  1. Make sure your dns servers on the client pc are pointing to your internal active directory dns server and NOT an external dns server.
  2. If your domain name uses a non-public dns suffix then you will need to change the recipient policy under the ESM MMC to reflect the public dns address and set it as primary Also another thing is to configure real time black listing through spamhaus.org or another provider. Other than those 2, I dont normally configure much more be default Other things you could do would be configuring ssl for authentication pop3 connectors to retreive external mail create an installation package of outlook 2003 to autoconfigure all settings for the user the first time they open outlook
  3. yeah you can disable it via group policy Start - Run - type gpedit.msc (not available in Windows XP Home Edition). Go to User Configuration - Administrative Templates - Windows Explorer. Look for "Remove CD Burning Features" and double click on it. Choose ENABLED and apply. Force the group policy to update on the clients pc (gpupdate /force) or reboot the computer
  4. You could use the termsrv.dll from build 2055 of SP2 to allow a second connection to the pc without booting off the other person.. otherwise if you are just trying to get some files off look into an ftp client of somesort
  5. yes.. most likely things havent replicated and this may be a problem with the recipient update policy. open the user account in active directory users and computers and select the email tab. Make sure that that gets populated via the recipient update policy. If nothing shows in here.. you will have the problem you are experiencing
  6. 2 things.. Make sure your IUSR_servername has permissions to read the documents you are trying to browse.. Also, ensure there are no IP Address restrictions for the website or directory
  7. do you have it going through smpt's normal port or the smtp ssl port 465?
  8. the sus server only stores the updates not hosts the pages.. windows update will come from ms but because you changed the policy.. your machine now knows where to grab the content from
  9. Have you installed terminal server licensins on the SBS via add remove components.. once you install that you need to open up the licensing management mmc and add your licenses.. Let me know if we have made it this far before i go into further detail
  10. well you can do 3 routes here.. Route 1: More expensive but better: Use a site to site vpn to connect your remote locations. This will require a VPN conecntrator at each branch.. preferably the same type unless you know enough about VPN's. Or if your ISP offers managed VPN which i think is what you are getting at. Doing things this way may spill the need for more stuff (ie: a domain controller at each branch (which then would mean you need to migrate from SBS) incase the link goes down you need a GC at each branch to process logon requests.. and I am sure a plethora of other things without knowing much about your topology Method 2: prolly the same cost but your server topology could stay the same.. as oppsed to running a managed VPN.. see what your ISP has available in the form of a frame relay circuit. This removes the need for the VPN concentrators but you still pay a fee for the "Dedicated Circuit" Method 3: Terminal Server. As this is the perfect example where terminal servers are sooo valuable. When configured properly, terminal servers are by no means a security risk. This offers you access to the remote system as if you are there and the hardware cost and monthly fee is far less than dedicated or site to site VPN connections. Here is my opinion on Terminal Servers though.. If you are going to do it.. do it right.. setting up a terminal server to save money can cause you problems.. be sure you purchase hardware that is sufficient enough to support your current users plus 50% more.. this allow you to save room for future additional users AND(and this is why I say 50% more) for upgrading software.. Software requirements are getting higher and higher and where a server that is mildly powerfull now.. may not be as powerfull when you add the next version of office(more resources) the next versions of Adobe Acrobat/Reader(more resources) addition software as the company expands (network fax/scan/phone) Antivirus (Symantec 7.5 takes far less resources than the 20 services 10.0 installs).. i think you catch my drift.. add all these higher software requirements in addition to 25 more users. you have yourself a really slow machine and everybody is unhappy with the slowness.. To make matters worse.. if you dont do it right and dont build in some redundancy... .if it goes down for one user.. chances are your whole company goes down. My opinion is either a dedicated frame relay or a site to site VPN using cisco PIX devices
  11. You need to download and install the certificate from their CA's enrollment webpage in order to stop seeing this message. You must open this webpage with IE becasuse that is what Outlook uses.
  12. does this happen to everybody that you send it to.. the reason I ask is because if you send an email from outlook that was created in HTML format and the person you send it to has their email client configured to not display html content.. they will see duplicated links
  13. you can create a one way trust and then you would use the ADMT2 tool from MS http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326480
  14. yeah.. most likely spyware.. that is why your gettin popups. and that is prolly why you are havin problems
  15. if policies permit. yes.. from inside internet explorer go to tools -> internet options -> connections -> lan settings and uncheck the box that says use proxy.. now... if your network is configured to use the proxy server as the only way out to the internet.. you will be out of luck
  16. A good start to an answer would be to not only let us know when and how this happens, but what application is causing it and what operating system and service pack you are running.. Off hand it looks like an error I used to get with a crappy piece of home grown software I used to test and an sql error
  17. yes... connect a crossover cable from the Dlink to a lan port on the linksys and you will be all set
  18. Outlook uses your internet connection properties to get pop mail. Most likely, your proxy is filtering the ssl smtp. Proxy's sometimes have that effect
  19. It is not the screen resolution that zooms in.. it is the application... but it only happens when i switch to the projector display. If you open MS word you can see the view percentage.. normally defaults to like 75%.. when I flip to the projector that number goes up to 500%.
  20. the output resolution doesnt change.. the In MS Excel/word/Powerpoint it zooms the view in there.. and in internet explorer it increases the font size Anybody have any idea what ATI programs that rjz is talking about
  21. Here is my problem... The president of a company I whose network I manage was trying to get a powerpoint presentation to work on a projector. He spent about a half an hour trying to get it to work.. tried another computer.. that didnt work.. then tried a computer with a NVidia video card and finally got it working. Basically what is happening is when you switch the display to the projector using the crt/lcd button on the laptop, the powerpoint presentation instantly starts flickering and the zoom goes all the way up to 500% For my testing... i tried this with Excel and Word and both do the same.. it auto zooms to 500 percent and the screen keeps flickering. Even my text in internet explorer increased in size. The specs are: Dell Latitude D810 1gb memory Office 2003 Radeon X600 with latest driver from thier website.. dont remember the version number but I just downloaded it today. Now.. on another laptop by toshiba but still with an ATI card, 1gb memory and office 2003.. i received the same results On an Nvidia GeForce 4 Go 420 in another dell laptop with 512 mb memory and office 2003.. i dont get this problem. This seems absolutely crazy to me.. does anybody have any ideas..
  22. If I am understanding you correctly windows media player will do this.. right click on the taskbar and choose toolbars then choose winodws media player
  23. Install CMAK on the server (add remove components) then run the utility and configure the connection in the end it will create an executable that will create the dialup connection.
  24. eyeball is correct.. yes you can connect them and use them as a default gateway.. however you will not get any performance gain in your network speed... you are only as good as your weekest link.. which in this case.. is your local network connection
  25. yes you can safely have the other machine a GC.. this will take care of your problem
