  1. midiboy, Thanks, I tried that and it did not work the first time. There was no mention of having to copy the setup.iss file to 2 locations. What I mean is when the BASE File is extracted it creates 2 setup. iss files and I had to copy them both to the location but it works YAY. The extracted install directory. Purevideo---Has all base install files | MCE---Has additional install files Setup.iss after entering Name, E-mail, ID, and activation using your setup.iss was great. for some reason this package does not temporily install to the Windows or Winnt folder instead it dumps it to the current user/local settings/temp folder. The thing is you need to copy the .iss file to the MCE folder also in order to make this a FULL uA install. Anyway it WORKS and that's the main thing. Thanks John
  2. Hey everyone. Been working on my uA programs for the Home Theatre PC, and I can't seem to nail the Purevideo. It's an Installshield installation and everything I have tried, Purevideo continues to come up with a registration box. I am a REGISTERED owner and have paid for the software. I would just like to know how to do a silent install with all the registration stuff. I have extracted the main file and have done everything listed in the forums and in the tutorials. Thanks John
  3. I think I will now go to the corner with the DUNCE cap!!! SLAPS SELF Many TIMES!!! Thanks Bashrat testing it now. jd AT MYSELF
  4. Basharat, That is how I have it. I zipped it with 7zip and if I could upload the file I would but it is 270KB and the board wont let me do it. The 7zip file structure is just like I posted above in the original post. After the 7zip process the structure is Filename= D.7z, Inside this is the folder structure. Thanks jd
  5. OK, I'm not having any problems with the main pack. Works BEAUTIFUL!! GOOD JOB Basharat. I am trying to get this particular driver installed with in the driver packs and can't seem to get it slipstreamed. I have followed the tutorial on the wiki to the letter, have copied what was in the .inf file for [sourceDisksFiles]. Have 7zip them again following the tutorial and still cannot get them to integrate into the slipstream. Here's the folder structure. D | TV_Tune | PVR250 | Drivers installed and .inf file here, within the PVR250 folder Everything slipstreams but this So what am I missing??? Thanks jd
  6. That is just tooooooo MUCH. Seriously though, I am not POKING fun at Canadians. Americans have had thier misfortunes too. But it's still FUNNY!!!!!! jd
  7. Hey All Here's my problem. I have 2 Seagate 300GB Barracuda 7200.8 drives. Apparently one of them is acting up, as This morning the box was giving the Windows Write Delayed Failed notice. I tried pulling the data off the drive onto another and kept getting messages File Not Found. So I thought what the hell, everything is backed up so I will reboot. OK no problem there. Raid Bios screen came up wanting to either duplicate or continue to boot. I picked Duplicate. If one of these drives are failing, how do I find it? I had this same problem a year ago with Maxtor drives after running 2 years, and Maxtor said there was no way to check drive condition with any drive tools while in raid. They informed me that each drive would have to be checked individually. OK did that but both drives came up good even when connected Primary and Slave. Put them back into Raid and one of them 2 days later had a HARD FAIL. That's when I got the seagates as they have a 5 year warranty and are quieter. I GOOGED for raid tools but couldn't find any. Highpoints Raid Deskmanager apparently is not that good as while I was still within Windows, I checked the status and it showed all was well. The Storage Box Specs. 512Megs Crucial Ram AMD Slot A 750MHz OCed to 900MHz Abit KA7-100 onboard Raid Paltrudes Bios (GOOD STUFF) OLD, OLD Video Card (NO NAME) But hey it works, Shows up in Device manager as Savage 8meg Fortron 400W PSU Windows 2000 Pro Thanks jd
  8. Dude, Commercial meaning. com·mer·cial Audio pronunciation of "commercial" ( P ) Pronunciation Key (k-mûrshl) adj. 1. 1. Of or relating to commerce: a commercial loan; a commercial attaché. 2. Engaged in commerce: a commercial trucker. 3. Involved in work that is intended for the mass market: a commercial artist. 2. Of, relating to, or being goods, often unrefined, produced and distributed in large quantities for use by industry. 3. Having profit as a chief aim: a commercial book, not a scholarly tome. 4. Sponsored by an advertiser or supported by advertising: commercial television. This guys plugin DOES NOT require you to buy it or REGISTER it in fact. And I am not here to CONVINCE YOU! This whole thread was about OTHER people WHO MIGHT be interested in the software. OBVIOUSLY your NOT!! 95% of all the Meedio plugins are "SHAREWARE/DONATION WARE" and you will find that even HERE at MSFN. So if your happy with Media Portal that's GREAT, like I said earlier. "I tried Media Portal and could just not get it to work with ALL of my external equpment. Off to have a beer. jd
  9. Right Here!! http://www.meedio.com/maid/detail.php?mode...1-E35C7F63C783} Anything else??
  10. it automounts iso's on daemontools and play them..... love it , and OPENSOURCE Medio isnt free Meedio will work with daemontools. There are ALOT of players out there that will work with Meedio and I am sure the same holds true to Media Portal. Media Portal is good, I have tried a few different versions of it. I could not get it setup the way I wanted to play nice with everything else. The other good point with Meedio is the fact there are close to 300 (262 to be EXACT) different plugins that ARE FREE or cheap shareware. I came from back when myHTPC was the big thing and waited until a ROCK SOLID version of Meedio would work on my machine, then I bought it with the special xmas price. Again Media Portal is GOOD and yes it is open source. But Meedio has quite abit more to offer in the way of plugins. Home Theatre System MOBO: Abit AN7 CPU: AMD 3200XP RAM: 512 Megs Ram Vid. 11. Meedio is a GREAT program. Sure beats being "LOCKED" in to only certain things "mce". Sorry can't help alot with the silent install stuff. I really don't think you can with the plugins though. I used the product prior to meedio "myHTPC" it was a great program RIP. jd
  12. Go with XP PRO OEM. For support, you won't need M$ as you have a WEALTH of info right here at MSFN. With Microsoft support I have only had to deal with them once and that was due to a CD I had would not install (W2K PRO OEM). They asked me for a CD-Key gave it to them and in a few days I had a working CD. As far as M$ changing the OEM stuff that is STUPID!!!!! What if I only need 1 copy of XP Pro OEM and my pc at home is waiting for it? BS is what I say. Guess it's time to break out my Amigas and change my x86 cases into LINUX!! If your looking at GREAT prices check out http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16837102062 BTW: Started using M$ products since Dos 5.0 came out. A little later with a Bridgeboard in my Amiga 2000 which I still have today and works!! jd
  13. Got a question I am trying to resolve and would like to hear other input. IIRC the hardware encoder cards (Hauppauge pvr-250 type) came out first mid/late 90's and VIVO video cards started in late 2000?? Is this correct?? No it's Not the Chicken or the Egg. Thanks John
  14. Aegis, I have built my own HTPC and wishing for a MUCH smaller and faster XP install, so that all overhead/processes are HTPC related. I have been able to use N-lite for the downsizing but feel that this could be smaller. I think you are on the right track and would really like to try this for an HTPC install. I do believe that there are quite a few HTPC enthuiasts that would greatly appreciate it. Let me know if you need any help in this area. System Specs Below. 15. Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. Think I found the problem. Appears that my HD is starting to go bye bye on me. I ran the Maxblast tools on it today and got quite a few bad blocks and a couple of error messages. It's been a good drive since I bought it a few years back. Hooked up a backup drive I had laying around and the system was back in top performance. Guess I will go and buy a Seagate since they have the 5 year wty. on them. I have 2 of those in the wanna be server, and I actually have to put my ear to the HD to hear it run. Could one of the Moderators remove a post of mine in the W2K forum regarding how to remove the ICW and My folders. I found the notes, Thanks Again Thanks for the suggestions. You All have a Great and Safe Holiday Season.... John
  16. Nevermind, I found what I needed. Waiting for Christmas Cheer
  17. Nope no re-activation notice now. The system is still real sluggish though. I use DMA on all my boxes, the IDE tranfer on this particular system is set to Ultra DMA Mode 5. This is really getting stupid with the sluggishness. I am starting to wonder if maybe the HD is going south on me?? Here's the Spec's. Ya I know should have posted them earlier. I would put in my sig, but I have 10 different boxes all networked together in my house. Thanks John MOBO. 18. Ya, I tried rebooting in safe mode and got the same thing. Can't do XP System Restore, Don't use it. The less MS stuff I have to deal with the better. Funny thing though, I have rebooted 8 times from a cold start. Out of the 8 times all 7 had the same display regarding having to re-activate. On the 8'th time NO problems booting into my account with the reminder. On the other hand on the 8'th time, the system was extremely sluggish and un-responsive. Scanned for virus, spyware, Defragged, and ran CHKdisk on the drive with no improvement. Tried rebooting warm and came to the logon screen, logged in and system is still sluggish. OK time to break out ghost 2003 and reflash drive. System rebooted, I logged in and the system is still sluggish but not as bad. Checked all my hardware again for proper seating, fans running etc.etc. System temp is fine @ 38C. So I know its not a temp issue. Going thru my log that I keep for Software and Hardware changes on all the computers I again found that NOTHING has changed since the last MS updates. No Bios Changes MOBO, Video Card. No new Hardware. Checked my voltages in the bios screen and they are well within spec. Biggest descripancy on the voltage was on the 12 volt rail showing a 200millivolt differance from true 12. Any Ideas?? This is really bothering me. Oh, and before I forget yes the system does pass the Windows Genuine check. Thanks John
  19. Absolutely NOTHING has changed. I do not have automatic updates turned on, (Never Have). No new updates for any software installed. No new drivers installed. Checked Hardware to make sure it did not wiggle out from a slot. Ya I know I could just reactivate it, or call MS, but WHY?? I am not trying to sound sarcastic and excuse me if I do. I just am really getting more and more annoyed. Guess the point I am trying to make here is the fact NOTHING has changed and why does it require me to Re-Activate. I really think that's BS in the strongest terms for MS. John
  20. Like WTF is this CRAP!!! This machine has been activated for over a 1 1/2 years ago and NOTHING hardware has changed. The install came from a GENUINE MS XP Pro OEM distributor. All the PRETTY MS logo's halograms and etc. So anyone got clues. All the latest updates (CRITICAL). John
  21. Thanks Guys, I am trying to find my old MS-Dos book that had a bunch of stuff in it. Since using winblows dos commands have been a thing of the past for me, had to do a little batch file stuff but not anything relating to what I need. Just tonight I had a BRAIN FART and forgot how to just do CD\xxx. Not Alzheimers just if you don't use it you lose it. Thanks again!!!!! john
  22. Hello everyone. Hope ya all had a great T-day for those who celebrate it. My question is this, after downloading the updates for XP what would I need to put into the system and batch file for the updates to be installed when a user first logs in to the machine and not repeat after the updates have been installed? I have 5 computers and not all of them get turned on or left running daily. For example my wife's computer gets used once or twice a month and I would like it for when she logs into her machine that the batch file would automatically install the updates reboot and then not install until the next set of MS updates/fixes. On my machine I have a simple batch file which I double click on to install the new fixes. This simple batch file resides on a basic storage computer within our workgroup. have searched the forums for batch files but cannot find any relating to this particular issue. Thanks John
  23. Ya, already tried that. Nothing different I have even tried reloading my backups with NO luck. Have even re-installed my admin install point with no luck. Where do I find recovery notes?? This is office 2k Pro, and I have never seen that function. Thought it was only on 2003?? Below is what I have already tried. 1. Re-install Admin Install Point on server. No Updates. 2. Re-install Admin Install Point on server. With Updates. 3. Restore my backups, dating to 12/2004 Last known working. 4. Used R-Studio NTFS to restore scratched files. 5. Tried on a standalone desktop not connected to network. 6. Ran Norton Anti Virus. NO VIRUS FOUND 7. Tried using Wordpad. 8. Tried using Notepad for Sh%%s and Grins 9. Tried changing template. (The Fonts, Size & Style are Grayed out when opening file). NONE of the above work When opening these files it appears that there might be something missing that points to the Normal.dot file for the type of font and size information. Question is could these be recovered using a hex editor and re-setting a bit???? If so where could the bit be located within the file?? What is a good hex editor today??? Thanks John
