  1. I was worried that Microsoft threatened legal action over the fileset. I was worried that Microsoft sent a DMCA complaint to the host! Because of the fact that Microsoft is getting aggressive about intellectual property. This definitely didn't look good with the recent aggressive intellectual property protection spree. Microsoft is now the most aggressive that I have ever saw! Microsoft bought out companies that they likely normally would have not. I hope Microsoft gets prosecuted by the DOJ and/or sued again! It appears that we have a corporate war!
  2. Someone a while ago talked about Opera getting aquired by Microsoft. I hope that isn't true.
  3. I hope that FDV isn't in major trouble.
  4. Unfortunately, that sounds like an Internet Explorer problem, especially if using Internet Explorer 5x.
  5. Some of that don't make sense. The Services control panel don't require WMI. Also, the event log don't require WMI.
  6. Why does Windows 2000 create this folder despite the fact that Windows 2000 don't have System Restore?
  7. Looks like I won't get Vista for a long time, unless otherwise. The activation stuff is going to just make many users stay with earlier versions of Windows until EOL!
  8. The processor may have overheated. Newer motherboards have anti-processor overheat protection. If the heatsink isn't seated properly or the fan stopped, this symptom can occur.
  9. That looks like a hardware malfunction. Make sure that your heatsink is seated properly and that the fan is working and working properly. That don't sound like a Windows bug. More likely a coincidence. You can get the symptoms that you just had if the processor is overheating. The same can happen if the GPU cooling is bad. But waking up with it off, but with the power LED blinking or flashing sounds like the anti-processor overheat protection got triggered.
  10. 4.00.950B is OSR2! It's OSR2.0 or 2.1. OSR 2.5 probably would be this or similar to 4.00.950C.
  11. Actually, with the Via KT880, with some benchmarks, it loses and with some, it wins or at least roughly the same! It may lose in 3D Mark 2001 SE, but heard that it's fine with real world performance. It's not like the Via KT400, where unfortunately seemed to always be behind, even with the DDR SDRAM latencies at 2.0-2-2-6. I doubt that it performs majorly worse than the nForce2, unless there isn't a high enough PCI and AGP divider. Also, I heard that the FSB is limited to 227 mhz with the Asus A7V880. (this appears to be Asus' fault) Heard that the Asus A7V880 stock BIOS won't let you select any higher than 227 mhz for the FSB. Heard that a BIOS mod can solve that problem. Also, the nForce2 likely is going to be slower than the Via KT880 under Windows 98 and Windows ME. It seems that you're required to use a NT-based Windows with nForce2s for performance advantages.
  12. Why? Did you have a lot of problems with your Maxtor HDDs? There did seem to be major problems with the 6E030L0s. But I have yet to have a failure with the non-slimline Maxtor HDDs. I have a 13 GB 7,200 RPM from 1999 and still is fine despite a major amount of repartitions and reformats.
  13. You're screwed if you gotten an OEM copy of Windows XP. You shall have gotten Windows 2000 Pro instead.
  14. LOL.
  15. In Opera, I sometimes get "Click to activate this control" for Flash applets! I thought that this is supposed to apply to Internet Explorer only! This is because Microsoft lost a patent lawsuit. The patent lawsuit reguards automatically running applets.
  16. IMO, the Asus A7V880 appears to be one of the best socket A motherboards. The Epox EP-8KRAIPRO, I dunno. Epox, unlike Asus, has had a history of using caps that are believed to be bad quality. Thus the motherboard may not be stable for long.
  17. This is common with HP PCs.
  18. Look for a .Net Framework runtime error report in the event log. That shall give more information. Please post the .Net Framework runtime error report. If it's a file not found exception, make sure you're not using Kerio Personal Firewall! Kerio Personal Firewall is known to intefere with nLite, even when you click "Permit". Also, please attach the Last Session.ini file instead of copying and pasting.
  19. If there's a side effect in Vista, then the OC isn't stable. Besides, I never heard of a Windows-unstable OC that Prime95 can pass on! In fact, it's possible for Prime95 to fail with a game-stable OC!
  20. Are you using QEMU for the VM? If you are that's probably why. It's known to take it's sweet time under QEMU. Strangely, with QEMU, if you keep on moving the mouse, Windows Setup may go faster!
  21. I dunno.
  22. LOL
  23. What's the matter with the latest service pack under Windows 2000? I would understand if it was Windows XP, because of later service packs adding more annoyances. Windows XP 2002 service pack 3 likely is going to be intrusive.
  24. First off, for Windows 98 support, get a Via-based motherboard! nForce chipsets appear to be lousy in the Windows 98 department. With nForce chipsets, you should use a Windows NT-based OS only! Not confirmed: With nForce-based motherboards, using a non Windows NT-based OS is more likely to cause performance issues. There's possibly gonna be lower 3D Mark 2001 SE performance and SuperPi may always take at least 2 seconds longer! But I dunno about games. Confirmed: nForce-based motherboards are known for stability issues with Windows 98. Windows 98 may lock up after installing the video driver and it may randomly reboot for no apparent reason.
  25. Whoops... I knew I forgot something... The descriptions never make sense to me. MS propably released this as a separate hotfix because it isn't Patch Tuesday yet, or because it's important enough that "dummies" should see it clearly... but the latter doesn't make much sense since it would be shown on the Windows Update site in that case. My guess is they will update the KB920958 hotfix on October, 10. I'm going to make a new Windows 2000 Pro CD with the FDV fileset. Do I still require KB920958? I got KB920958 in the recycle bin right now. LOL.
