mean "chkdsk"? Indications MAY be that the "ckdsk" found errors in the location that "SYSTEM" is. (EVEN THOUGH you state there was no error.) HarryTri (and I see they posted JUST before me) isn't far off from what needs to be done. I would personally RENAME the "original" to "SYSTEM.XXX" (any one not currently existing). This SHOULD get you up-and-running. You can do the "rename+copy/paste" with a (e.g.) Live Linux CD in the existing computer without actually pulling it out. It would beat using a downloaded Recovery Console (not as limited and has a file browser). Best bet is to find the "SYSTEM" backup in the Restore/"snapshot" (as described above) folder. I believe it will be found in the "System Volume Information" folder within folder _restore{abunchofnumbers}\RPanumber\snapshot\_REGISTRY_MACHINE_SYSTEMalong with the other "special" registry files. Find the one with the HIGHEST date of whichever folders you find. This COULD apply to ANY of those files that MAY have caused you to "fail" See this - http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=36078.115;imode. HTH

Hmmmm.... (again ) Maybe it's the "games"? http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2568236/how-to-keep-windows-from-paging-block-of-memory ARMA - http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1251215 Similar via Google paging "dcs world" game Hints by the OP (part of Para#3) Trying too create a "super gaming computer" and optimizing it. Indications that the GPU has something to do with it as well. To reiterate what has been said, the "thrashing"/"lockup" more than likely has to do with the use of RAMDisk and placing the game(s) there and the effect of the PAGEing and its size in conjunction with the amount of RAM. (Was that a mouthful?) Also, not recollecting (or searching) exactly what your hardware rig is... (Disclaimer - Gaming is not my "bag" and optimization I attempt to do through hardware and services/processes. A Tweaker or Expert I am not. Simply well-versed and investigative.)

FWIW, this topic suggests using IMDISK - http://games.on.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=197327 So it could even be asked how did you create your RAMdisk? AFAIK, you should have a PageFile regardless of it "being needed".

Inside is another link - http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?s=&showtopic=26742&view=findpost&p=188809 The assertion is do NOT patch SETUPAPI.DLL but properly modify LAYOUT.INF. HTH disclaimer - AFAICR, I haven't done any of that.

Guide to Installing and Updating Windows 2000 Professional
submix8c replied to ppgrainbow's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
@themaritimeman - The "key" was the last parameter "I don't care WHAT you say, DO IT ALL OVER!". Glad to have helped. -
Need help/Gmail accounts show separately/Outlook 2013
submix8c replied to penguin32's topic in Microsoft Office
First point, unsure. Second point, also unsure BUT I have my OE/GMAIL (I think in GMAIL) delete "downloaded" so only new ones are in GMAIL during the next "run". Wait for someone more knowledgeable to give a more precise/correct answer (re - Outlook). The other (what I did) was just a suggestion for future reference. -
Computer seems to make a loud noise, Vista related
submix8c replied to ROTS's topic in Windows Vista
@MHz - yes, I know that (fairly hardware competent). the OP is not being clear (language barrier). And this is what they stated thus "implying" the Sound Card part "functions" (but maybe not?) and the Speakers were "unplugged" thus indicating where the "noise" was coming from.Again, unclear and insufficient information. Questions to OP - 1 - DOES your Normal External Speakers work (implying the Sound Drivers are installed and functional) 2 - If so, do they work CORRECTLY (you can play for example Music) 3 - If #1 and #2 are TRUE and the "noise" still occurs AND 3a - You unplug the Normal External Speakers AND 3b - You STILL have the "noise" then SOMETHING is "odd" Searching the Forum I see NO SPECS on ANY of your Computers! I ONLY found THIS DUDE! Are you SERIOUS? Give Specifications of the EXACT computer you have the problem with and CLARIFY or we CAN'T help you! -
? "Start->Connect To" is good for Dialup Connections (maybe a WiFi? I don't have that hardware). Are you referring to having a "Networks Connections" (or in Win7 "Manage Network Connections") Shortcut in your "not-Classic" Start Menu? In XP, all you have to do is right-click and "Create Shortcut" (wherever it may be created) and put it in the "Start Menu" folder (or subfolder) as you choose. This is AFTER install and not an "unattended" thing. (Note: I use "classic" and that would be in you Taskbar And Start Menu options.)
-
And also JUST NOTICED that you used the FIRST CodeBox I gave. I HOPE that your testing a CMD file that you double-click on because that's the way THAT one is "supposed" to work. You DID look at the SS64 link I gave, right? I had "inadvertantly" not made an "actual" (second) CodeBox with the "temp" stuff. Question (in reference to above post) - you're using an MSI-type Package? We have NO CLUE how you created this! MSI is VERY picky about pathnames! Can you provide the ISS script? There is ANOTHER topic a Member created about this stuff that he REFUSED to "reveal" any particulars.

To keep this Topic connected - Looking for your "solution"... edit - HOW did you get a "404"? Did you go to the Creative link I provided? I just downloaded the Wave "eapci2m.ecw" right-clicking the "download" and opening the link in a NewTab/Window, clicked "Agree" and there it was! Side note - downloaded the FIRST one as well as the "suggested" one (from TomsHardware link), unpacked it and it APPEARS to have all you need. edit2 - try these. FIRST do "safe mode" and Uninstall any "Sound Card" stuff that's related to "Creative", "Ensoniq", "SB", or "SoundBlaster" and LEAVE THE REST! http://www.stéen.se/share/pcprog/win/sound/index.html.1 HTH (note - found based on Ensoniq Website on WebArchive filenames)

"I heard it on the X" (ZZ Top) It was on the Morning TV news stating "brings back the Start Button" whatever that means.

OK, FWIW - http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/wul.html Several references to it on MSFN - google wul site:msfn.orgUsing this, you can list them, sort them by date Ascending (double-click "last modified), save to HTML, copy the Table into (e.g.) Word, remove the Rows in column "Uninstall Command" that are blank, delete ALL Columns except "Uninstall Command", Convert To Text, Rename to BAT or CMD, append "/quiet /norestart" to each line, and run it. Haven't "automated" it but the method works, at least when using -X- updates (only). It appears to list quite a bit but not sure if it's complete. And NOT sure if it lists anything NOT using "SPUNINST.EXE" (those with Blank "Uninstall"?). But thanks for a potential alternative. I'll have to check it out. It SHOULD allow for Uninstall Newest-To-Oldest just like the Add/Remove that "checks" for potential dependencies (the "warning" screen). I'm not going to search right now, but there's a thread providing some Member Contributed methods of getting them as well (see Google above, maybe?). Q - is that what prompted this thread? (just curious...)
-
?Have you tried using the following method? "%~dp0MYOB.EXE" / "%~dp0SETUP.ISS" That variable expands to Current Directory (short path names with Tilde). Double-click and BOOM. HOWEVER, you want to package it with 7-Zip so you'll PROBABLY want to use the User Temporary directory? Here's a pretty complete variables list - http://ss64.com/nt/syntax-variables.html Google this for "in-house" tips how to create a self-extracting installer with 7zip site:msfn.org Basically, have 7-Zip "dump" it into a UserTemp\RandomName and insert the Variables into the Script, run the Script. makedir "%temp%\%random%"There's your generated Temp folder name. HTH

Sorry, I don't get it. KEX is ongoing, isn't it? PLEASE don't start ANOTHER bash/nobash topic. It'll be "through" when NOBODY posts in the subforum EVAH, true enough (barring another "opinion" topic)?

According to this (and from my own recollection, as I DO have it "stored" somewhere) - http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/184370-48-ensoniq-audio-es1370 You SHOULD have downloaded "epw9xup.exe" and should ALSO need a "2mb Waveset for AudioPCI cards". (for MIDI support) IF that's what you downloaded, the it SHOULD have worked. That "package" should be a simple compressed Installer that can be decompressed with (eg) WinZip, WinRAR, or 7-Zip so WHAT is within that "package". Got a list? Scratch all that. The TomsHardware instructions are still valid but the links to the software are here - http://support.creative.com/downloads/?h=7 Pick the Win98 SE one and the files that are listed (according to the SIZE in the TomsHardware link) should be what you get. You MAY have picked the wrong one (the FIRST one)? Follow the instruction in the TomsHardware link and get JUST THOSE and try again.
-
...and ICYMI (followup) - You can change your own with the REG entry given (the "hack" you use). (read whole thread, see post #37.)
-
(Heh...) Never said they don't exist. DSL/MDS-XP in both cases. Still, the OP states they are "well on the way" without any explanations of hardware/procedures. For anyone finding this thread, hope it helps even without this particular specifics. (nice GIF... insert after second paragraph above) more here -

Computer seems to make a loud noise, Vista related
submix8c replied to ROTS's topic in Windows Vista
You are NOT being clear! First post And your last post At WHAT POINT "when the computer starts"? BEFORE Windows (during PC startup)? Have you checked for an overheated CPU? SOME BIOS will beep if it overheats -OR-may cause shutdown and/or restart. SOME Mobo Monitor Software can be set to "beep" at a certain temperature. It will ALWAYS (at least mine do) beep at least ONCE when you first turn it on (BEFORE windows). Clarify, please. It makes no sense. edit - "BEEP.SYS" is the "beeper" program. Related - http://forums.techguy.org/software-development/1096314-solved-internal-pc-speaker-beep.html http://www.onlinecomputertips.com/pc-hardware/speaker.html Also a program called "BEEP.EXE" (a "utility") floating around. Google netsky.d -
Well, the INITIAL question/topic was misleading (rambling and all). Question was REALLY about DOC for a Resume. That being said... OpenOffice (more than likely) = (DUH! And jaclaz to the rescue! )

So, is that supposed to be a CMD/BAT script? You have a link to AutoIT in your siggy - is that what you used? Your question is WAY to vague without supporting information.

Where can I unload this Windows 98 SE PC ?
submix8c replied to BecomingThin's topic in Windows 9x/ME
@Nomen - You are incorrect. Generally speaking, those are LINKS to "software" elsewhere. Created Scripts/Code is allowed (compiling/using them is in your hands). Instructions on "How To" as long as it's not a (e.g.) EULA (read the WHOLE set of rules) circumvention is allowed - example=HackedSETUPLDR. This is within the boundaries. Also see "Member Contributed Projects"... Otherwise, they are NOT attached, which DIRECTLY involves MSFN. Also IF it is a "crack" (regardless of where it may be) or non-Distributable code, you risk IMMEDIATE ban. SOME links will be to a country NOT required to adhere to "certain software" (depending on what it is). MSFN is located in the U.S. and MUST abide by U.S. law. Therefore, there WILL be "grey areas" and up to the Moderators/Supervisors to discuss and act accordingly. AGAIN, read ALL of the rules. You have guided the OP to a reasonable alternative to the Ban-Hammer thus changing the Topic to "Where can I unload this PC".
