Yep. Also can occur if your processor overclock isn't stable, especially if you get that for Prime95. But, it's possible that your processor revision is bugged. Early Pentium processors (dunno about the Pentium Pro) reportedly has a floating point bug.

"invalid instruction" looks like corrupted Flash, processor or RAM malfunction. You can test your Pentium processor with Prime95 and the RAM with the Prime95 blend test or Memtest86.

That's not correct. Windows is still usable without the Windows Management Instrumentation service enabled. But motherboard voltage and temp monitoring likely won't work.

This is a major problem. Because Windows 2000 and Windows XP shall include it! I'm afraid that your copy of Windows 2000 is messed up or Microsoft never included it with non-English versions.

The only solution is to repartition, reformat the HDD then reinstall Windows with all other HDDs unplugged and try again.

Known issue with some motherboards, especially nForce-based motherboards. But, the problem is less likely to occur if you have a GeForce with nForce. The problem was observed when using a Radeon 9000 Pro with nForce. Also, it appears that Windows 98, nForce and ATI don't mix! But, the good news is that you may be able to get around that problem by using Windows ME. I noticed the above with my Asus A7N266-VM/AA motherboard. On the Asus A7N266-VM/AA, if I install Windows 98 SE and install the nForce drivers, then after I install the Catalyst drivers and reboot, it locks up. But it was fine with Windows ME! I found that to be a strange issue, because ME didn't have major changes, AFAIK. But you do have a Nvidia video card. Thus I dunno.

Sounds like it's likely the W32.Pinfi virus. That virus is known to create files in the Temp directory and corrupt a major amount of files!

That hits the mark! It appears that it is because of the .url file association being deleted, but I wasn't sure how to put that back. It appears that there's no way to submit the 3D Mark 2001 SE results without the .url file association. I tried to find another method to submit the results, but failed.

It appears to be directly from Windows 2000. It also reminds me of the error message that I used to get from Windows 3.1, when someone pulled a trick to stop some users from hopping on to the internet by deleting Netscape.exe, back where I used to be at, back in the 1990s, when the internet was new.

This for the majority is a video driver issue. But, I had similar problems when my GeForce 4 Ti 4200 was overclocked too much, 3D Mark 2001 SE would pause and have video corruption, then get an error message from 3D Mark 2001 SE saying that a 3D init failure occurred.

The way I interpreted a report on the internet about this a while ago, I thought that this only applies to copies of Windows XP from Dell, HP, Compaq, Gateway and eMachines. Now, I guess that it also applies to indy PC builders.

A majorly similar problem with a person's PC that I saw, which is connected to Comcast, AFAIK: Every some minutes, Windows XP keeps on displaying the "A network cable is unplugged." balloon! Connection interruption is confirmed by using the Ping command. When that occurs, ping packets were lost. Has anyone else had this problem?

Known issue. It isn't anything to do with the PC being a Dell or the fact that it's on a DVD. It's triggered by slipstreaming or integrating SP2. If SP2 isn't slipstreamed or integrated, this problem isn't known to occur.
