I had a problem with this when trying to print in taskpad view.. try this to fix 1. Open the shared calendar. 2. On the Outlook File menu, click Print. 3. Under Print Style, click to select Daily Style and click Page Setup. 4. Click TaskPad to deselect it. 5. Click OK and OK to close and print.

yes.. to connect to win2k pro you will have to use a 3rd party application like VNC or pcAnywhere to connect to it. RDP is not available for Win2k(NON SERVER) Pro. Your surprised.. this is Microsofts way of saying "Upgrade or die" this is why wireless support is non existant witout 3rd party apps on 2k and why usb is non existant on NT4.0.... They need a reason for people to upgrade so they leave out features and save them for the next version

I thought you were going to be moving your mail server inhouse from an external mail server not multiple domain accounts.. Mailenable will not sync with external 3rd party accounts. The only thing I have ran into that will do this is exchange server with a POP3 connector ( http://www.mapilab.com/exchange/pop3_connector/ ) I thought you were going to like say move domain.com from your ISP's mail server to inside your domain. It sounds to me now that you are planning on trying to sync yahoo.com, hotmail.com, msn.com and aol.com and other 3rd party accounts with internal accounts in mail enable.. As far as I have gotten into it with mailenable .. this isnt possible.

Make a batch script that contains the commands that you use when you start it from the command prompt. Then using either local policy or domain policy, set it as a computer startup script.

If it is SBS 2003 with Exchange 2003. you are going to want to look into the POP3 connector that comes with it. Exchange 2003 Standard or Enterprise does not come with the pop3 connector and needs to be purchased seperately This is what I use http://www.mapilab.com/exchange/pop3_connector/

no.. this only works on 2000(by installing it this way) XP Pro and 2003 server have this functionality also but to get that to work you right click on my computer and go to properties, choose the remote tab and check "Enable remote desktop on this computer?

Linking to Shared Files on another computer...
chilifrei64 replied to XL-DJK's topic in Networks and the Internet
ftp can do this........much simpler to setup than vpn with 2 workstations(non-servers) A remote desktop client (RDP/VNC) is another alternative.. however you need to actually take control of their pc unless the program supports remote file transfer like PCAnywhere.. I have never messed with gotomypc or LogMeIn to know if htey support it or not.. But I say just set up an ftp server to make things easy on yourself -
are you trying to log on to the domain or create a VPN connection. where and when are you getting this error message?

to list the computers in the domain/workgroup net view to copy from one pc to a remote pc copy xcopy

not gonna happen.. VMware installs device drivers that is uses to run. There are a ton of registry settings and files in the system folders that it creates. You will not be able to get around this unless you create a script similar to the installer that will create all the necessary registry entries and copy all the necessary shared dll's to the correct location. Without trying it.. I would say it is most likely not possible. Even without the device drivers(which i think would be your biggest problem) there are still too many shared dll's and registry settings. It's like taking Office 2003 and just copying the program files directory to the external HD and trying to run them on another pc.. its not gonna work that way.

Your system should not become unstable after turning OFF system restore.. if anything it should make it faster. This coming from a person who is writing to you from a w2k3 server converted as a workstation. . What kinda problems are you running into .. maybe we could help you with your problems.

I just started lookin online for the latest and greatest in terms of proxy and what not.. one thing I came across is squid for windows.. you still have to fool around with .conf files but the setup is soooooo simple and it works pretty well so far with default installation. Just thought I would add that to it since you arent too familar with *nix and squid is a very good proxy server.. this gives you the best of both worlds http://www.acmeconsulting.it/pagine/openso...uid/SquidNT.htm

mine does the same thing however I am not running into any problems. Are you running into any dns problems?

Sticking with strictly windows.. There is a full featured email server called mailenable located here http://www.mailenable.com/ that is actually free.. basically the free version means you ONLY get pop mail.. the professional version you get a web interface to view the mail. I have used this in a few places that dont want exchange but want an internal mail server. As for the proxy server still sticking windows.. CC-Proxy will support webcache proxy and is also fairly cheap. Both of these I have installed before.. fairly simple and straight forward and so far.. no major complaints. (every system has their bugs) If you are familiar with Linux.. you can download the OS for free and you can use sendmail (http://www.sendmail.org/)as your mail server(built in to most distros) and you can also use squid (http://www.squid-cache.org/) as the proxy server(built into some distros.. downloadable freely otherwise) This requires a bit more linux knowledge as the interfaces are not helpful to people use to windows. Once again. I have implemented these also with no major complaints to date. Hope this helps

Wirless network 999999x slower than hardline
chilifrei64 replied to pthomas's topic in Networks and the Internet
is the server plugged directly into the switch or is that wireless also... this would be a HUGE problem.. you also might want to downgrade from 54/g to 11/b that way you arent maxing the bandwidth of the wireless access point. besides.. 8 is just about the max I would want on a wireless network.. I think they say 10 or 11 clients is the max.. but this is for internet sharing.. not network lan traffic -
Migrating from 2000 Server to 2003 Server
chilifrei64 replied to kmfrench's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
It is actually quite simple.. just did one the other day.. you pretty much got all the information.. pending your network setup.. you didnt specify how complex your network was and what is contained on this old server. The one I just did was simply a DC which acted as a file store and backup device and served DHCP, DNS and Wins for legacy clients. I installed the new server on the new hardware, promoted it to domain controller Removed FSMO Roles from old server to new server Made new server Global Catalog configured Wins and DNS and DHCP. replicated wins and DNS information from old machine turned off dhcp on old machine Copied over files(luckily they didnt have a complex file structure) recreated the shares.... I left the old server up for about a day later just to make sure it replicated everything it was going to demoted the old server, uninstalled DNS uninstalled wins, turned computer off... I did this about 2 weeks ago and I am yet to get a call to come out and fix anything.. now.. what I did was a a fairly simple network.. if you have multiple sites or some crazy setup or a SBS server.. then we got more to talk about -
yeah.. go with intel.. if you do enough searchin.. you can find intel for far under 100 dollars http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...=876203&CatId=0

definately go with atleast an internal mail server. Then, get a proxy server to cache web pages so to them.. the internet is faster and you are still keeping your internet bandwidth and this helps keep everyone happy. Now.. you say 20 nodes and a win2k3 server... would that happen to be SBS server....?wouldnt that be convient if you used exchange with the pop3 connector for their external mail(if they use 3rd party mail(msn, hotmail, yahoo)) and you would also get ISA 2004 which is a proxy server and yeah. I dont know what a fractional T1 cost out there.. but over 100,000 dollars sounds waayyyyy too expensive. however.. I dont know what is available out where you live.. bandwidth might be at a minimum where you live. but still 100,000 sound way too expensive.. heck.. if i has about 6,000 dollars worth of equipment at my house.. i could set up a few asynchroneous 56k dialup lines and give you twice the bandwidth you got now for much less. ... not sure what your situation is like... but somebodys gotta have a better price than 100,000 for 512k

What application are you trying to install? when you type echo %userprofile%\recent from the command prompt.. what does it return?
-
To my knowledge.. and someone correct me if I am wrong.. but windows knows if it is usb storage and it will not allow you to make a dynamic disk if it is connected via usb. That would be cool if they did allow it though.. Imagine 2 512 usb drives raided as a portable raid swap for slower computers..

I would start scanning for viruses. update to the latest virus definitions with whoever you go through and run a full system scan
