  1. Some good ones have been popping up while I wasn't looking. My abbreviated personal ad: Male Seeks Female Nudist
  2. Straight out of the book... [Unattended] TargetPath = <target_path> From ref.chm:
  3. Like this example... SET %PP%=%systemdrive%\Install\ ...placed as the third line of your RunOnceEx. Also, if you plan to enable autologon in your SIF, expect to halt at Mini-Setup anyway. May want to set it to 'No', and specify default user using methods in Unattended Guide. There's also a redundant OemSkipWelcome entry. I doubt it will do any harm, but extra characters in line 21 of your RunOnceEx might. Save yourself another two hours, and look 'em both over good. Finally, if you manage to test drivers in VM, please let the rest of us know how you did it
  4. How long have you run the machine with XP? Is this your initial upgrade from 9x OS? Have you kept original hardware during the transition? Perhaps you should adding drivers (processor or hal), or checking their sequence of installation.
  5. *sigh* Poor Bill...currently in the 'where are they now' category. Must have been utterly humiliating. I can imagine him shuffling home to drown his sorrows in a hot tub full of Benjamins, sullen over Neil's (or whoever) sudden catapult to long-lasting fame at his expense. Verdict: guilty as charged! ...and if he had tried that today, his cowardly act of terrorism would have gotten him an immediate rendition to a Banana-Cream Republic for some closed door justice.
  6. Try setting AutoLogon to "No", and using one of these methods to designate the user you wish to log on. http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/view/web/27/ FullUnattend mode will halt at the MiniSetup screen, and prompt you for a username. If you wish to bypass this, try DefaultHide instead.
  7. @Jeremy Windows supports special characters (I forget which ones) for user accounts. I make use of them for my accounts--separate password for BIOS, user, email, security settings for programs. Everything gets its own password, and the wetware stores the only record.
  8. @qpshelp This one addresses an issue separate from the Windows Metafile vulnerability (described in KB912919). You should have both installed--first reverting your system back to its previous state, if you had used any of the unofficial patches.
  9. @suryad If you're already comfortable with present style of QWERTY typing, you'll probably find the margin of improvement under Dvorak distant and trivial. A few months of Dvorak brought me nearly to my old maximum speed. Then I began to fall back to occasional QWERTY use, and both suffered. At this rate, I imagine I'll be able to switch freely between the two with no great loss. Not that there aren't other reasons to justify Dvorak, beyond pure performance. It reduces strain, not only by shortening the average distance between keystrokes, but by alternating them more often between each hand. I suspect it's a good layout to adopt to limit repetitive stress. Anyway, that's how I console myself over sudden transformation to all-thumbs typing.
  10. Better yet, does anybody know why these redundant folders are created in the first place, and the best way to prevent them? It's kind of annoying to have to perform this cleanup detail after each Windows installation.

    Hi

Quite a few of us started out this way, I believe. Just makes me wonder how large a crowd the silent majority is. Lurkers may be the Dark Matter of the MSFN universe. Thanks for showing up for roll call eXSBass, and welcome to the forums.
  12. Both thumbs, though predominately the right. I'm right handed. I very seldom use toes to key the spacebar.
  13. I haven't tried installing either version of the player myself...have you tried the switches listed in the applications forum? http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=12657 The switch for the RealOneGOLDv2 suggests Installshield setup, while RealAlternative probably uses an Inno package. My guess is you aren't installing this one--I doubt RealAlternative interrupts the silent process to ask for file associations. Check the Unattended Windows guide for a more complete set of switches, if either of these apply. RealPlayer10 (listed here: http://www.msfn.org/board/lofiversion/index.php/t20502.html) uses Installshield 2003. Directions are in the post. Hopefully, this is your case, as the settings you enter can be recorded in a .iss file and recalled during setup.
  14. I haven't used the ProvideDefault mode. It seems like a completely attended setup, though, with the advantage to the user being the option to prefill the fields with your suggested setttings. Default/Hide is a silent process, except for required fields that are left unfilled (though any mode will stop at at unfilled/erroneous entry). Your call as to the final product you wish to provide.
  15. Gotta admit, the new Unattended Windows guide, as well as an updated version of nLite, was a nice Christmas bonus. It took me even longer to work the bugs out of my first (intentional) silent installation, made less embarassing by self reliance on searchable answers. Congratulations on your successful attempt, Sangi, and welcome to the MSFN forums.
  16. Hear, hear! Put me in that category. I have fewer DVDs than I have posts in this forum (the gap is widening as we speak).
  17. Can't spare the monkeys...we got 'em working on a screenplay of Hamlet at the moment.
  18. Takeshi and RogueSpear offered the more elegant solutions here: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=64641 ...whereas mine offers easier UI for novice users like me to find and change settings. If you go this route, you should be able to find a language version to suit you. Hope this reply addresses your question.
  19. I'm considering use of Internet Explorer Administration Kit for my next UA install. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechn...ak/default.mspx Wizard interface accepts settings for IE and Outlook Express and generates an .ins file which can be imported in setupmgr unattended setup. You'll find options to predefine any setting you need here. Wish I could provide more detailed advice, but I have yet to try it myself. Its help reference, and ref.chm should keep you from getting lost, though.
  20. Looks like I took the bait, Jonathan. I keep falling for the same old tricks. Well, I'm off to collect my paycheck, where I expect to be disappointed once again by the number of zeros.
  21. I think I'll have to borrow a line from Han Solo here: "Terrific, kid! Don't get cocky!" You'll fit right in...Welcome to MSFN. Help yourself to anything on the menu.
  22. No need for apologies, Wolf. You're in the General forum, where spamming is something that's done elsewhere, and you really have to work at straying off topic.
  23. Being polled gets easier over time. I doubt it...BG has a corporation to take care of that stuff. Probably hasn't emptied his own recycle bin in years.
  24. Unattended install? Sounds like an awful lot of work for nothing. Lifting weights? They're just going to end up where they started...seems pointless. Besides, those things are heavy. And (somebody has to say this) I can think of simpler ways to give the bone to someone special.
  25. You know, for a moment I chalked up our topic title to be a typo...until I remembered what married life was like. Good times.
