Netgear Router Blocking Site's............
chilifrei64 replied to the-dogs-nutts's topic in Networks and the Internet
easiest way is via a proxy server. from inside IE tools -> internet options -> Connections -> Lan settings -> use proxy server fill in the fields with the information here with one of the addresses/ports from this site http://www.atomintersoft.com/products/aliv...high-anonymity/ the only other way I can think of would be to beat up the IT guy -
This should probably be under a different topic as it does not have anything to do with MS Office Applications but to answer your question. run the second dhcp server with a seperate scope of addresses so that there is no conflict between the 2

windows 2000 display drivers for acer aspire 1511LC
chilifrei64 replied to kandurak's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
I have never heard of a GeForce 4 448 but the Nvidia GeForce Platform uses a Unified Driver Architecture.. meaning kinda something like one driver fits all.. http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_81.85.html -
Go to your lan adapter properties and go to the advanced tab. Select internet connection sharing

Interesting this gets brought up as I start kinda running into these lag probems also.. I just recently started ripping all my cd's onto my computer... I have approached the 20gig mark of music. All my music is stored on a Windows 2003 Standard Server on a RAID 5 drive. Before I started importing all my CD's iTunes was great.. it was fast.. no lag and worked great over the network. Now that I am at/near 20 gigs.. I too am experiencing a great deal of lag like snively is. I have tried to completely recreate my library but it still lags.. Is this just too much music or do you have roughly the same amount/more music and not experiencing this lag?

Your question was answered.. Jeremy was just giving insight because you didnt specify you had 2 seperate hard drives. you replied and still didnt specify you had 2 hard drives and I clarified what Jeremy said. You then mentioned that you had 2 hard drives.. that is good.. that is the way it should be as Zxian said.. so you are good. As for the poo poo on your optimizations.. we were mearly giving insight to your optimizations to try and help you out but we did not have all the information necessary to give the proper insight and as far as your p*n*s goes.. that was completely unnecessary.

Thanks guys.. I just didnt feel like getting into this last night... It was gettin late.

legitimate beta testers I would assume have legitimate operating systems. Since it is a beta and you would only really be testing it.. download a trial version of Windows and install it on there
-
actually he is right... yes you are gaining a little performance because it is at the begining of the disk.. you are still sharing read/writes with the other partition.. In theory.. it may be faster.. but not fast enough to make a difference with anything.. Now.. having a SEPERATE 2gig disk. you are no longer sharing read/writes and gaining performance
-
without knowing what your configuration is.. under most cases this is the probem.. you probably have a default gateway configured on both nic's... remove the default gateway from the lan nic and leave the default gateway on the nic that is connected to the ADSL router

A repair installation is not necessary.. I run into this alot when cleaning pc's infected with spyware. This will stop the "Setup has detected a newer version of Internet Explorer already installed on this system. Setup cannot continue." error start run regedit Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383} Change the Dword Value for "IsInstalled" FROM 1 TO 0 (This will make Windows think Internet Explorer 6 is not installed) exit registry editor Let this complete Once this is done re-run your installation
-
The other think you can do is with the administrative install. you can create a custom mst file to create a local installation source using the okr.exe

get a legit version of windows so it can be validated.

agreed... I have done point to points with sonicwalls, checkpoints, ISA's and other firewall.. even let the isp control it.... and PIX wins them all.

the 506e are nice but unless you are talkin more than 400 pc's between the 2 sites or 25+ client vpn connections.. the 501e will do just fine.. those can be found between 450 and 600 dollars. As far as dhcp goes.. it is not that it would travel over but.. hmm how to explain this site 1 would be on 1 subnet 10.1.x.x/16 site 2 would be on another subnet 10.2.x.x/16 you would have a site to site vpn with the 2 cisco pix's.. each pix is going to have a route to the other subnet and when site 1 requests information from site 2, the site 1 pix would just route the data through the vpn tunnel. There would have to be DHCP at both site.. and if you want.. dhcp can be configured on the pix. As for the clients logging on remotely(not at either site) you would then have to configure the pix for those type of connections. The article i posted shows how to do this to. If a large amount of data is going to be flowing across this site to site vpn, I would probably say to use your Windows server to do the site to site and run some sorta file replication service between the 2 sites. My recommendation would be still use the 2 PIX's for site to site and run file replication services between the 2 sites using Windows DFS. I set this up between a 4 site vpn. worked wonders.. it was beautiful. But not every company has money like this one did.

or you could just use your own CA to produce the certificate. http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/SSL_En...g_OWA_2003.html

To answer your first question. Yes windows RRAS is good enough to get VPN access. Really RRAS setup is pretty simple.. when you configure it you go through a wizard and that will take care of the general stuff for getting you connected. I do recommend having 2 nic's when trying to set up a your windows server for remote access. I like to have one nic for the lan and the other nic for RRAS requests as opposed to having that virtual adapter that gets created. What you would do to get the computers to log on would be set up a vpn connection under that username to connect to your vpn server. The when you get ready to log in you check the box that says log on using Dial up networking. (keep in mind that a network connection is required) This will allow the user to log in to his computer, authenticate to the domain and run any login script or new policies when they log in. As far as your remote office goes.. my new recommendation (since you dont want a server at the other side) completely nullifies my first statement What you want here is a site to site vpn. This can be done with a firewall at each branch.. to make things easier.. make sure you use 2 of the same kind of firewalls or a great deal of knowledge about VPN's. This will allow both locations to act as if they were connected locally. Not having a server at the other side though means any file transfers will be really slow. You can configure the firewalls to accept client vpn connections also. Depending on the firewall you purchase..then you would just have to add routes in your acl's for proper network access. I dont have any links for ya other than this one here for site to site.. but like I said.. RRAS really is pretty easy to follow and setup http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/pr...onfig/index.htm

The only difference between the 2 operating systems is one supports 32bit and the other supports 32 and 64bit. As far as added functionality from one to the other.. there is none..
-
If you are running a large SQL database and the DB program supports the 64bit architecture then go with 64 otherwise I would say just stick with 32. There arent enough 64bit apps out there (and 32bit apps that are compatible on 64) for me to go for it yet

Then you will have to order new media from the supplier you purchased the VLK from.

move it to a different partition, defrag your drive to increase your contiguous then move it back and defrag again. are you having a problem defraging because you dont have alot of space or because it is in use and you cant defrag it? -

And here is a script that I run as a scheduled task every night. It is a vb script that defrags all of your hard drives. Courtesy of dougknox.com/ http://dougknox.com/utility/scripts/defrag_all2.vbs
