  1. Sounds like a plan - I have several images on flash drives (Acronis True Image) in case things go wonky at some point. I really wish I knew how to direct you to this mysterious sp4 that some of us have; but I'm not even (completely) sure how I wound up with it. I *don't think* it was intentional on my part - perhaps the posready had something to do with this, but I don't know that "trick" would even work anymore. Good luck with your testing.
  2. Wow... this is odd. Somehow I've got xpsp4res.dll 5.1.2600.7208 - not a clue where I picked up that one?
  3. Corrected: I ran it again and its fine with March 16th.
  4. Thanks Dave ... ugh ... I thought I was up to date. I don't know what I'm missing?
  5. https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/core-infrastructure-and-security/sha2-and-windows/ba-p/1128617 Could (would) somebody kindly confirm that I'm using the latest rsaenh.dll 5.1.2600.6924 EDIT: Link removed
  6. @Dixel Do you believe there is some (other) way we might obtain the certificates without having to take them from a 7/8/10 machine? Thank you for your assistance and insight on this And.. apparently I didn't ask politely enough the first time re this oh-so elusive and super secret: Server 2003 SHA-2 update (that I can not find anywhere?!?!?) **pretty please w cherries whipped cream and mocha topping** EDIT: after reading and reading and reading some more.. It appears this (so called) update might be a moot point anyway.
  7. Yeah, not very helpful to your question, but I used to use Outlook Express (and currently have installed msimn 6.0.2900.5512 on my devices, but it won't even start even when 'enabled', so I leave it 'disabled'). To be honest, back when I was still using it (perhaps around 2013) I was shocked at just how vulnerable it (actually) was - my Hotmail was severely hacked and to this day, I can not recover it. I've lost my hotmail and netzero emails to hacking back when i was using POP3 - I was clueless about internet security ... so I guess I learned the 'hard way'. Sorry to say, sometimes, those you trust and consider to be your "best friends" are the ones to watch out for the most. Now, in my late 40's, I've learnt that 'trust should be earned; not given'.
  8. I've been searching around the forum(s) and can't locate this update - would you kindly point me in the direction of where to obtain it? Thank you, and I find this strange the Chrome browsers worked when FF browsers didn't, because I was under the impression that our maintainer for (both) New Moon and Serpent used certificates that weren't reliant upon the OS. I've not (yet) 'time traveled' my machine and do you think that Server 2003 SHA-2 update help us out with this situation; anyway? EDIT: Been searching around the web and most links are dead, so I'm looking at this. https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/core-infrastructure-and-security/sha2-and-windows/ba-p/1128617
  9. Thank you; Dave, for confirming that - this has been a good learning lesson for me; I will say that much. I was surprised that I was even lacking those 6 updates (another story), as my system is posready, so I should be as up-to-date as can be ... but hopefully (together) we'll figure this out.
  10. As it turns out.. I do have (both) KB2808679 & KB2868626, but I don't have KB968730 installed; so I guess I won't bother then. I was a bit surprised to find/discover them under: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\Windows XP\SP4 ? Honestly, I may have (indeed) installed that (unofficial) sp4 at some point - sadly ( I fully admit ) its not just my computer memory suffering here. **cry** Truthfully ... I think come May 9th, I'll just hide in bed and pull the covers up over my head with my teddy bear
  11. Thank you for the reply. Just wanted to let you know, that, I've had good results with: Parkdale V3 - 3.0.4 https://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Hard-Disk-Utils/Parkdale.shtm
  12. Gladly - how would you prefer I get the 592 KB dll to you? Its too large to upload here. https://uploadify.net/50587da2b387d8f4/crypt32.dll Or: https://files.fm/u/b73snhzx3
  13. The free version that I use does not register in XP's security center neither.
  14. I was quite shocked myself, actually. I (again) enabled DCOM Server Process Launcher (why its relies on that, I'm unsure) and ran the application and apparently somehow it 'detected' that I needed those 6 updates this morning (now, zero). However, it included some 64bit versions that (obviously) I do not require. It fetched the following: So you say wsusscn2.cab shouldn't work; I don't know?? For some reason, I didn't have the correct Windows Update Agent installed (now that brought me up to (wuauclt 7.4.7600.226 winmain_wtr_wsus3sp2(wmbla).090806-1834), so I just did that and enabled everything on my system (which I've not done in ages) and let the computer (try to) do its 'thing'. All that resulted was the security center (red shield) nagging me that I don't have antivirus - likely hoping to detect MSE or something. I restarted a few times and left it running most of the day and now I'm back with (practically) all services disabled (how I prefer it). So.. again, not sure what that accomplished. Perhaps I need "professional help" - regarding the computer issue ... of course. Ha! Enjoy your day/evening all, and I'll be back in May
  15. Hi Dave.. To be honest.. I've never "installed" any of roy's builds (both serpent or new moon) - I just unzip the 7zip files on my drive into the desired folders (in my case) [C:\Program Files\Basilisk] and run the application, which in turn creates the profile(s)/folder(s) C:\Documents and Settings\DELL\Application Data\Moonchild Productions\Basilisk C:\Documents and Settings\DELL\Local Settings\Application Data\Moonchild Productions\Basilisk C:\Documents and Settings\DELL\Application Data\Mozilla\Extensions (for me; empty) When I decide to start fresh, I just delete everything related to the application; so it has never shown in Add/Remove Programs, for me anyway. EDIT: The only issues I've run into, is, CCleaner won't pick up Serpent automatically. It was @Sampei.Nihira that helped me to use custom rules to clean up after itself.
  16. Hello there.. were you able to locate the 32 bit version?
  17. Thanks, Dave, everything seems to be fine - last time I ran it there are not more updates so i guess I'm good to go. I actually think those were sort of trivial though, somehow I missed them over the years, perhaps.
  18. Okaaay... So, I updated the 6 updates and everything went well (keeping my fingers crossed) and I'm told to restart my computer. Here I go - wish me luck :)
  19. Yes, Dave, I was expecting a page to come up with all the updates available as it used to be in IE (I realized this morning I have activeX disabled anyway lol). I'm able to search and download updates with no issues. However, as I share your instinct(s) - I'll leave well enough alone so long as this old Ford Pinto starts up and still shifts into "drive". That being said.. I bookmarked the "Portable Update" tool in case the need be to give life support to this beast Cheers EDIT: Ok I found it - sorry for my ignorance I downloaded the tool and enabled the services (I thought) were/are required and the log is as shows after running it 5 times. 30/04/2021 11:51:29 AM 1272 Main error: The remote server machine does not exist or is unavailable - PortUp 30/04/2021 11:51:38 AM 532 Main error: The remote server machine does not exist or is unavailable - PortUp 30/04/2021 11:51:49 AM 380 Main error: The remote server machine does not exist or is unavailable - PortUp 30/04/2021 11:52:17 AM 1620 Main error: The remote server machine does not exist or is unavailable - PortUp 30/04/2021 11:53:17 AM 912 Main error: The remote server machine does not exist or is unavailable - PortUp Below was from the first link on that page on our forum. I'll have to put on my 'thinking cap' for this one I seems. I found a good deal online for a 'thinking cap' as I have a coupon somewhere in my dresser drawer still ... hopefully anyway FINAL EDIT: (I promise - I guess I'm not as dumb as I look) Turns out: I had to (also) enable (as I usually have it disabled) DCOM Server Process Launcher - and boomshakalaa - 6 updates available.
  20. Thank you; dencorso! Phew ... now I can breathe again. I mean.. last night I just curled up in the fetal position on my sofa crying with a 1/2 gallon tub of ice cream over this
  21. This was my first thoughts actually. What exactly does this mean for those of us that are just using our system 'as is' and don't plan to change or update any further?
  22. I can confirm with both: New Moon and Serpent, I also can not see comments. Hovering over commentarios doesn't reveal anything for me, however I'm able to (right click) inspect element. Sorry, I don't understand the results - could it be the ad blocker?
  23. TY! I downloaded it, but after reading your posting.. I check and my version of CRYPT32.DLL is 5.131.2600.6459 (xpsp_sp3_qfe.131005-0434) as well, so I guess there is no need to install it as that would be a downgrade as you stated.
