Unless you're talking about modding the modem to get lower pings. (latencies) But, unlike POTS, the modem may not mean Jack, when it comes to latencies.

You shoudn't have to worry. It's not Windows 3x! LOL. You need to set up user profiles so that when they change their desktop, won't be changed when another user logs in. The ability for each user to have their own desktop style has existed since Windows 95! Get with the times!

4.10.2222 is Windows 98 SE.

STOP: 0x000000A IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL is probably because your processor core isn't stable. Please increase the Vcore and try again. I used to get that BSOD often with my T-bird 900. Common issue with Athlon processors. Also, you can avoid getting that BSOD when in the middle of a game by running Prime95. Prime95 is known to fail even when it seems OK.

"Windows Product Activation" prompt on nLite-installed XP -
RJARRRPCGP replied to Schema's topic in nLite
I believe that you have been bitten by the bug that Microsoft apparently refuses to admit: Windows XP refuses to give a grace period, Windows XP immediately demands activation and if you click no, you get logged out immediately. If you tell it to activate online, it's likely just gonna go right to "Windows was unable to activate online.", especially if you have a POTS internet connection. (56k or lower) With this bug, Windows XP don't even dial my modem! Apparently under some conditions, Windows XP ignores POTS internet connections. You may be required to get an ethernet-linked internet connection, just to activate! While this bug may be triggered by nLite, it's known to occur when not nLited. Also, I forgot to tell you that with this bug, you will know that you have been bitten, because OOBE will get stuck and you only have an account called "Administrator". -
Unless you have at least 2 GB of RAM, don't even think about disabling the pagefile!
-
it is a good one I agree! Jetico Personal Firewall 1x is the smallest of the most functional firewalls! Checked with Task Manager when testing it under Windows 2000 Pro SP4, when I did, it had the smallest RAM usage. BTW, if you're also thinking about Comodo Firewall, you shouldn't even bother trying, unless you hope for a workaround, because I gotten error pop-ups and that was it when Internet Explorer was removed.
-
Are you sure about that being your RAM. It's more likely to be a motherboard issue with more than 1 DIMM used. Bad RAM usually causes Windows to give you to get the dreaded STOP: 0x00000050 PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA and/or STOP: 0x0000004E PFN_LIST_CORRUPT BSODs. Also, Windows likely would complain about a file being corrupted. Sometimes, even a file not found error!
-
That's typical when overclocking your processor and don't test it with Prime95. You must test it with Prime95 first before you do anything else! Otherwise, don't complain to people if you get a BSOD and reboot.

I have a tip: If you have 7-Zip, right click on the hotfix file and select 7-Zip>Test archive. If 7-Zip displays "X is not supported archive", then the hotfix probably is corrupted.

Do you think that it's related to me slipstreaming DirectX 9 with HFSLIP then using nLite?

nForce2 sucks with Windows 9x! I know, because I tested it on my Asus A7N8X-X and the benchmarks were degraded noticably! I can't trust it with nForce2. I lost at least close to 10 FPS in 3D Mark 2001 SE!
-
With a Windows application, it's nothing to do with conventional memory! It's probably a Vcache issue. Also, I only saw that with virtual memory being disabled on a PC that barely has enough RAM.
-
Wrong, unless it's NT-based, because UPDATE.SYS of Windows 9x don't support AMDs! When I tested graphics performance with 3D Mark 2001 SE, ALWAYS slower than with Windows 2000 and XP on AMD! That gives me a performance idea for at least Direct3D performance. With CAD, you can easily be SOL if the drivers don't support Quadro. There's a major gap between Windows 9x and Windows 2000 and XP with AMD systems. Between the two, was an alarming FPS drop with Windows 98 SE. With AMD, you're SOL, because Microsoft didn't add AMD support to UPDATE.SYS, AFAIK! Also, beware of possible reboots with nForce chipsets. Also, you may get nothing else but a black screen after installing the video drivers, especially with ATIs on nForce chipsets But the performance issues may be less severe with Via chipsets. With AMD, Via chipsets likely are the best chipsets for Windows 9x

How does win-98se install know that a previous version was (partially)
RJARRRPCGP replied to 98 Guy's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Low level erase the HDD and try again. http://dban.sourceforge.net -
I agree, somewhat. For example, according to Asus, with the A7V8X-X, the maximum is 3 GB. Probably a chipset limitation. It may be because it boots with 4 GB, but has corruption.
-
I never had that occur! At least with Windows 98 SE. I wouldn't blame that on Windows. In fact that sounds more like the problems with newer PCs when using Windows 9x. nForce chipsets and Windows 9x don't mix!

Here's what you do - save or redownload a couple of hotfixes and apply them manually after a fresh install - then check the logs. Seriously, if you let Windows Update go hog boar wild and try to install some 10, 20 or 50 updates at once no telling what is gonna get broke. As it is the one time I did use Automatic Updates I had to reboot my computer and re-enter Windows Update no fewer than 4 different times - because Windows Update needed this, that or the other upgraded on my system before it would even let me access the actual updates. Off to the alternative methods of patching my computer I went. Are you saying that Windows Update sucks when it comes to applying many hotfixes?
-
Likely bad caps. Did you check the caps?

Emergency - Bad ethernet nic asus a8n5x/ realtec rtl8139?
RJARRRPCGP replied to George27's topic in Hardware Hangout
Your chipset drivers probably aren't installed. Please download and install the latest nForce drivers. -
Nope. Still the same after I reformatted the HDD then reinstalled Windows from scratch.

At 69C, expect another BSOD and reboot to be around the corner.

Unofficial Root Certificates 2007 Update
RJARRRPCGP replied to erpdude8's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
I likely was the first one to notice this! Also, when I checked the properties of it, it said "Vista"! Thus even Windows XP may not be supported anymore, despite it wasn't EOL'ed! -
Yep. Also, I saw the above s*** on someone's Dell Dimension with Windows XP 2002 SP2. It appears that Windows Update likely isn't applying the updates in the right order!

Via actually was fine for Windows 98. They have been fine, at least since 2003. Definitely better then nForce with Windows 98. Nvidia, except for their video cards, sucks when it comes to Windows 98!
