It is good to be working with humans once again... My name is Dave (no relation to Bowman).

pjimbo has entered the building! Thank you for delurking. You should have a lot of good stuff to contribute.

Heh...not if they want her help building the new patio and swimming pool.

Lemme guess...one of the dozen prank flash videos linked to ebaumsworld (or one of its clones)? Gotta love 'em--all the excitement and half the charm of the neighbor's leaf blower at 5:00am.

May be the SATA controller, or another device driver. Don't throw out any old versions until you've located the most stable ones for your hardware. Device Manager may help resolve problems & conflicts. CD burner quality, burn speed or media may affect driver integrity as well.

Oh...your login ID is starting to make sense, now. Pleased to meet you, Mr. Gates. Most folks call me Bill. You can call me BeeGee, too--but please, not William.

NoCharge.com dialup--exactly what the name suggests, and proof that you really do get what you pay for.

Power-On Self Test--the PC information & memory test immediately following OEM splash screen (or it may be the first thing appearing). Hit DEL, try to access the BIOS and review settings, or simply try the procedure with another keyboard.

Top of the page, TeoStyle. Unattended CD/DVD Guide link is right below the MSFN banner. Read the whole thing. There's more specific information buried in various threads around here, but that's what the Google Search bar is for. Happy hunting.

Slight edge: Beatles Stick or automatic?

There's the Kaboom--Too bad they performed the test on only a single PC, with the heatsink removed. Be interested to see how far they could crank the clock with the heatsink installed and fan at full blast (I predict miniature reenactment of 'The China Syndrome' or Chernobyl aftermath). I have zero experience with MCE, but the problem is identical to this thread reported for an XP Home edition issue (and one I reproduced with my second nLite installation): http://www.msfn.org/board/lofiversion/index.php/t62304.html The solution in my case was as simple as defining the default user by either net user or oobeinfo.ini method, and selecting AutoLogon=No in my Winnt.sif. Also, these settings will help bypass MiniSetup: UnattendSwitch=Yes, and UnattendMode=(any mode other than FullUnattend). I'm no expert on your second problem, either. dbgeng.dll="DebugEngineSymbologyExtension", though. I presume you selected one or both of these components for removal: Error Reporting or Dr Watson (probably the second, as the first has been removed with impugnity by so many others of us). You may not get more specific info on your Media Center malfunction without a crash dump report. If you want to test this guess, you can probably boot from original CD and copy it directly to System32 and System32\dllcache. I don't believe this .dll needs to be registered. It may not solve your problem, but at least it may help you analyze the component attempting to generate the error. Could be the second problem is caused by the first--startup program attempting to access drivers blocked by Admin autologon defaulting to Safe Mode. Or maybe Dr Watson must pay personal housecall to each MCE start. I suppose folks in the Media Center forum know far more about this than I do. If this doesn't lead to quick resolution, we may be better off asking this thread be moved.

LOL! I can't believe I didn't spot this earlier. Definitely Devil (I play a pretty mean fiddle). Back to present question. I prefer: Paper or plastic (can't believe I'm the first to ask)?

For my laptops, since I never know in advance whether or not I begin browsing online, I set it to about:blank. Favorites menu makes it easy enough to navigate from there. My personal desktop is set to: http://www.google.com/webhp?complete=1&hl=en.

I'll still take it, if it gets me out of course #12.

Yes...Well, we'd hate for those few Chinese celebrators to feel left out. Happy New Year!
-
Heh...I'll go with New Year's for the same reason Just kidding. Most of my relatives are no longer that widely dispersed, though--I see them periodically throughout the year. I'm kind of a bah-humbug person--the constant barrage of crass Christmas commercialism gives me a 2-month headache. I predict it will soon start up immediately after Labor Day. Can never wait to get past it. So I'll still side with New Year's.

Heh...plain vanilla Windows classic interface. Back to the future, baby.

Thanks for taking the bait I think some of the more obvious ones use a variation of actual names for usernames--or an entertainment, game, or popular media figure (which would place them in the second category). Every chosen name is a one-word story. I'm counting on the personal pride of members to embellish--could save our collective membership some searching and guesswork, though it's each member's prerogative to preserve their mystique.

In other words--if pressing F-10 on your computer hasn't already worked, it probably isn't an option. You are better off without it, anyway. Recovery partition provides no flexibility--it comes with factory installed apps and presetted options. You will get a bunch of programs you probably would never use, which would take up unnecessary hard drive space and RAM. Best option is to purchase a copy of Windows for a clean install (and capability of true unattended Windows). Next best option is to use the system or recovery disk provided by your PC manufacturer to do a full or repair install, whenever necessary. Either way, MSFN forums should provide advice and searchable tips to aid your next Windows installation.

Unattended install using bootable DVD
Lazy8 replied to Philster's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Correct on your guess about Nero Express (v6.0, in my case). Has capability to burn bootable CD, but no advanced options for selecting sectors--so it cannot create the ISO image. What's the point? I get the same job done just as quickly--and with far less resource overhead--with CDIMAGE or nLite. Burn my DVD with CDBurnerXP Pro, too, and dispense with Nero entirely. -
Here's my first poll--hope you enjoy it. Mine: Lay an 8 on its side--should be fairly obvious. Took from name I gave my recumbent cycle, the Lay-Z-Eight (an Infinity). Yes, it is every bit as comfortable as the name suggests, and one of few obsessions more powerful than computing. Original credit goes to author Larry Niven. Read 'World of Ptavvs' for the reference. Your user name says a lot about you--or at least how you wish to appear. Some are more easily interpreted than others. Either way, it should be interesting to share with your fellow members.

Welcome, TroolMaster. You should have ample opportunity for both over here.
