Chiming in... ever heard of a Commodore? Silly people bought them to play games on, never realizing they were actually computers. The best "gaming consoles" (AFAIK), are custom-built "real PC's" - software is (apparently) available to "emulate" the older CD's/ROM's or even "rip". A poll such as this is rather limited. (see poll question)

http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K6-III/index.html Have you tried clocking at 5.5x (the lower)? Hmmm. according to the above, you might have a K6-IIIE+ (different FSB) @4x100. And you didn't mention whether the K6-III was 66 or 100 FSB. Bus speed matters. IMHO it's better to go a higher FSB than a higher multiplier (which depends on the CPU and the MoBo abilities). IOW, choosing a "slower" CPU that uses a higher FSB MIGHT run faster - or even an "equivalent" speed (as you might have).

Menu Selector for DOS based programs on same CD?

jaclaz - submix8c Two peas in separate and unique pods. Don't be so offended. It's unintended... Grin at the grumpy and carry on. -
For fun, you could TRY to create a second account and try again using it. Infections (generally) have one of two ways to "run/runonce" - the "HKLM" branch (in which case you have some serious scrubbing on your hands) and/or "HKCU" (in which case just the OLD user-id is biiten). Another is "services" (gonked up in HKLM) which is also a bear to get rid of. Surprising that it's asking for a FONT, of all things. "Run" or "Save"? Nuh-uh! Never heard of a "needed" Font reacting like that. You COULD try installing and running CCleaner in case it's still in the "cache" and nowhere else. BTW, you should also check for some of those silly "toolbars" that you may have inadvertently installed - some are NOT good and open the door up further. Chances are, that that eMail could have potentially placed some "goodies" into the Internet Cache (hence trying CCleaner). That's why I avoid going via a Browser into my eMail - I use the Outlook Express (yuk - still dangerous) and let it download my email. BTW, a handful of new variations of trojans are now going undetected by anti-malware programs, even the "big boys"... In one case, I managed to find and eliminate it. In the other case I had to back up all of the User Data and do a Restore (an OEM-style "Recovery"). Not fun as it took several days for first, and several with "I give up" on the second.

Not sure if that was the right link (several provide that info) but there was a notation about "randomly" (paraphrased) for those entries and the fact that "someone" unloaded (paraphrased) them, changed the order to suit in the REG file, deleted the REG entries, then reloaded. I had surmised that the execution would be based upon FIFO, so I have to agree with prior members' assessments of said items.

Any way to configure Windows Update?
submix8c replied to Octopuss's topic in Unattended Windows 7/Server 2008R2
This is the "standard" way lacking what you want. The article given by Trip states: and does NOT say Win7, but DOES state Vista. It's worth a shot...Does this help? (no Win7 installed ATM, so can't check any of it.) -
Useful info? edit - found via google search: "execution order" "Windows\CurrentVersion\Run"
-
More info. "Fixes" instead...

Does this help? Also, maybe Skype needs VC++ 2008?

Adobe Flash Add-on Creator - NOT NEEDED. USE NEW NLITE.

Misnomer? "Redistributable Agreement" - links given in eMail saying "Do not provide links publicly" (or some such)... "licensing". No "Toolbar" code that "normal" downloads foist on the "general public". Mine=Yours - I also get the Firefox one. Your posts keep me "up to date" - thanks. -
Tell ya what (since you're still waiting...) For any given Service, you can Right-Click, select "Properties", then click "Dependencies"... are ANY of the services listed NOT exist? edit - and your Topic Title still stinks - please fix it (read MSFN Rules - link at top)...

Wiki AbandonwareVista Lifecycle Support Extended=2017 (and scroll to "Service Pack 2") EULA Nope... try again... or just figure it out yourself. Your request is not valid and we are forbidden.

http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?app=forums&module=extras§ion=boardrules Aside from the ISO, please read rules 7a, 7b, and 7d, Sir Lord Wolf. If you should reread the thread, you'll see your reactions to a number of senior members. As for the ISO, AFAIK only MSDN/Technet (and SEL/VAR, whatever) had those available. It just won't happen unless it's illegal so don't even bother. As stated repeatedly (AND in the PM's you HAD to bring up in this thread ), DROP it and use the supplied info I gave to "roll your own" as SPECIFICALLY stated in Post #17. I'm absolutely POSITIVE of the "list"/key-info so trust it or not - your choice. (Some people just don't appreciate honest criticism/assistance.) On a side note, you (I "assume" it's you) DID provide a couple of Unattended info's. Thanks. (See how easy that is?)

Uhhh, maybe attaching proprietary Vista modules? MSFN Rules link at top of this topic.

I believe I/we elaborated quite well.

Was that the complete RoboCopy command you used? AFAICT (having "backed up" then "restored" a User set of files/folders, specifically, Music, Pictures, Photos, Videos folders "interactively" by giving responses) using "Copy" instead, it appears that the DESKTOP.INI comes into play and the correct one(s) were overlaid. I had observed this and "kept" the larger of the two (AFAIKR) which worked... something I BELIEVE to do with Junctions... HTH

Are you installing with an Administrator account or a Limited account? Safe Mode won't allow starting any services. P.S. - read the Forum Rules (link at top). The Topic words you used needs improvement.

(sigh... beating a dead horse...) Using the above info (the "list"), you may 1 - extract/copy the Pro FPP w/SP3 CD contents to a folder 2 - copy the *.CH_ files (listed above) of the MSI disk, overlaying the FPP ones 3 - change the SETUPP.INI line with "PID=" to read xxxxxOEM (leave the "x" part alone) 4 - extract the CD BOOT (internal on the CD) to "somewhere" 5 - using burning software of choice burn a new Bootable CD (no need for Joliet, but go ahead if you want) VOILA! XP Pro w/SP3 "Generic". (p.s. the EULA will wrongly indicate FPP, but you don't care, do you? and the *.CH_ are basically EMPTY, telling you to "contact the vendor"...) As I said (and now repeating), before you got HUFFY, a Generic OEM will NOT Pre-activate and (AFAIK) WILL work with OEM COA keys. The keys you get with the "purchased mom-and-pop) WITH a Generic OEM Disk (these are usually "system builder kits" - 2 CD's) and you get ONE Key UNLESS you purchase MORE and are UNIQUE (NOT used over-and-over) as you seemed to misunderstand. The second CD is the OEM Preinstall Kit CD freely available from MS as an ISO. The above 5 steps will give you your "Mom-and-Pop" CD that you "lost" but have a Key for. You will NOT get support from the Vendor (MSI - but you don't care). This info is FREELY AVAILABLE on the WWW. A NON-Generic OEM is the type (like your MSI Disk, and TOTALLY irrelevant to your topic) that has the four SPECIFIC files (see list) that the Vendor (NOT Mom-and-Pop) use to allow for Auto-Activation using the INTERNAL key (not the COA key), thus you STILL have to have that key (internal) to pre-activate. The COA KEY will/should work with the (MSI) CD/DVD, but WILL require activation - using it on ANOTHER PC is illegal - the CD goes with the COA/Hardware. They ALSO (usually) provide Drivers integrated into the CD (and sometimes other "stuff). As you describe it, it is a RESTORE CD and more than likely does NOT "rebuild the whole hard drive" (but is cram-packed with other "stuff). You describe two DVD's - this is what I have for my Dell - NOT a "Recovery Set" (usually an IMAGE of the OS Partition built from the Recovery Partition and spanning more than 2 DVD's, usually 4 or 5) but an INSTALL/Reinstall Disk. DO NOT confuse the two. It would be POSSIBLE that you have a "slimmed down" Recovery set, but doubtful. I DO, however, have a set of Compaq Recover Disks that literally rebuild the HDD, the INTERNAL key being on the first CD (boots kicks off the Recovery) and the OEM-OS-CD as the second (also bootable but no embedded key). "Standard" CD will usually have the SAME FOLDERS as the Restore CD (may have a couple extras). Visually compare the Pro-FPP to the MSI-Home-OEM contents and see if that's true. Heck, you could list the FOLDER NAMES here and that would probably tell the tale. Jeez, I thought the post was VERY clear and NOT filled with "implications" (e.g. your point#1 "generic" response). I NEVER accused you of "pirating keys", did I? Did you have to go into a diatribe? side note - I usually use CAPS instead of wasting keystrokes/mousestrokes to bold or italic specific points. Problem? side note#2 - I suggest you image the WHOLE HDD or use a different one before you "wipe" the HDD in case you want to put it back to Factory for possible sale. Even further, using a second HDD, try the DVD's you have to see if they indeed "restore to factory". SOME Recovery Disks won't "restore" to even a different HDD (the HDD is pee'd on internally to prevent pirating - only an EXACT MAKE/MODEL will work). Done! (been there, done that, love fixing/reloading friends/relatives "virus-ridden" PC's - NOT!) edit - re your MSI DVD - this is my Dell one (not hologrammed).

Don't know if this will help - find Microsoft's UPHCLEAN "User Profile Hive Cleanup". Killing "shutdown" isn't too wise - that's what shuts you down. "..problems with windows shutting down"/hangs indicates that something is not being "stopped". Try the above "fix" to see if it helps at all.
-
Are you referring to "Control Panel->Power Options->Advanced"? That's where the setting are, and depends on (AFAIK) the BIOS Settings. Other settings are in the "Power Options" as well. AFAIK, no "program" installation will cause the "problem" you indicate. The Drivers you mention also have nothing to do with it. It's all in the OS and the BIOS. Suggest you look into those items.

??? What is the SCSI Controller? Just any "driver" won't work.

If you have ANY of the "direct links" try changing the LNG-portion (probably already tried that?)... edit - keep an eye on prev. link - will add anything useful/or-not above
