  1. Looks very interesting: https://github.com/JHRobotics/softgpu Also VOGONS thread: https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=93671&p=1156214
  2. No drivers are available for the integrated GPU in either of those motherboards, use VBEMP or GeForce 6000/7000 series or Radeon X300/X500/X600/X1050/X700/X800/X850 PCI-E GPU, or a PCI GPU. Use PATCHMEM, user AHCI driver if you want to use a SATA HDD/SSD. Can also use IDE/PATA HDD which is the easiest option. Install 98SE with "SETUP /p i" switch to disable ACPI which causes issues. Use unofficial USB drivers for USB 2.0/Flash Drive support. No drivers available for the integrated HD Audio, use cheap USB Sound Card or PCI sound card. As for LAN, might try drivers from here: https://soggi.org/drivers/realtek.htm
  3. https://soggi.org/drivers/realtek.htm There you can find latest Realtek PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet drivers for 98SE/ME, they support 8101E, 8101HP, RTL8131, 8102E/8103E, 8104E, 8168B, 8168C, 8168CASUS, 8168D according to the INF file. I think not all versions of 8168 are supported by those drivers. Newer chips like 8169E? Probably no chance, need to use NDIS2 drivers.
  4. Actually, Sun and Microsoft weren't too friendly back in the day: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Java_Virtual_Machine MSJVM is one of the reasons why Win98/ME was killed prematurely, as sad as it is...
  5. Not sure why you encounter issues with onboard SATA ports, what are the issues? Windows should automatically after first phase of setup switch to the legacy DOS based 16-bit disk access (with the warning in the Performance tab). Perhaps it tries to use ESDI_506.PDR, how does BOOTLOG.TXT looks like?
  6. Reinstall ME and drivers.
  7. The AHCI driver also works on 95, I don't care personally about Win3x. Your UEFI version looks old enough, back when I had an ASUS ROG STRIX B450-I GAMING motherboard, it had a 2021 UEFI version and it ran 98SE well with Ryzen 5 3600. My current motherboard MSI PRO H610M-B DDR4 with Intel i3-12100F and the latest UEFI version, sadly throws the VCACHE error. (Don't really want to test older versions as XMP doesn't work on those and the motherboard doesn't have any failsafes in case of a power outage during UEFI flashing)
  8. What UEFI version you are using on this motherboard? Does updating it causes the VCACHE error to appear like in your Ryzen motherboard? Why do you need the SATA/IDE controller? Motherboard's SATA ports should work fine with RLoew's AHCI driver/SweetLow's fixed version from here: http://sweetlow.orgfree.com/download/ patcher9x is not useful outside of Virtual Machines, the error in those is caused by the ESDI_506.PDR built-in 32-bit IDE driver, which of course is not used on modern motherboards since Win9x automatically reverts back to the 16-bit DOS based disk access (and warns you of that in System Control Panel Applet's Performance Tab.)
  9. Why not just unplug the fan and underclock the CPU? (might require modding BIOS to avoid CPU fan error if it causes a system halt) You can use CrystalCPUID on 9x for this and there's plenty of software for DOS to slow down the CPU in it. My ThinkPad T42p has Intel 855PM chipset and it seems to be the latest one from Intel that is fully officially supported under 98.
  10. I think it's this: http://sweetlow.orgfree.com/download/ No INF files are present but I guess it's just a drop in replacement for existing USB 2.0 drivers...
  11. Most likely too much RAM, use PATCHMEM: https://archive.org/details/PATCHMEM
  12. When I was running 98SE natively on a Pentium G4560 and Ryzen 5 3600, I didn't need this patch, it seems to be only needed for running under a virtualization software like VMware/VirtualBox. This patch doesn't fix the VCACHE error on the newest CPUs/UEFI versions like on my i3-12100F.
  13. Too new, don't bother.
  14. Not sure what the problems with sound are, Realtek AC97 v4.04 driver should work fine: https://tim.id.au/static/WDM_A404.exe
  15. Your laptop is too new for Win9x. As for DOS sound, your only option to have good DOS sound in your laptop is to get a PCMCIA Sound Card compatible with DOS games, more info here: https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?t=30840 Though probably such sound card will be more expensive than a PC with ISA slots and an ISA soundcard
  16. This is some devastating news, he was very active over at the Win9x section and others, he will be missed. Rest in Peace.
  17. Just seeing this... He will not be forgotten, as a fellow customer (I bought his Win9x AHCI driver) and an active user of the Win9x section here over at the MSFN who had many conversations with him, I am sending best wishes to the family. Rest in Peace.
  18. 1920x1080 is officially supported under Windows 9x and is nothing fancy, NVIDIA drivers included this resolution in their INF file, and other manufacturers did too. 1366x768 on the other hand was not widely (or at all?) supported under Windows 9x, the simple change in the INF file may or may not work, it's all a matter of luck.
  19. You type and run "PATCHMEM /M" (no quotes) from pure DOS, not from Windows DOS prompt, use F8 or exit to DOS from shutdown menu.
  20. 1. What are the rest of your components? What is the exact variant of the GPU? 2. Reinstall 98SE with the "/p i" switch to disable ACPI which might cause problems 3. Install R. Loew's PATCHMEM with the "/m" switch: https://archive.org/details/PATCHMEM 4. What is the error? When does the system crash? 5. Install patches from PTCHNVSZ from R. Loew: https://archive.org/details/PTCHNVSZ (although it says it is only for 512MB GPUs, its fixes can be applied to other NVIDIA GPUs as well (minus the BIOS fix), consult the included manual
  21. Ok, it seems I should be in better luck trying Mesa, your driver/GPU has worse support than mine, maybe try installing the latest one (they seem to be not the latest ones) from here: http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/vftp1gme.exe (they are made for ThinkPads specifically)
  22. @Bruninho Have you checked this page he created? https://github.com/kjliew/qemu-3dfx/wiki/Apple-Silicon-macOS-Prerequisites
  23. Try using AIDA64, Everest doesn't show info regarding which OpenGL version is supported, AIDA64 latest version does work under Win9x. Use ZIP version, if experiencing BSOD, remove kerneld.w9x from AIDA64 files. I can try using Mesa, going to be a long process testing all those versions...
  24. There's also the unfixable at the moment VCACHE error that appears on the newest motherboards: https://msfn.org/board/topic/183200-z690-vcache-protection-error/ Maybe this info can help to troubleshoot this too...
  25. You can try RLoew's AHCI driver: https://archive.org/details/ahci_win9x and plug the SSD directly to Intel's SATA ports, disable JMicron controller, and set the SATA mode to Enhanced. There's no need to look for any specific SATA controllers anymore, any SATA controller will work with this driver using Enhanced AHCI mode (not Compable/IDE). Just install Win9x like normal, it will boot up in DOS-compatible disk access mode, in which you install the AHCI driver, reboot and you're all good.
