  1. Trying out my ISO file on the Virtual Pc. It always asks to reformat the virtual C drive. I am tearing me hair out over this - then I thought. Perhaps it should do this on the VPC as its not got a ready formatted disk, but it MIGHT work on a real formatted disk. What does anybody think? Have I been chasing my tail!
  2. Boy am I having trouble with the Product key. Most of my iso file works but it ALWAYS ASKS for the D** n product key. Heres mt Unattended answer file. Anybody spot glaring error? I would also like it to just format NTFS is this "Filesystem=*"? I'm also trying to install with UK Language etc. Have I the right codes etc? Thanks
  3. Are you sure you got the right switches and correct syntax. I checked my slipstream and found all yours had slipped OK in my install when I checked via the VirtualPC machine. I have by the way the following exe files which did not install for me either: ~ KB814078.exe /passive /norestart /quiet KB823182.exe -u -z –q KB823559.exe -u -z –q KB824105.exe -u -z –q KB828026.exe /passive /norestart /quiet "KB832483.exe /C:""dahotfix.exe /q /n"" /q:a" KB833989.exe /Q:A /R:N KB873374.exe /Q:A /R:N (HALT BOX) import this registry setting instead: REG ADD "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\GdiDetectionTool" /v "GDITool" /t REG_DWORD /d "00000001" /f KB883939.exe /passive /norestart /quiet KB890923.exe /q /n /z KB891711.exe /passive /norestart /quiet KB897715.exe /passive /norestart /quiet I also slipstreamed in SVpack 4 (using win2K) I'm thinking that the exe's that didnt work may be superceeded by newer fixes? Is this possible? Could be the same in your case.
  4. Think I had same problem - Virtual PC runs out of memory. have you already tried to run your unattended iso file. Wot I did was delete the iso image in my Virtual PC file - clear out the memory if you like then it runs OK. seems to be that it creates just enough space in the virtual hard drive space. I think also from memory that you can assign Virtual PC to expand as necessary but not 100% sure on this hope that helps
  5. Thanks for that Incroyable HULK Sorry, Did not know about using the hotfix thread. is this one of those 'Stickies'
  6. Wouldn't bother purchasing it. it only gives you more tweeks to fiddle with. the free version does its job and thats to block nasties. I tried the pro version and it LOCKED EVERYTHING DOWN so I couldn't get anything through.
  7. Indian. Sometimes we humans have to chill out for fear of going crazy. Perhaps not the funniest trick but pretty good.
  8. Anybody got any comments reference the red lines. It seems to work but I am unsure what does the """" do? and I can understand the HALT instruction but is the next bit going to work for the registry. Thanks for any help. Any useful sites for researching would be helpful ato me as well B)
  9. Working thru my first unattended Cd and going great! Have created my svcpack inf with all the hot fixes to install. Can I just ask if I have gramatically compiled it. here is a few lines I need checking... should these (red) be in "quote" marks? and should this (Red) be correct? Thanks. Just want to make my SVCPACK squeeky clean this is not the complete inf file if anyone is wondering just the relevent bits Thanks
  10. Silly question jdgordon. I'm a relative newby and have just created my first unattended win2k iso file. used virtual pc to test. Works out shed loads cheaper than burning disks Anyway point is, I think I like your idea. One possible nice to have might be....... when you click on the particular item to type in your answer, it assumes you know what to type, yes? How about where there is limited choices anyway, creating a drop down menu to choose the correct options! Just a thought. Will download and check it out
  11. Thanks for that Maelstorm. I used NLite to create my ISO file. Easy Wasn't sure 'bout NLite but like it a lot now. Am closing this thread as I have another one going - similar topic. Thread now closed see my other one
  12. Agree with BrandonS_Mil. I used NLite to cut an ISO file. Didn't realise that NLite did this. Once I cut that I got Virtual PC to loaad sweet as a nut. It runs perfect. However I have a few anoying attended bits I need to get automated, then thats it on to the intermediate part of the unattended guide. Thanx for everyones help starting me out. I was tearing my hair out trying to obtain an iso file image.
  13. Thanks. I have a couple of things I want to try sorting out myself before asking - best way to learn, However sometimes people who do stuff all day get quick. thanks everyone who helped. I now understand shed loads
  14. thanks guys for recommending NLite to create an ISO. Guess what it really works. I only thought NLIte stripped stuff out. Just running my first unattended. some small probs but no sweat Thanks again
  15. Sozz! Will abort this thread
  16. Ooooo Kay! I shall give it a go. I am having to load up virtual pc with my a drive start win2k disks to get it running (first time its run) should it do this?
  17. Yse I can see that happening but NO no disks anywhere!
  18. Am trying to avoid using NLite 'cos I want to do it the manual way like in the unattended guide. Do you think that I would be better trying NLite to create an ISO?
  19. I have downloaded Virtual PC and installed same. when I select to start it starts to bootup (virtually) then it stops and reports an error "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device" Now last night I got this running once with the win2k blue screen start up. since then nothing. any special thing I should be doing? Thanks Frustrated
  20. Ok I worked out to download CDIIMAGE GUI to create an ISO image. I am using this image to use virtual pc but it is asking for disk 2 insert into a drive??????
  21. I have managed to get Virtualpc running with my new iso image slipstream win2k sp4 files. when it runs it starts OK then asks for the disk 2 to be inserted into the a drive. This cant be right surely. Have I dine something wrong? Thanks
  22. Ok. I have now followed the unattended XP guide and have created a slipstream folder for my win2k with sp4 and SVCPACK hotfixes. I have installed the VirtualPC for testing. Rather than burn another CD disk I want to use the virtualpc to test my slipstream files. How do I create an ISO? file? to do this with the folder of Files I now have? the guide is not very clear on this.
  23. Great response. Using window 2000 sp0 and playing around with blank formatted hard disks for experimenting. Buying a laptop V soon and so will get XP Pro with it to play with more Assumed that the dumb A** question was dumb but just wanted to be sure, as I am having a bit of trouble creating my first disk at the mo. It wont load up at all. will keep plodding along to see if I can sort it before asking for advice. - best way to learn I think Thanks
  24. Yea. Great Thanks a lot. I knew it would be a simple thing but couldn't work it out.
  25. Don't know if I did something by mistake but I used to be able to view all the toopic replies in full screen. now I get the first reply full screen and all the other replies hyperlinked underneath. has this style recently changed or did I mess up a setting. Tried all sorts to get back to FULL view.
