Question - what is an "Asus Z8P77-V Pro"? Web search tells me that's erroneous and you REALLY mean "Asus P8Z77-V Pro"? https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P8Z77V_PRO/ http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/322612-30-asus-p8z77-intel-memory-advice According to this VERY reliable source - http://www.cpu-world.com/Sockets/Socket%201155%20%28LGA1155%29.html the MAXIMUM supported (i.e. "useable") is going to be 1600, so your question is a moot point. Maximum CPU for that MoBo - http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-ASUS/P8Z77-V_PRO.html DDR3 (Wiki-Wiki) - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR3_SDRAM Observe the "I/O Bus Clock" in the chart and compare to "Supported CPU's". The RAM will simply run at the Rated Bus Speed of 1600. A quick web search on DDR3 repeatedly yields 1600, so... one might "assume" the info you seem to have found is based upon NEWER mobo's/sockets (see above references). Save your money and buy the 1600's.

Google this for further info xp ram pagefile site:msfn.orgPossible to use RAM for pagefile if you wanted to. Within some of those the answer to "will RAM used instead if NoPage" = yes.

The answer is in the Explanation/Picture in first post - during Install. You have to FIRST have the Key and Activation Token Files from the FIRST time you Install and Activate. Get that stuff and create the Install DVD. The DVD is ONLY good for YOUR computer for a Reinstall, it does NOT 'auto-activate" OTHER computers. Look also at this -

More than ONE Computer? The "fix" you describe is confusing. 1 - Logon then immediate Logoff 2 - You replaced the two EXE files and NOW get "in" (#1 fixed) but NetLogon service not started Is the above correct? If so, it sounds very much like you got a trojan/virus that SPREAD among several computers across your network. Your WINLOGON.EXE could also be affected as well as many other System files if so. THIS is the "fix" you have done so far? http://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich-22087-xp-auto-log-off I'm also going to ask - can you get into the Security Center and is your "Automatic Updates"/"Windows Firewall" accessible? edit - Do a search on "wsaupdater". had a bad time w/ a friend's PC and had to resort to using a GOOD AntiVirus + Spybot + Malwarebytes to even get it (maybe) "clean". MANY more trojans were found beyond that - not trusting it even so, so I'm reloading it. Repair Installs do NOT get rid of the "random named" bad files. SFC only works in Normal mode, not Safe mode.

1 - Probably True. Crucial also makes good sticks. The RAM Bus speed on newer PC's doesn't necessarily have to match the CPU. It should be "native". Get the fastest now in case of CPU Upgrade. 2 - It's in the BIOS to allow reduced Fan spin. Choose wisely. 3 - Not there 4 - WiFi on laptops have a built-in internal antenna. Add-ins almost always have an antenna UNLESS you get a PCMCIA/Cardbus Add-In PCI Card and stick a WiFi card in it (old-school).

Sounds like you want an opinion of Win7 vs Win2k "how secure". Here - disabled antivirus, Spybot+MBAM, Router+Firewall, don't willy-nilly go to websites "suggested" by Google/Bing. We already have several threads on this-vs-that and "how secure" firewalls/AV's. Some folks use absolutely none on Win9x. IOW, you're only as secure as you make yourself regardless of the OS.

@buyerninety -Service Manual - System Setup I think that about covers it... BTW, it's nVidia-based NOT Intel-based. HALTS on no-keyboard - BOOM! Done! OVER! And it's OBVIOUS it will NOT mention "legacy USB" since that is ALL it has - NO PEE-ESS-TWO (duh). Please stop with your informing me/us of things already known by me/us.edit - and before you prattle about a "bad keyboard", I have TWO of them - BOTH are Original Dell and NO USB PORTS detect them. OK???

IE6 For Registration and Updates? Just get all of the Full Updates available (download them) and install after-the-fact. Skip Registration and AutoUpdates (if available). I have it (all) but don't use it, so try the "Multiple IE" trick to install, apply the Updates, and turn off the Updater functions as they are not worth squat except to "offer" you a newer version. Various "glitches" with ECDC5 - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811408 I would say "probably" there's a "glitch" with the IE version check since it's requirements were pre-IE7. I don't see ANY references to IE in the MSI Installer... Updates (ignore the "prefix" - that's the "order" of install) - (1)ecdc_v501_up.exe (2)ecdc5_01s.exe (3)Ecdc502c_up.exe (4)ECDC_v5.02d_up.exe (5)ecdc_v5.3.5.10_plt_enu.exe (6)driveup5.3.5v.exe (7)video_up.exe (8)photo_up.exe As I remember, I had to register on Roxio before it would allow selecting to get the Updates. A forum - http://forums.support.roxio.com/forum/27-easy-cd-creator-4-and-5/ And right here it specifically states anything GT IE6 "breaks" it - You might want to find an "alternative" to ECDC5.

Yep... it's a Bee-otch reading that stuff! "My eyes, my eyes!" E52's are - DOORSTOPS! The BIOS are SOLDERED (I said that). The BIOS files are NOT "BIOS files" but some kind of Dell Abortion (I said that). The Boot Blocks are - ge-fudged (I think that should have been understood). I would HAVE to get - #1 a GOOD (FULL) BIOS, #2 an EEPROM programmer, and #3 the PATIENCE to desolder AND put it back afterward. Let it go, buyerninety, you did NOT go through the he$$ (time is $) I did with this (NOT a "noob", dude)! Jaclaz kindly provided a link to my "other" rants. DO IT FROM DOS IF AT ALL POSSIBLE or at MINIMUM "Safe Mode" if no DOS-based BIOS updates! NO HIBERNATES, ETC! You WILL blow it up! It's all about ME-MO-RY-U-T-IL-I-ZA-TION! Don't utilize it - the Update NEEDS it to be STABLE! As for the OTHER responses by others, GOOD! It's "kind of" resolved (including finding the "glitch"). As for buyerninety's "assumption" that jaclaz was proposing JUST a CD-boot WOW just WOW!!! Perhaps they should look at Grub4DOS - never heard of a Bootable Flash Drive (I have a LiveXP one sitting right here)? WOW!!! YES, it would boot to a Floppy image that way as well! "Goodnight (9:30 am)" (must live somewhere near jaclaz) O/T - Look up the phrase "bandying words"... (WOW! )

@buyerninety - as nostaglic98 said... so please pay more attention as I was speaking BIOS and FYI they are both E521's. Lots of "bricks" due to several BIOS updates actually downloaded via the Dell Update Software - bricks galore (including the C521's). The SUCCESSFUL ones were apparently when run in Pure DOS since they "expand" into RAM to run (OMG!) Mflash (Mitek Flasher) and is therefore NON-standard Flashing and the BIOS embedded is ONLY partial and contains ONLY the portion applicable to the "update". Dell DOES do some "odd" things, e.g proprietary power supplies, towers, RAM, MoBo's (E521/C521 are mBTX), etc etc. Care to argue that? Thought not... Go ahead and get the BIOS for one and hex-edit it... It CANNOT be "stand-alone" installed and MUST be installed via that fubar-prone file. Argue all you want - it's true. Therefore the argument of ALWAYS (if possible) use a DOS-based BIOS flash! PERIOD! Direct experience. Not OT - Gigabyte has a facility of updating the BIOS via the (OMG) BIOS and a FlashStick or Floppy!!! Just stick the "stands by itself" BIOS file on it and tell the BIOS to Update. Seems that they see it as a "safer" (alternative) bet. Jaclaz' post #8 is not "magical" and is quite simple, so why the "trek down that route" comment? Also bear in mind that THIS PC has been loaded with Win98SE and the Unofficial SP, not to be confused with the OTHER PC... (MAY be a "glitch" in the detecting of the CPU for display in System Properties.)

Well, you COULD browse around Help and "Options" since many things are "additional" or "modifiable". Have you look at the "Tools->Options"? It really isn't THAT much different after setting it up properly... PLAY with it.

Oh, but I AM and will not succumb! (Data collection, etc...) Watch out for your "free" accounts, FB, etc... (BigBro/1984) All you have to do is "like" some celebrity or product and then the "program" kicks in and "recommends you like" something/someone else. Happens on Twitter, too - follow someone and then "recommendations" kick in. Programmatically watching me much? So where is THAT data stored, hmmm? Yep, wife hates my cursing the TV for various reasons, including but not limited to the "Great product! PSYCH!" commercials. "I'll take two orders of those side-effects-galore pills..." (Blue pill or Red, so undecided! Ahh, what the heck - BOTH!) Oh, and even a LITTLE paranoia is healthy - keeps you from walking down a dark alley at midnight. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dig_It_%28song%29

Just to slap another one on you... I HAVE used Uniflash on "older" Mobo's. And... Do you REALLY believe -ALL- BIOS updates are "complete"? (Thought not...) AGAIN! I have TWO "bricks" sitting beside me because of "partial" BIOS plus done-in-Windows! (Nya-nya!) SAD part is, unknown to me, they WOULD have run under (safely) DOS. There's an EXACT MODEL (used) for $150 within 1 mile of me, so figure it out!. As the saying goes, "buyerninety" beware!

Why was MSFN down yesterday and why is it still slow?

Agreed! What's the point of having Twitter or Facebook if it's not used? A/L we wouldn't wonder... -

submix8c replied to jdub's topic in Hard Drive and Removable Media
Ummm... you might want to also check the proximity of the SATA cabling to any power/IDE cables. It has bitten me with read errors and rendered one of the SMART values outside tolerance even though absolutely NOTHING else is wrong with the HDD. Just an FYI... (edit - ref. the "interference" reference above) -
Don't get me started! I don't want to be banned... Not OT... Just dig into the (real) "news" in the U.S. to see what's going on (NOT the "lamestream"). 'Nuff said!

No matter WHAT anybody else tells you, do not under ANY circumstances flash a BIOS from ANYTHING other than Pure Dos (if such a flash file is available). You MAY brick the PC. AFAIK, newer PC's do NOT have "interchangeable" BIOS chips - unless you want to solder a socket onto it.

+2 Had a baaaad feeling the last "cleanup" of spammers may have done some dirt. Google indicated the last post "alive" was about integrating (-X- had responded) english updates into brazilian(?) source... xper be da man!!!! edit - OWWWW! Any other type files or is it ALL filetypes (extensions)? Your FileType associations are hosed...

I don't know about that particular Motherboard, but it seems odd that Win95 isn't supported since NT4 is.

OK... FWIW, there IS a method of applying the "current" updates (see the "How To Integrate BasicUpdates+IE8+WMP11" link I gave) without using Windows Updates and it IS a bit faster (IMHO) getting them downloaded (uses WGET program) PLUS you have the extra advantage of having the Updates (the -X- Website link give) available at any time for "future" reinstalls FROM THE ORIGINAL XP-SP3 CD. A couple of simple CMD scripts after the Updates are downloaded. If you want the method, just ask. I guess I could "alter" the "How To" to add that method, but the topic IS, after all, about Integrating. I am "assuming" you mean this "updater"? http://www.wsusoffline.net/ Never used it and it APPEARS to include "additional beyond Basic" software/updates. I believe (AFAICT) it "probably" gets Updates similarly to "AutoPatcher" and jcarle's "Windows Updates Downloader" but does the Installs as well similarly to Kelsenellenelvian's "Windows Post Install Wizard". In the meanwhile, go with what you have "If it makes you happy..."

Weeelllll, nLite use for what jaclaz said is "in the strictest sense" true, but it ALSO slipstreams (when properly done) Updates and so-called Add-Ons (good ones) quite nicely. See this (re -X- website updates) - Also some images - http://xdot.tk/nliteimages.html As far as Unattended, you don't have to use the Unattended section (see above links) and I don't recommend it for "newbies" nor "tweaking"/"removing" stuff. Keep it "basic" - any Add-Ons (again) are a different subject to given links and some background is stated in one. There are THREE SATA Driver topics on MSFN (Intel, AMD, and nVidia AFAICR) that will assist IF you need to use strictly AHCI (SATA) Mode, but AGAIN, they are NOT necessary for PATA (IDE) Mode. You might want to in any case get the CORRECT Drivers (ALL of them) for your Motherboard and Hardware (Add-in Cards) for slipstreaming (or at least after install). Not "rocket science" but not "easy" for a "newbie" (need SOME knowledge). IOW, "overkill without knowledge of the weapon" will definitely cause a damaged left big toe. Otherwise, jaclaz provided an accurate assessment.

Not adhering to your numbered bullets - 1 - You didn't specify Make/Model of the "new" PC - critical need-to-know 2 - If an OEM (say, Dell, HP) PC with Pre-Installed Win7, you would best be served with a Forensic Backup of the HDD in case you ever want to sell it (back to "stock") 3 - If you alter/remove items using nLite -AND- use ANY updates (regardless of source) it will be "mixed" 4 - Add/Remove will only work on #3 if do NOT remove said component as it will be GONE! 5 - You could also instead of Xable use this - http://xdot.tk/updates.html 6 - If you do NOT remove Components, it will STILL be "altered" but said Updates inserted will be slipstreamed 7 - SATA HDD is no problem if in the BIOS you set PATA/IDE Mode, otherwise you will need to Integrate ("slip") the CORRECT SATA drivers CORRECTLY. 8 - You would best be served with a Forensic Backup (worth repeating) 9 - If you need a PARTICULAR partitioning scheme, you'll need to do that during Install. OEM's use WinPE and Sysprep for full automation (different subject entirely) Read a little here as well - http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/ edit - and read the Sticky topics in nLite subforum as well
