Bought Dell with XP HOME want to Upgrade to XP PRO
chilifrei64 replied to hothouse_57's topic in Windows XP
you can buy the upgrade.. -
If the disk is in its original packaging with the COA and is NOT an OEM version.. then there isnt anything wrong with it... if it is a burned CD and you dont have the COA.... then it is illegal
-

windows 2003 terminal server license
chilifrei64 replied to alfabeta's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
2k3 licenses are defaulted to per PC.. MS now offeres licenses per user which needs to be specified in the terminal service connection propertied which type it is going to use.. It will start off by requesting the temporary license.. once the 60 or 90 days( I cant remember) are up... it will give out its first regular license.. Kinda a silly setup but that is how they do it.. I went through the same frustrations about 2 years ago.. I didnt understand it myself -
Correct.. you have lost your dhcp server.. one thing to keep in mind.. if DNS isnt working on the SBS it will not automatically query the second DNS server.. only if the first one either doesnt respond on the network or the DNS Server service is stopped.. Just to make sure I am clear.. IF DNS is running the clients wont query the second dns server becasue the first dns server responded with a " i dont know" response.. therefore giving the computer its answer.. But yea..you will want to configure a second DHCP server as well with seperate scopes.

eh.. not so much.. using the SecureClean.. i was able to recover my old emails.. a pst is kinda like a hard drive.. when you delete something .. the pst doesnt get smaller unless you compact it.. so if it never gets compacted then the free space is still there and you can retreive the emails from that space as long as that space is still there.. So dont lose hope.. it may still be possible.. Best of luck

to make this work.. you need a couple of things one computer with the tape backup device(or backup to disk) central "backup server" this is where all your data is going to be backed up to all your remote computers will need the remote agent.. you may have to configure credentials for your backup selections on the remote computers if you are not on a domain.. now that i think of it.. this is really all you should need.... in the backup job you can specify resource credentials for each selection you make.. my guess is since this is peer to peer.. this is where it is failing

boot to either BartPE or any other boot disk or the recovery console and run chkdsk c: /f /r this should recover the files for you.. once you get that done.. boot back to windows and save everything.. to another drive.. It is not the SP that is doing this.. just disk intensive tasks (extracting a service pack) Your hard drive is bad... If it runs chkdsk once.. no big deal.. it it does it twice on 2 reboots and finds more files again.. your disk is most likely bad.

A couple things come to mind.. have you tried a google search and tried any of these programs. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=recover+deleted+emails I have used this program once successfully.. http://www.filecart.com/details/14289/SecureClean.php and outlook 2003 had built in deleted items recovery.. tools -> Recover deleted items

he is talking about the termsrv.dll version like 2550 or something like that used in a RC of XP SP2. If you replace this dll it will allow for a user to log on via Remote Desktop without loggin on the console user and to answer the question.. no.. not unless you use like VNC or some variation of this sorta thing. The dll is fine though.. even though it is an older version.. it is only used for the one specific function and should not effect anything else on the computer

Just about all of the generic 5 port switches you buy at best buy are going to get you the same performance. A really good one (i know it isnt 5 port) but it is almost the same price if you wait for discounts is the dell 2216.. it is 69 regular and I have seen it under 50 bucks.. but honestly.. 3 computers and a server, you wont see much of a performance problem

I ran the same vb script.. and this solved the problem for me..

I would obviously test before I deploy, however.. as far as useful.. it takes far less to install updates.. and it gets your computer up to the lateset patch level.. I would check here for more problems with it http://support.microsoft.com/kb/891861 If your really worried, Install it thursday night.. that way people have all day friday to come up with problems and you have all weekend to fix..

In outlook you will have to add another account with the smtp server for the other domain and have them select it when they send an email... Unless you can get the other domains to allow you to relay messages through them.. you probably wont get this to work.
-
This is done in the web page code.. it the page loads and it calls focus to a specific text box or button.. I am pretty sure you cannot over ride this on the browser side
-
a couple of things might be the problem here.. 1) are you an administrator on this machine 2) is this machine part of a domain that has a policy set for it 3) when you installed McAfee... it disabled the firewall services and starts its own firewall services 4) are the services started (windows Firewall/internet connection sharing service)

I am using 2k3 as a workstation and it detects my digital camera.. I just connect it via the usb port and it sees it as removable storage.

partition magic shows partition type as "other", w
chilifrei64 replied to someuser77's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
data will be lost if you do it the conventional way. you will need to back up the data then change it back to basic.. There is a way to convert it back using diskprobe.. do a quick search.. the information is everywhere and I myself have done it before... and yes it is just as simple as changing it from a 42(i think) to a 47 (or the other way around) something like that. Keep in mind.. I am not going to gaurentee that you wont possibly loose all your data. There is always a chance.. so make sure you have a back up either way -
GROUP POLICY not working. New domain setup
chilifrei64 replied to adzza's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
No domain users is not a default OU.. since the domain was domain.local.. the OU was domain users.. as if the domain was msfn.local the OU would of been msfn users. I knew I didnt make myself too clear on this one.. I figured I would jsut wait for your response Your AD structure is good for GP Deployment, I myself do not recommend adding GP's on the very top of the structure. Doing it the way you have it is fine.. Basically what I am trying to say is you cannot apply the Group Policy to a group within an OU.. You need to apply the GP to a user or computer in an OU... You can use Groups for security filtering but the group policy must be placed on or above the OU where the user is located and NOT the OU of the group that the user is a part of.. Example.. I will normally do something like this danfrei.com ----- All Default Folders -----danfrei.com -------Users ---------Management ---------Reception ---------Tech -------Group ---------Security Groups ---------Distribution Groups -------Computers ---------Workstations ---------Laptops ---------Servers -----------Domain Controllers -----------Member Servers This is a scaled down version.. I like to do it this way.. it removes the possibility of affecting default windows Users or Groups. Within my structure.. ALL groups are located in my Groups OU under their specific type. Any GPO's applied to the Group OU will not apply because there are no users in the Group OU.. Just groups.. and a GPO will not apply to a group. Now.. say I wanted to apply a No access to command prompt GP to my users.. I would create a group called NO_CMD and I would add my users I didnt want to have access to this group. I could then apply it to the users OU but use security filtering and remove authenticated users and add my NO_CMD Group. I hope this makes a little more sense -
Print server with IPX, no TCP/IP
chilifrei64 replied to I_Broke_My_MHZ's topic in Networks and the Internet
Yes.. download and install the HP Jet Admin utility for installing network printers. It will search via the network protocols available on your machine.. If you have IPX/SPX.. it will search the network with this protocol for printers.. it will find your printer and it will install the rest
