  1. You do not need chipset drivers. You can use rloew's AHCI driver to avoid legacy IDE modes, and select enhanced SATA mode and avoid the devil that is ESDI_506.PDR for maximum performance. LAN - if built-in solution is Realtek, it might have drivers, just search the model number. If something else, try finding drivers, if can't find them, look for NDIS2 drivers, if still no luck, try a cheap PCI Realtek LAN card. AUDIO - If built-in is HD Audio - then there are no drivers, use a cheap USB Sound Card or a PCI sound card. If built-in is AC'97 - there are drivers. GPU - Integrated - only Intel Extreme Graphics 2 has drivers. Use GeForce 6000/7000 or Radeon X550/X600/X700/X800/X850 PCI-E GPUs, or an AGP motherboard/card for more choices. (Geforce 2 to 6000 series, Radeon 8500 to 9800 AGP, etc.) USB 2.0 - use unofficial drivers.
  2. INF file size limit for Win9x is 64KB I'm pretty sure. Are you sure these drivers did not work without WDMEX? Do you get sound? I hope you're not talking about HD Audio, that would be a major breakthrough
  3. 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics Controller = Intel Extreme Graphics 2, latest Intel GPU compatible with 98SE, latest drivers are here: https://download.asrock.com/Drivers/Intel/VGA/VGA_ME_98(13.6.1.3732).zip It does have 3D Acceleration, it's not great but passable, haven't really played with it much but it's better than having to use VBEMP...
  4. SoftGPU (or more specifically, its "wine9x" and "mesa9x" components) seems to be the only(?) option for some kind of universal software 3D Acceleration (using llvmpipe) for Win9x running on real hardware, not talking about any virtualization. I've tested it on real hardware with my 7900 GTX and it workes just like it does on VirtualBox with all its current limitations, and it's quite buggy. In this case, whenever DirectX is being requested by an application using ddraw, d3d8, or d3d9 - CPU does all the work, leaving GPU running simply as a dumb basic display adapter using VBEMP or thing like that.
  5. I saw today's news of WUv4 now being available for (English) Win98/ME, and yes, it does indeed work, I am so happy!
  6. Most of Win9x updates are not multilingual, only some of them are, depending on the DLL being patched, like KERNEL32.DLL.
  7. Windows 98SE is a KernelEx for Windows 95 if you think about it...
  8. Try different SiS IDE Drivers, this might be helpful: https://theretroweb.com/motherboards/s/hp-vectra-vei-7#downloads
  9. PATCHMEM from R.Loew limits/fixes the VCACHE in the same way that Xeno86's VCACHE fix did years ago here: https://msfn.org/board/topic/105373-vcache-fix-attempt
  10. Are you talking about vmdisp9x? Yes, the author is updating his SoftGPU suite from time to time, I am keeping an eye on the developments as well.
  11. This is quite the news. It is indeed a custom installer using MSYS with quite a variety of WineD3D versions to choose from. I think it would be beneficial to compare those DLLs with the ones we already know. The ISO doesn't contain any source code, so I think it is against the rules, but he has changed the donation text since June 30th so currently it is not available for new donators. Maybe the source code was provided in a separate archive and only the compiled ISO was uploaded?
  12. LitePC also was (is?) providing embedded Win9x solutions -> https://www.litepc.com/eos.html As for slipstreaming updates, there's rloew's SLIPSTRM -> https://archive.org/details/slipstrm Not sure if anyone actually used it, can be an interesting adventure.
  13. ALC6xx? That is HD Audio, no drivers for Win9x (apart from the clunky Win3.1 driver with low quality sound and system hangs) As you're using 98 FE, please do note that WDM implementation in FE is not really that good, WDM was properly introduced/fixed in 98 SE/ME. Pretty much all OEMs recommend using VxD drivers for 95/98 FE and WDM drivers for 98 SE/ME, that's for a reason! What is the model of your USB Audio Card? It should install natively as a "USB Audio Device" using WDMA_USB.INF file.
  14. I haven't tested them on real hardware, though switching interest to VM's rather to real hardware makes sense.
  15. But MMHID.DLL is related to USB, look at HIDDEV.INF Curiously, I can't find MMHID.DLL in CAB files in 98SE, is it only in 98FE? Is @awkduck using 98FE?
  16. This: https://www.os2museum.com/wp/windows-9x-video-minidriver-hd/ and this: https://github.com/JHRobotics/vmdisp9x can be considered successors to VBEMP. (And don't get me started on the SciTech Display Doctor, ugh)
  17. HID means USB keyboards/mice/audio cards/whatever. Have any USB devices? Does this error occur even without any USB devices plugged in? Try removing USB controllers in Device Manager/disabling USB in BIOS.
  18. Try using older VIA Chipset/AGP drivers. Provide info about your motherboard, are the capacitors OK? Is it the MSI K8T Neo2 you've mentioned in one of your topics? I personally do not like VIA chipsets for Win9x, all sorts of problems and lots of chipset drivers to install, in contrast to Intel chipsets which do not need any drivers at all. As for AMD CPUs support, I have used an nForce 3 250 motherboard with 98SE with good success, minus the SoundBlaster Live! DOS drivers not working due to how the chipset works so try looking for that chipset if you want to use AMD CPU for 98SE, otherwise, use Intel with chipset like i865.
  19. Installing official WDM Audio Update - KB242937 for 98SE might help - http://ftp.tekwind.co.jp/pub/asustw/beta/mb/driver/269601USA8.EXE I never had major problems with USB Audio Cards, they work out-of-the-box together with the built-in USB 1.1 support in 98SE. I would suggest removing all audio cards, disabling all built-in audio devices, reinstall 98SE fresh with the USB Sound Card plugged in and the update applied. (no unofficial USB drivers are needed as long as USB is enabled in BIOS, and USB 2.0 is not required for USB Sound Cards to work)
  20. Catalyst 6.2 for 98SE/ME does have support for PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5954 Try reinstalling 98SE with "setup /p i" switch to disable ACPI.
  21. You can use "hwinfo /ui" on 98SE FWIW.
  22. Maybe this will be helpful, it's a collection of updates from SweetLow: (password: 1) https://disk.yandex.ru/d/4phicEdUMARWIQ
  23. Still hoping for working v4 Windows 98SE/ME but that's already good progress! It's been more than 11 years since it got shut down, time flies
  24. We don't even know what is the issue, TheInvoker should explain it clearly. Is it about the network icon not showing the Windows 11 Bluetooth menu? It is showing it if the taskbar icons are set to Windows 11 or Windows 7 menus.
  25. Great work @Tihiy I remember you from the Revolutions Pack days I've just tried StartAllBack after using ExplorerPatcher for a while (also good stuff) and immediately bought a license, it makes Windows 11 look like Windows 11 while actually being useful! Just one thing I've noticed: - Is there a way to change StartAllBack Settings' language? Couldn't find an option for it and it is forced with the currently set locale.
