  1. If it's new, then it's because of the bleepin' anti-copy protection!
  2. If you have Windows 2000, I definitely don't recommend the defragmentation software that comes with Windows. It will refuse to defragment system files, even when they're safe to defragment. It also seems to take it's sweet time.
  3. That sounds just like a dreaded HDD click of death! If that happened to me, I would have panicked and suspected a bad HDD!
  4. This is a known problem with NTFS. This problem I believe existed in Windows XP and Windows 2000. A workaround is to format the boot HDD with FAT32 then convert it to NTFS after the Windows installation process is complete or disconnect all other HDDs.
  5. Good news, someone at the Microsoft message board said "Windows 2000 should automatically pass validation since it is not a WGA Supported OS."
  6. The majority don't appear to be based on MicroWinX.
  7. I don't like to tell you this, even Windows 98 has made a good improvement. Even Windows 98 is better than Windows 95. That's my favorite version when Windows 2000 and later hassle me. Even Windows 2000 can be real picky! No DRM bull forced on people in Windows 98. If even Windows 2000 has hassled me, (but I'm starting to get the kinks worked out) I can only imagine what Vista would be like, there's a majorly high chance of it breaking compatibility, because of the anti-kernel patch protection. Everybody may be required to rewrite their software! It's appearing that there's going to be a Linux boom! What Microsoft did likely is coming back to bite them.
  8. Nope. But will the anti-kernel patching protection cause major compatibility problems?
  9. Microsoft says that any kernel patching causes Windows to treat the data as a data corruption attack and generate a fatal exception, a stop error, thus halt.
  10. LOL that reminds me of when I always gotten ***STOP:0x000000A IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL when playing a game when my old T-bird was overclocked with Windows XP but it was stable under Windows 98 SE. That's because it wasn't stable and Windows XP made the processor work harder. LOL. It's unstable. Run Prime95 and it won't stand a chance!
  11. That can't be right! I don't think that's even possible under Windows 98! First off, because FAT and FAT32 require the boot HDD to be drive C, AFAIK! With NTFS, it can be as high as F. Windows 98 don't support NTFS, because it isn't NT-based!
  12. Microsoft, you suck in this department! It's a Microsoft cover-up.
  13. I dunno. Was it fine with other versions of Windows?
  14. That BSOD is usually because of the processor being overclocked too much. Are you overclocking your processor?
  15. Yes, some older Award BIOSes had a stupid bug causing divide overflow during the disk detection but it can be easily corrected. From the above mentioned boards, for GA-586HX and GA-586T2 I have corrected the bug myself: http://www.ryston.cz/petr/bios/ , for GA-686LX Gigabyte released new BIOS version with 32GB+ support: http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherb...?ProductID=1460 Petr Lucky you. Because it seems that motherboard manufacturers would have stopped releasing newer BIOS versions a long time ago! Because I believe that the motherboard manufacturer won't release any later BIOS revisions! I didn't know that you were able to fix that.
  16. Did you uninstall any application? If you did, is the same problem still there?
  17. Really? I don't believe that they can recognise HDDs bigger than 32 GB. Before 2001, there was a 32 GB HDD limitation. Also, if manufactured before 1998, then probably the 8 GB HDD limitation.
  18. It's likely that Windows got corrupted. If the crash don't go away, after removing some third party applications, you're required to reformat and reinstall Windows. Sorry.
  19. Yes! Because I'm still stuck with 56k!
  20. No link for the http://www.vorck.com/hfcleanup_2kextra.zip Bad link. Error 404.
  21. Did you click on "Details"? If you do, does it say that X attempted to execute an invalid instruction in Y. If it did then then it's probably attempting to use a feature that the processor don't support. Sorry. With newer processors, it's possibly because of an unstable processor overclock.
  22. Tomb Raider? Then I dunno. Is it even playable on Windows XP at all? If it's Tomb Raider, then it's likely that it's compatible with Windows 98 only. Sorry.
  23. But that don't mean that a Windows NT-based OS is much better. In fact, Windows NT-based operating systems are more picky. They like to BSOD even on new systems.
  24. Uncheck "Automatically reboot", (or similar) just in case.
