  1. 4.10.2222 - Windows 98 Second Edition (Win98SE) How odd! That EXE file is specifically for Windows 98 Second Edition. Do you have any "unofficial" updates installed (eg 98SE2ME) that would make it "think" that it's not 98SE? It's an Update for the USB Bus, AFAICT. @loblo - do you mean (e.g.) "A404"? Here is apparently a v4.04 (dated 2008) that include all of the OS WDM Drivers - ftp://ftp.tsu.ge/drivers/Audio/WDM_A404.exe(18mb file) BTW, the Driver you have is for a VERY specific model. The one I give is for many - I have an even older version on my current PC (A3.90)
  2. 1- Offline After OS Installed - the BAT/CMD method (above) 2 - OEM Integrated Install - the $OEM$ folder (note that the WINNT.SIF needs that Section to copy the OEM folder) 3 - Non-OEM/OEM Integrated Install - QCHAIN method 4 - Full Integration Method - nLite (or manually) Been using #2 to preserve Original Install (for OEM Refurbishing) - "quick" install from HDD using the Section, remove the Section for the CD (must install Fixes/Drivers manually double-click BAT/CMD). $OEM$ inside I386 for HDD, next to it for CD (so a "Repair Re-Install" will work).
  3. Nonetheless, thank you Finder! [/hijack] Interesting thread...
  4. ...and if so, why don't you send a polite email and asking them where they are? "Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego"? Don't know... not a member here.
  5. I stand corrected - but not the one the OP has.Back to the "problem" .... Exactly WHAT is your objective and WHICH tools/software do you intend to use and exactly HOW do you intend to accomplish this and WHY are you having problems accomplishing said objective? In addition, what do you MEAN by Do you mean FROM it or ONTO it (select one)? This is XEN, right? Specifically this, right? Is it your intent to install XEN? Not sure how much help you'll get on that software. I certainly can't help.PLEASE be SPECIFIC and COMPLETE and ORDERLY! I'm not a very good dentist... ...and AGAIN, what is WRONG with using VMware? AFAICT, you create a VM HDD in QEMU, then use in in VMware Player. Haven't tried it yet.
  6. 1 - Yes2 - No, unless you want to get "fancy" (adding "extra stuff") Images Reference Guide
  7. Where did you obtain the IE6? Which utilities? After installing WUPG?OK, just downloaded and inspected WUPG98 (from Readme) - Afraid I don't see any of above installed within the Package - only the Updates. Looks like you have to install the above BEFORE WUPG or else you might overlay some files.I don't see how WUPG could mess up graphics. I see no drivers in it. Also (from SESP3.3 ReadMe) Appears that all of the "*" items YOU must get and install BEFORE SESP3.3 (just like WUPG).I think that you're misunderstanding what needs to be installed FIRST. Have you tried AutoPatcher yet (large download)? It includes the following: Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1 + Fixes Windows Media Player 9.0 + Fixes DirectX 9.0c + Fixes OR just go to here and get all of your "missing" prerequisites THEN install one of the two above. Bear in mind the THIRD option (Autopatcher) doesn't include some/many of the "fixes" found later that MAY be included in WUPG and definitely doesn't include many in 98SESP3.3... To answer your question about "mixing" the packages - DON'T DO IT! They are NOT compatible.
  8. Post#16 - the "twist" I referred to. More info on IBM 5150 Floppy cabling (ref. jaclaz' Shugart note). 4116 < 4164 I no longer own it - GAVE it away - 2-20mb HDD's, 2-5-1/4 Floppy , Sound, (etc etc). I assure you, I know what I'm talking about, including the 3-1/2 inch DSn Switch/Jumper "oddity" on older ones (works same way as IBM Floppies - I tried one of them on the 5150). Useful to problem at hand? Neither is your information.
  9. Have you thought of DIRECT SHARING via LAN instead of "Shared Folders"?And I REPEAT! You CANNOT access that Video Card with Win98... PCIe is NOT PCI!!!! NO DRIVERS FOR WIN98! And... I am BETTING that the "Sound Card" is an HD-Audio! GOOD LICK with Drivers for that! NO WAY IN WIN98!!!! Dude - WON'T HAPPEN! Get another PC (with associated Hardware) that SUITS Win98 to do the Capture/Edits. OR GET DIFFERENT SOFTWARE that runs on XP/Vista/Seven. Window 98 supports ISA, PCI, or AGP Video or Sound, and NOT PCI-e (of ANY kind, Sound OR Video, or ANY OTHER PCI-e Card) or HD-Audio (of ANY kind - PERIOD). No magicians to fix that - NO WAY! Live with it! Or do you actually Have Win98 Installed on THAT PC (Not in a VM) and it actually WORKS???
  10. nVidia Geforce 210 - Isn't that PCI-e? If so, you will not get drivers for Win98 for it. Stick to a Virtual Machine.
  11. BWAHAHAHAHA!!!!! I had an ORIGINAL (unmodified) 5150 - NO TWIST! Just like the HDD's (that had an "odd" cabling - EXTRA WIRES). Look up MFM and RLL (and look up the old Floppies) and get more info.
  12. ? I thought that the additional Drivers Folder (and all Files) would have to follow 8.3 naming conventions? newdrivers = 10-characters Or am I mistaken?
  13. PowerISO Features I don't use that one but I'd venture to say that you can create an ISO Image File from the CD, Remove the Existing Boot.img (or whatever the name), the re-add the REPLACEMENT one. 1 - Extract the IMG from ISO using 7-Zip to somewhere 2 - Open the IMG (saved somewhere) and extract files to modify (AUTOEXEC.BAT) 3 - Edit/Modify the file (AUTOEXEC.BAT) 4 - Download Trial Version of WinImage and install 4a - Rename boot.img to boot.ima and Open with WinImage 4b - Insert the "replacement" File (Autoexec.bat) 4c - Save 4* - note there's also a freeware Virtual Floppy that will Mount the Image, allowing direct replace - sadly, it only works on NT-type 32-bit (google "Virtual Floppy Drive 2.1") OR "IMDisk "(same OS') 4A - OR just use a REAL Floppy 4A1 - Format the Floppy under 98SE 4A2 - Copy ALL files from Extracted IMG, then Overwrite the File (Autoexec.BAT) 5 - Use PowerISO to replace the Boot Image 5* - Note - there HAS to be a place to do that! Read the Documentation
  14. Black Screen with Cursor BIOS->HDD -- MBR Code - Look for Active Partition and Boot to it. If no code, no boot. HDD MBR Code->Partition -- BPB code - Look for NTLDR and execute it NTLDR->BOOT,INI -- The corresponding Selection is loaded. Did you by chance "clone" (by copying) to a non-MBR'd HDD? Do you still have the USB HDD plugged in? Exactly WHO are you responding to? Me or tomasz86?You're (again) providing insufficient information. Explain EXACTLY (Step-by-Step) how you did this, resulting in the "black screen".
  15. GACK!!!! (as in BARF!) Someone royally screwed it up! Potentially that Partition can be put back to its original OEM state (have to investigate that) as well as the "special" MBR code. It all depends on what (with jaclaz' help) can be "found" on the First Partition (I believe this is the usual place for the Factory WIM/SWM Image). What should have been the Vista (not Win7 x86/x64 whatever/whichever). -see BOOTMGR comment above- Those Pictures seem to be the important factor as well - recovering (if possible) the Second Partition (the actual Running OS) now becomes rather (somewhat) important. -post made as a follow-up based on my knowledge of Vista/Win7 OEM Install- edit - Hmmm - may not be a "special" MBR - maybe just std. Vista - the remainder would be via F8 into the Recovery (Partition#1). edit2 - restore to factory (if Part#1 "fixed") by setting it to Active? edit3 - info making me unsure of complete restore (should be 3 partitions?) edit4 - MBR "special" code probably same as the one on HP XP-install (maybe) so could help with that (later) to get F11 back. edit5 - HP Restore MSFN HP MBR MSFN HP MBR#2 "What else does the box say, Steve?"
  16. BWAHAH! And a New Topic for each... Are you "fixing" a problem you've been having? Or do you think this is a Blog Website?
  17. As already said, use XP as the HOST and Win98 as the GUEST in a VM. Win98SE does NOT support Dual Core CPU's, whereas XP does. I reviewed ALL of your posts and NOT ONCE have you described your hardware, so I find it hard to believe that your "modern grafix card" OR your soundcard (I DID find that in your posts) won't "work" under XP. VMware has support for USB so running 98SE on it should do quite nicely... Want a little help? Give your FULL Hardware Specs and what "apps" you need to run... You've given nearly no information thus far.
  18. Not necessarily OT... If (I say, IF!) you can get the Pictures backed off of the C-Drive and (I say, AND!) the Recovery Partition is kept intact and accessible, then (and ONLY THEN!) I may be able to help you with getting the HP MBR "special" code (I believe it has some) back so you can do a Factory Restore. I say this because you have apparently/probably wiped it with your fiddling. Not hijacking, jaclaz, just offering some post-recovery assistance... (HP Laptop WinVista Home Prem x64)
  19. How odd! I've never tried burning a CD-ISO to a DVD, so I won't dispute it (light research reveals same). HOWEVER, opening an nLite ISO Image with IsoBuster shows that it's a CD, whereas a Nero DVD ISO Image with IsoBuster shows that it's a DVD. I guess my "assumption" was based on that and further "assume" that the detection is based upon Content Size. My error... Side notes - Depending on the Burner that has the functionality, one can Set Book Type for DVD+R to DVD-ROM - DVD-R doesn't have that ability regardless of the Burner. The Win2k3 Resource Kit has both "cdburn.exe" and "dvdburn.exe" programs, meaning (apparently) "depends on the media you are burning an ISO to" (but "content size will still matter").
  20. Appears to be a Restore DVD - may not work. The I386 is a "special built" Folder for booting into the Restore Facility. The I386DIST may be the correct one but may have some files missing and/or modified. nLite does not create DVD images - it creates CD images. You can't burn a CD Image to a DVD. IF you have the eMachine (where did you get this Restore DVD from?) then look for an I386 folder in the C-Drive - that may be a better starting point (may need a couple of files located elsewhere on the HDD or may need "created").
  21. Take a look at this. There's a setting for "Drive 0 / Drive 1" (14 pins). The Original A-Drive should be on the End of the cable, and the Added B-Drive should be the next one down on a TWISTED cable (AFTER the Twist). Check that the jumpers MATCH between the Original A-Drive and the B-Drive (MAKE IT THE SAME AS A-DRIVE!) - This is USUALLY the method for "twisted" cable. If it still doesn't work (after that), try changing the SINGLE JUMPER (as noted in the PDF). IMPORTANT - ensure that the BIOS is set that BOTH are 3-1/2 1.44! Please note that APPARENTLY the Drives can be set to (via the Jumpers) DIFFERENT FLOPPY SIZES! Note - the PDF may be incorrect - see this (short topic). Also, I've seen that the 300 is a 720kb vs the 340 being 1.44 (here). Is this true? (Apparently used with Commodore and Amiga.) Hmmm... Only Dual Density Mode (Reference this GIF)? Also found this Pic Translation Here is another reference stating bot 720 (DD) and 1.44 (HD) versions.edit - as for the Cable "twist" - the "twist" is actually on the end. You have an "oddball" (i have or at least had several of those - TEAC and SONY). My bet is the 720-vs-1.44, the Cable, and/or the Jumpers. Also note that the cable may be plugged into the device upside-down (in which case you'll get a "solid light" usually). Side note - Old 5-1/4 in ancient IBM's (5150's) didn't have the "twist" in the cable and you had to change the ID as DS0 or DS1.
  22. As long as the ORIGINAL HDD is used in ANOTHER computer -OR- The Contents OFFLINE are copied to ANOTHER HDD on the FIRST PARTITION! And... you may STILL get the x7B BSOD!!! (see below) The OP is/was "copying" (not Cloning) a "C-Drive" Win2k to a "D-Drive" and trying to BOOT to it (by modding the "C-drive" BOOT.INI..)! Worse, they are NOT using the HIVE'S that it RUNS with! IT WILL NOT WORK!!!! Trust me!!!! @Agorima - you are doing this ALL WRONG!!!! You MUST get the OLD (from OLD computer) Win2000 C-Drive copied INTACT (and COMPLETE) from it TO the D-Drive of your "Test Computer", then use something like PTEDIT32 to SWITCH Boot Indicator of Partition-1 (C-Drive) from "x80" to "x00" and of Partition-2 (D-Drive) from "x00" to "x80" THEN change the Parition Type of Partition-1 (C-Drive) to the SAME TYPE except HIDDEN! This will allow the "Copied" to THINK it's the C-Drive (it won't "see" the REAL C-Drive). HAVE PTEDIT32 on BOTH HDD'S - OR get the DOS version (PTEDIT) and put it on a MINIMAL BOOTABLE DOS FLOPPY and flip-flop from DOS. The PTEDIT programs are found here. Good Glory, guys, I've been through this "moving an OS to a different HDD/Partition" many times. Win9x will ALWAYS believe (no matter WHAT Partition) it's on a C-Drive as long as that partition is the Active one ("x80"). NO NT-type OS can be "moved" to a DIFFERENT Partition and expect it to Boot like it used to. AND the x7B "bomb" is almost ALWAYS because of ChipSets and/or Drivers (maybe the HAL? Can't remember...). The ONLY way to "beat" it CLEANLY is to "Reinstall/Upgrade" over top of the old one (to retain other Software and Settings)!
  23. Mmmm. better check "System Information" -> "Shared Resources" (or anything else suspicious). The OS may be overriding what you set in the BIOS ("PnP OS Installed").
  24. Will ConeZilla change the Drive Letter Designations in the Registry? MAYBE using PTEDIT32 to change the Active Partitions back and forth MIGHT allow it, providing EACH has the BOOT.INI pointing at the correct partition. Even Ghost can't do that (only changes BOOT.INI for the cloned).
  25. Better check the BIOS for IRQ conflicts! Bad JuJu to share Video and NIC IRQ's! See if you can swap them around so that the NIC maybe uses the same IRQ as USB - chances of using USB same time as NIC is slimmer than Vid!
