  1. get the disk from the person who has it since you are the owner of it now.
  2. System Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\ Explorer] Value Name: NoLowDiskSpaceChecks Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value) Value Data: (0 = default, 1 = disable messages)
  3. Its been about a year and a half since my last exchange 5.5 to 2003 migration... but if I can remember correctly.. all the 2000 or XP machines with either Office 2000 Office XP or Office 2003, they changed the settings automatically.. That is.. pending you have both servers running at the same time.. The client will look to srv1 for the mailbox.. srv1 will know that that mailbox is stored on srv2 and will transfer it to it and outlook will reconfigure the settings.. Weather or not this is the case.. I neither imported new registry settings or wiped out an outlook profile(i think I would have remembered 300 pc's or so) I has a few problematic ones but those were mainly windows 98 machines The other thing you can do is use the resource kit for office 2003 and use the license for Outlook 2003 that comes with Exchange 2003.. deploy Outlook 2003 to all clients with a customized outlook profile. This way everybody is on outlook 2003 and can take advantage of some of the advanced features. If I had to do it all over again this is what I would do.. I ended up doing it later anyways and had no problems(except for the people who had their delivery location as a pst file instead of their exchange mailbox)
  4. No problem whatsoever. I actually have a client that REQUIRES MS Access 2000 and they run almost entirely XP Pro. Some even still have the complete version of Office 2000 on them and it is running without a hitch
  5. With that last screen.. all it is doing is giving you the run path. Those parameters are not embedded into the mst file. Just copy and paste the text and change it to what you want when you run it.
  6. Have you tried File -> open -> Outlook data file ???
  7. An adm file is a registry file. You can not delete parts of the registry with a registry file, only edit its contents. What parts of the registry are you trying to delete? Have you explored the "reg delete" command and run that as a logon script?
  8. Gmail uses TLS for smtp communications. Just out of curiosity.. try using port 587 for smtp and see if that works. I tried it on mine and it works:-) I know it sounds weird and I am not 100% where I came up with it but it does work.
  9. Try and check the C:\Windows\Windows Update.log and see if it has any information in there.. Also try sfc.exe /scannow as cluberti stated also try re-registering windows update files REGSVR32 C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuapi.dll REGSVR32 C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuauclt.exe REGSVR32 C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuaueng.dll REGSVR32 C:\WINDOWS\system32\atl.dll REGSVR32 C:\WINDOWS\system32\wucltui.dll REGSVR32 C:\WINDOWS\system32\wups.dll The only other thing I can think of is to get us more information about this other than an event ID and we can give you more information
  10. A clean boot.. as it may be the fix all.. is not always the first option. I would first try and run sfc.exe /scannow to replace system files with the correct versions. Also make sure that the secondary logon services is set to automatic.
  11. Did you install MSN Messenger.. Worse case scenario.. go to tools preferences and uncheck load when windows starts.. I uninstall it from add/remove components every time i get a new machine from dell for my clients and it never comes back.. try it again.
  12. add/remove programs -> add/remove components. unselect the windows messenger box and hit next
  13. MSconfig does not remove items from services.. are you looking to remove the service or remove the ability to see the service
  14. Make sure they are in the same workgroup and have identical usernames and passwords on each machine.
  15. Outlook webaccess is setup by default and enabled by default when Exchange is installed. you will just need to forward port 80 from your firewall to your server running Exchange.
  16. export to csv, email to user, import csv, accept all defaults when doing this
  17. yeah.. you will need to do 2 accounts.. gamehead is absolutely correct
  18. yeah.. definately a software issue..
  19. maybe it was the setting changer gnomes Either that or you have a little brother or sister...
  20. The best way to do it it make sure your domain controller is NOT also the connection to the internet.. It should be behind a firewall. On the lan side.. you dont need a firewall and depending on how much time you have would dictate weather or not you put one on. The LAN, for teh most part is secure and doesnt need a firewall. Limiting communications to the lan on your DC can cause other problems.. all of which can be worked around but once again.. that depends on how much time you have As far as AV goes. I personally like symantec corp 10. works great and has the realtime scan. As far as best GP config.. GP is normally used to tailor the configuration to your network. Instead of GP, keep your server up to date and dont use it. if it is not exploitable(all holes patched) and there is nobody to download spyware on it.. then you shouldnt have a problem with it
  21. anything in the event logs on the pc or the server?
  22. not available under local policy... sorry
  23. Format it on an already installed machine then take it out and stuff it into machine you are installing.. it it sees a blank useable partition.. it shouldnt want to format.... It has been a while with W2k.. unsure as to if this is true or not
  24. Why not use group policy and define what the services action is (auto, manual, disabled) If you set it in the policy.. all options are greyed out and you cant start/stop the services.. it will only do what Group Policy says to do.
  25. whenever I have ran into an instance like this, i just remove it anyways.. Cause if it stops an app from autorunning i will just make it autorun again anyways.
