  5. Hi Try redirecting your question to the correct forum - in your case NLite where the experts will be able to help you
  6. Am working through the XP unattended guide to make my first unattended disk. Dumb A** question, but I am assuming that the guide will work exactly the same for a win2000 installation with changes (xp/win2k) as appropriate, obviously?
  7. OK Thank you forv the advice. That will cut about 64 meg from the installation. Still not sure if I needed to merge the 2000distrib folder. This came about when I was creating the answer file I think??
  8. Hi. I have just created my first slipstreamed win 2k installation files with Service pack 4 and all the hot fixes in a SVC.inf pack. Went through the guide with a fine toothcomb and did everything by the guide. (up to the intermediate section and stopped). Problem is when I try to copy the unattended folder structure using NERO6. I have burnt disks via the CDROM (ISO) method and did the disk at once method and track at once as a guide showed!). I tried CDROM (Boot) again using disk at once. However when I tried using the disk in a newly formatted hard disk nothing hapens. it runs but wont even start to load any files. Is there some setting I am not using or option to use. Which should I use? I notice that I also have a folder (in mycase 2000CDdistribution?? This shouldn't be included should it?, as if so it goes way over a CD limit! I have followed the eleder geeks guide to using NERO but they use a earlier version. Help appreciated to where I am possibly going wrong as I am rapidly running out of CD disks!!
  9. Got it. I was told that I had to use the spx version of nlite. remember to install the runtime files and nlit files in the SAME folder. it works a treat for those of you who dont want to install 23meg of .net stuff!!
  10. Stupid questions seem to be my speciality. but some members take this in their stride and help anyway. goy some good advice from this forum. cheers

    hello

Hi Dave. Found this site a couple weeks ago and its got shed loads of good stuff from real techy stuff to newbee stuff for me. you should find answers here most members are v helpful
  12. Ok. I'm a newby just about to start my first 2000 slipstream. I was compliing a list of hot fixes as advised on the guide. So what you are saying is I don't need this exhaustive hot fix list which is awesom to say the least! i guess that there will be little hotfixes left then will there? How best would I find out what hotfixes I still need after slipstreamin win2k 'gold' and sp4? thanks great news this
  13. As a newbie this guide is great. I can't wait to try out all this techy stuff. One problem I am having is getting .net framework to load up. I used the save and deploy method and install direct from internet but it produces an error half way through. Could it be my laptop is not up to it or do I need to install something else as I cant use Nlite til I get this sorted. thanks
  14. Hey you guys - is this the wackey Races fan club appreciation society or what!! Well, I think I have enough info reading around (DLF!) to make a good stab at creating my first disk. Just bought a couple of disks from e-bay to practice a clean install. Watch this space guys!
  15. Hi. Came across this forum and think the questions and answers are good. good mix of easy stuff and some difficult stuff - i don't understand yet! but i am hoping to learn new skills with the guidance of the elders out there.
  16. Thanks for that excellent help there DLF. As I said as a newbe i am willing to learn from you "experts" its a new subject I am just starting out in. Need all the help I can get at the moment! Cheers
  17. Thank you for your help! I am relatively new to this side of things and thought it best to check with the 'experts' before I cock it all up! Your last link is to all the hot fixes in one place is it? So I can just download the hot fixes from there? well that saves a lot of work then! Still, was my original question about the VM a correct assumption? perhaps us newbees should have special markers!! Newbee on the loose.
  18. Hi. Been reading the excellent manual "The definitive how to guide" all about slipstreaming and creating an unattended CD (win 2000, in my case). It says for getting all the critical update hotfixes, to set up a 'base install' - with no updates, and use the Windows Update feature etc. Do I create a virtual machine partition and install a clean install of win2k here and use this method to collect all the critical updates numbers to get the files together? Thanks Railman5
