  1. Hey Fridge-RaideR. Nice work. I'm gonna give your method a try this weekend when I get some time - (yea right) Seems a cook way to do things.
  2. Yea like the guide master_mtz. nice and simple. not come across this topic before so I am gonna study your guide and give it a try. thanks for your good work
  3. Yes. I read that you had to install hotfixes by KB number sequential lowest first than highest. seemed to me that made sence.
  4. Trawling through the old stuff. Very funny..
  5. Not 100% sure but you quoted ...... When I have made a svcpack I replace the SVCPACK.IN_ in the i386 folder to SVCPACK.INF so it reads my tweaked svcpack Have you also checked your Unattended.txt file? may all be obvious but worth a check????? Hope this helps
  6. chessonly thats useful. I didn't know I had so much software installed Doesn't really tell me where the reg keys point to or does it? I mean C drive or D drive
  7. lloydie Thanks for that info. I shall look in to your suggestion and see how it works out. Thanks
  8. 41 minutes......... Will this work for windows 2k?
  9. Hmmm. Thanks kti^ Seems a bit like trial and error ....................... unless somebody knows for sure which apps need reinstalling after reformat?

    what file?

We're all intreagued as to what you are giong to do with it. please keep us posted.
  11. Deep thought question for you. I have a disk with 2 partitions C:/ has the operating sys and some program files for the apps. D:/ has the raw data and most/some program files. what happens to the regestry entries for D if I reformat the C drive? would the applications located on D:/ Program files still work? would I have to reinstall the apps again to create the regestry keys? I tend to keep C drive small with just the operating system on so I can reformat re install without too much pain. Thanks

    A hippie

Havent heard that one for sure. V funny.
  13. As Kti says more info would be good. normally pc's boot up and give a little beep to say all is well with the pre check boot up. Have you recently knocked your pc or something. I could understand it the other way round???? Perhaps your PC never booted correctly in the first place
  14. Thanks for that Sonic. Does anybody else use sonics method? but in English so that I have the correct syntax etc for using as an template example?
  15. How so its standard layout? Dave's site navi is on the left. osCommerce is cascading down. Its almost impossible I think for web pages to be unique these days as there are so many variations. I think when you do get products - which it says is not loaded up yet, then it will be a nice easy to navigate site. far to many sites are works of art which take an absolute b**ch to load or too complicated to navigate. Use the KISS approach ~ (Keep it simple Sutpid!)
  16. Currently I try to integrate any post sp4 win2k hotfxes by the svcpack.inf methid. whilst this works relatively well, is there any thought on alternative ways to install hotfixes (apart from NLite of course) say after first admin log on. I am thinking.... can it be done say from RunOnceEx.cmd or such like? Curious for anyones thoughts DARN! this post should really be in the unattended post. Sorry. CAn an admin bod move it?
  17. nuke. Yes thats what I dp. I use virtual PC to test my unattended apps. I am still working on perfecting my unattended install before moving on to more advanced stuff. That way you will learn what works ok and what doesn't. Use Nlite to create uour ISo file. its soooooooooooooo simple! Only problem I am figuring out is about 3/4 way through installing hot fixes it asks for a directory to extract to. when I sort out which hot fix thats doing it then I will have have a perfect unattended install - testing on Virtual PC. only two questions it asks............ what drive to install to? and what format NTFS or whatever? Then I am going to build in the office stuff and other apps. Hope that helps.
  18. Thanks to all who gave their opinion. I have managed to track down Partition magig 8 so I am going to play around with that to see how it goes. any problems with it and I'll be right back.
  19. Agree with Bâshrat the Sneaky Snag it does a pretty good job. Version 6 is I think available freeware or shareware.
  20. Just about to take delivery of new lap top. It has an 80gig HDD with XP Pro installed - presumably to 1 C:\ Drive. Seeking opinions and yes I have searched the forum and to my surprise I can't find any info Can I use the XP Disk management feature to divide the disk up to say C:\ drive 50gig, then a new drive, D:\ of the remaining space (just under 30gig)? Last thing I really want to do is Fdisk the whole lot if I can't, will partition magic for XP do the job? thanks B)
  21. Cheers Pene. engaged typing fingers before reading all the stuff in the pages first
  22. Yes your right. Thats what I should have asked. Who's got the largest unattended CD/DVD which does full install no intervention? (or maybe whos unattended disk gets the furthest through - discounting speed as rikgale says, thats dependent on the hardware). Thanks for the correction rikgale
  23. If all you want to do is roll back a mashed up install, can't you use something like Ghost? to make an image of the pc in good condition or do you want to do more than that? B)
  24. Working on me unattended disk and was wondering.... whats the record out there for the longest unattended, no human hand intervention, for an install with as much operating system drivers and applications etc,as coud be installed I bet there are some surprises
  25. Not sure if the administrators will allow me to post this link, because I think its a kind of rival unattended tech site. The reason I have posted it is the links at the end for creating boot disks for various packages are quite good especially for beginners. Admin Guys. If this gets wiped I fully understand. Guide for creating boot disks Hope this helps
