I agree. Sounds like packet corruption. Is Windows reporting errors in packets?
-
Are you using a third party IDE driver? (from the chipset manufacturer) If you are, it probably is majorly buggy!

Windows 2000 expects futuremark.com to be on my HDD. When attempting to submit my 3D Mark 2001 SE results, gotten the following error message from Windows 2000: Cannot find the file 'http://service.futuremark.com/servlet/Index?pageid=/orb/projectdetails&XLID=9122583&UID=7438271&projectType=6' (or one of it's components). Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are available.

I gotten the same type of problem, right above the Microsoft Cab Maker text, gotten "The system cannot find the file specified." . But that didn't cause me to have a failed install.
-
I just noticed the same type of s*** on somone's Dell PC. This smells like a Microsoft bug that Microsoft won't admit! This appears to be enough that Microsoft shall be taking action!
-
I noticed that error message too. I gotten the error message, "The system cannot find the file specified." in a spot that I never saw any error message at before. It was before and right above the Microsoft Cab Maker status text. Thus I gotten worried that my January 1, 2007 Windows 2000 Pro SP4 compilation with the FDV fileset and a couple more hotfixes was going to fail. If it did, that wouldn't be like HFSLIP! HFSLIP is very predictable! It was fine. Is this because of the December, 2006 hotfixes?

Sounded like overheating. Because I gotten that BSOD when it was sunny outside.

Activex control does not load on Windows 2003 server
RJARRRPCGP replied to jos707's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
That's probably because of the default security settings. Someone at Microsoft decided to make Windows Server 2003 crippled by default. Likely is because of the fact that Steve Ballmer took over. That guy gets to me! -
I dunno if they're even available in the Clawhammer variant. They likely are all San Diego. Thus a BIOS flash likely is required for it to boot with one! San Diego is the new single core process, which requires less Vcore than the Clawhammers.

I heard that the C7s rock. I heard that they perform as good as a Pentium M! It sounds like Via didn't make the mistake that they did with the C3s, which reportedly performed worse than Pentium 4s per clock and performed like a Pentium II. I'm just curious if there's any motherboards for them that let you OC them? But I don't like what I saw at the PCChips website, appears to likely be soldered on the motherboard and impossible to OC, just like the 486SXs! It seems that they think it's still the early 1990s! LOL.

I heard that the Radeon X1xxx video cards are good, but watch out for the SEs. The SEs are known to have slow VRAM. The 9800 is considered outdated by today's standards and may actually use more power than a X800! I heard that Radeon X800 Pros use less power than a Radeon 9800 Pro.

Getting WFP "Unrecognized version" errors whenever using nLi
RJARRRPCGP replied to Philomorph's topic in nLite
This is a known issue. It's more likely to give you that pop-up, sometimes a pop-under if SP2 is slipstreamed or integrated! Sometimes, that message is a pop-under when I install a third party driver. I can't recall getting that message if I install Windows XP without a service pack then install service pack 2. -
LOL I remembered that saying!

Disable/Forbid IE in Win2003 Workstation
RJARRRPCGP replied to pepoluan's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
Here's a place that can help you with that: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?act=SF&s=&f=129 -or- nLite: http://nliteos.com Those are the only ways to make sure that IE don't get used! -
But, if the power supply isn't sufficient, that may show up as random crashes instead. You may get video corruption when running any 3D. Symptoms to look for is video corruption and/or a crash in 3D Mark. If 3D Mark passes, the power supply is sufficient.

Benchmark sites comparing Windows 2000 with Windows 98SE
RJARRRPCGP replied to myelin's topic in Windows 9x/ME
It depends on the hardware. It was believed that Pentium 4s would suffer under any pre-Windows XP OS. Also, people said that Windows 2000 is faster than Windows XP with Athlon systems. From my experiences: Windows 98 SE pwned Windows XP when playing Perfect Dark with Project64 on Via KT133 based motherboards with a T-bird. Benchmark performance sucks with non-NT based Windows on my Asus A7N8X-X, which is nForce2-based. 3D Mark 2001 SE always had lower FPS under Windows 98 SE than with Windows 2000 and Windows XP on my Asus A7N8X-X. -
flash drive pulled early = Blue Screen Of Death!
RJARRRPCGP replied to mr_malkovich's topic in Windows XP
May be heat-related if it keeps on crashing. -
Have you checked the temperatures? I gotten a similar symptom before when there was warm air coming in my duct, (but I have Windows 2000 Pro SP4) it would BSOD when in the middle of installing .Net Framework 2.0 and then BSOD'ed again after it was rebooted. Random BSODs often are hardware-related. Well, I ended up just reformatting and reinstalling Windows 2000 Pro after hooking my air conditioner to the intake. I shall have done that earlier. Because I'm OC'ing my Barton 3000+ and I was lazy. I didn't think that the temperature was high enough for a BSOD when running a less processor-demanding task. The outside air was heating up, because the sun was shining on my outside air extracting apparatus. With my Barton 3000+ OC, as long as the outside air temperature isn't higher than the 30s, possibly the low 40s, (farenheit) I won't get crashes.

Data Execution Prevention issue
RJARRRPCGP replied to PatrickEmpire's topic in Windows XP 64 Bit Edition
I knew about that already. But I never saw that problem with the non-hardware-supported, even when software-based DEP was enabled. Appears to be a bug that affects only hardware-supported ones. -
Data Execution Prevention issue
RJARRRPCGP replied to PatrickEmpire's topic in Windows XP 64 Bit Edition
Stupid bug! It's known to occur with Athlon 64-based systems. I saw DEP interfere before on someone's Compaq Presario with I believe a socket 754 Sempron 3000+. That was despite Windows XP being 32-bit. Thus this problem isn't just a Windows XP 64-bit Edition problem. I saw DEP interfere, because of Winpooch. It's possible to get the dreaded DEP pop-up when using Winpooch. But the application being terminated likely was a Microsoft application, too! I can't recall getting the dreaded DEP pop-up with an Athlon XP. -
Blue screen STOP 0x000000 A5 when testing WinXP slipstreamed package

I majorly doubt that the BSOD has a web site link. -
HELP - After booting windows he just wont format and install
RJARRRPCGP replied to Jhonyb's topic in nLite
Low level format the HDD then try again. -
This may be a coincidence. I gotten similar symptoms. I would get a lock up and be forced to reformat again, because I made a human error, which reguards my overclocking. I gotten a lock up before when I was reinstalling Windows, because with my overclock, I forgot to turn on my phase change cooler! Also, more recently, gotten a BSOD when just installing .Net Framework 2.0, because I was using air ducting from outside, but the outside temperature wasn't low enough! That means I was required to connect my phase change air cooler (an air conditioner) back to my PC!

If you get an Athlon XP, don't get nForce-based motherboards! It seems that the Windows 98 nForce drivers suck. It appears that nForce 2-based motherboards require Windows NT-based Windows for them to work properly. Most benchmarks show that my nForce2 motherboard's performance is degraded when the version of Windows isn't NT-based.
