  5. I have Nero 6 and have never tried using it on DL DVD. However I have sucessfully used DVD shrink to shring a 12 gb movie to fit on a DL DVD, by backing it up to an *.iso and then using DVD Decrypter. I just went to after down and came up with this link below. Apparently Nero 6 DOES burn DL from what they say. Good Luck and let us know. http://www.afterdawn.com/news/archive/6117.cfm jd
  6. Yeah, Just like what Micron has been doing for the last few years. Buy everything up. jd
  7. For the board. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList....=&maxPrice= For the CPU http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList....=&maxPrice= jd
  8. They don't necessarily have to be leaking. Check the caps for "BULGING" primarily at the top. If you see that they look like they are bulging, then you have some bad caps. Had this happen on my KA7-100, talk about a pain just finding the caps. Had to order them from Digi-Key. I'll see if I can't find the picture of them and post it here. Here's a link to some pics at the badcaps.net site. Mine were worse than what shows in the photo's http://www.badcaps.net/ident/ jd
  9. TAin, Thanks man. Sunbird looks promising. Will also be trying the Evolution package too. Thanks Again jd
  10. DUDE, CHILL out. There has been SO MUCH BASHING of ALL OS systems EVER produced by MS. There's even been BASHING of Linux on here, not to mention the DEBATE between Firefox and IE.. OMG this place is getting toooooooooooo SERIOUS. And I am NOT trying to START a FREAKIN PI**ING contest here either. jd
  11. And that's great for people who will want to go with Vista MC. 12. Great link TAiN!! Definately going to try this. As a T-Bird user, the calender function will be a nice addition with getting everything else included. How well does this setup on a home network with having all user folders on a file server? I'd seen Evolution with some of the Linux distro's I've been checking, but never really got involved with it. Thanks Again
  13. Ghost is the ONLY way to go. Been using it almost as long as Andromeda. Have never had any problems with it cloning anything from Dos partitions to XP. Very easy to use and reliable, the way ALL software should be. Hey Andromeda care to share your boot minus the ghost.exe?? jd
  14. Did you get the right config file from Speedfan?? Just wondering as I had a similiar problem with my NF7 board. Grabbed a version not for my particuliar NF7. jd
  15. Could be you have a SOFT based raid. I do remember that during my search for diagnostic utilities for raid thast I came across a site where they had raid cards catagorized by type. Meaning some Raid cards are really no different than the software raid you can get with W2K or XP. The higher end models $200 to whatever did have onboard diagnostics. Basically there are two types of raid cards. 1. LOW end that emulates the same as software raid and 2. HIGH end which have microprocessors (RISC processor), bios and other goodies. Myself, my raid is an onboard Highpoint 370 ATA-100 (CHEAP). I will look for that link regarding the differences and post as soon as I find it. In the meantime below are a couple of links to show the difference. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList....Subcategory=410 Hope this helps. jd Here are a couple that describe the difference. http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,1977005,00.asp http://www.dell.com/content/topics/global....;l=en&s=biz
  16. THANK YOU Bezalel!!!!! This whole licensing thing is CRAPOLA big time. You can get the **** OEM version online as I posted a link a few days ago. I can even get it from my local PC store, and have even asked the question whether or not it was legal. One store whom the techs there I have known for many years say YES it is still OK. As a matter of fact the other day when I was there they were ordering OEM's from their MS rep. They even have it on thier store shelves. So WTF is going on?? jd Here's the link http://www.google.com/search?q=xp+pro+oem&...:en-US:official
  17. You forgot the Atari 2600 game cartridges jd
  18. Had a simliar problem with my raid drives also. Diagnostics would show all drives OK. This was using the seagate and maxtor software along with other utilities. The thing is, raid drives are treated as ONE drive only using the diagnostic software. After I backed up my raid, broke the raid config and ran the diagnostics I found the problem. The sound I had was that of a crunching soda/beer can. And to make it worse it was VERY random. I sat for an hour one day using a screwdriver with the point on the drive and handle to my ear listening for noises. Never came until 10 minutes after listening for an hour. So if your drive noise is happening ALL the time or VERY frequent you might be able to depict which drive is causing the problems by using a screwdriver or similiar tool placed on the HD case. The screwdriver works like a stethoscope. Learned this many moons ago as a mechanic. jd
  19. It's one of those status symbols. You know the people who drive 4 wheel drive vehicles but never take them off road. Hey man ya get the latest office??? Ya don't ya just get a woody when the animations HOG the processor speed, gives me time to go to the watering hole. Well for me until XP runs it's course will give me plenty of time to look elsewhere. Who knows maybe Dos 6.22 with 95 jd
  20. Glad to hear it. Did that low level tool help?? It appears from what I can see that Toshiba does not want people to Low Level their drives which to me sounds a little ignorant to me. If I can't do want i want with my hardware it has a meeting with a 5lb. sledge and sent back to the manf. with a note. jd
  21. In case you didn't have it here's the specs on your Toshiba. http://www.sdd.toshiba.com/main.aspx?Path=...000659c00001554 Here's a free tool that supposedly works for low level format. http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Hard-D...rmat-Tool.shtml jd
  22. Sorry but YOU even stated ILLEGAL. Again this is not disscussed HERE!! jd
  23. I have not installed vista yet as not sure if I want to after reading all this. I do agree with fizban and gsm though that if there's problems they need to be documented. Just havin a B**CH session on a board ain't going to resolve the problems, as Billy Boy and Micros*&T don't care. They are running for the guess what "Bottom Line". Vista if ALL the bugs and problems were resolved would probly take another 2 years before releasing a STABLE platform. By than MS would be losing money. So thier way of thought has always been let's dump it to the public and we'll patch it from there. It has happened with every OS system they have developed. Yes I use MS products 98% of the time only because of work environment. I think it really might be a wise idea to put a list of problems in a sticky and ONLY problems can be documented there. Track this beast known as vista and see if MS will do anything, probly not. But then we would have all problems from the people who are testing it and it would be well documented. Shall we create a poll for how many weeks from the release of vista until the first patch?? I think in my opinion the best OS ever designed was the are you ready for this "Amiga OS". It was NOT bloat ware and was REALLY hard to break things. And yes I still have my original C=64 too Along with my 2 A-500, 1 A-1000, and 3 A-2000 machines. Just my .02¢ jd
  24. Ya, but there have been some problems with them watching and recording at the same time. I myself am looking at getting another 250 and put that next to the one I have and I'll have the same thing. jd
  25. If you can spend some money and get the Hauppauge pvr-250. These have a great performance track, not to mention they are hardware based encoders. The KWorld http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16815116616 I have tried some of the ATI, Kworld, (and others like the Kworld) Pinnicle. The best one I have found was the PVR-250. I have had my HTPC system up and running since 2002 and have had no problems with quality issues. If you decide to go with a Hauppauge card here's a couple of links for tweaks. http://www.shspvr.com/ http://www.cask-of-amontillado.com/htpc.html Good Luck jd
