  1. Q175629 has esdi_506.pdr version 4.00.1119, Marius '95. I can send you the patch if you want. Just be sure you are using Win95 OSR2 version 4.00.1111 B or C. email me or send me a PM if you need the Q175629 hotfix for Win95. I just couldnt install the AMD-K6 patch. the problem happened before Win95 loaded and before I got a chance to install the update. perhaps the updated files from the patch needed to be installed from DOS mode outside Win95 as noted from this page: http://home.pacbell.net/drakcap/Purist10.htm The K6-2 patch does NOT cover CPUs faster than 2.1Ghz as noted in MS article 312108. MS only made a Q312108 hotfix for Win98fe but not for Win95. But you were using RAID controllers. Can you use your HDs WITHOUT RAID controllers under Win95? that's the big question! Also can you use your big HDs without even using ANY Ultra ATA PCI adapters that have their own 48bit LBA BIOSes & drivers. The Ultra ATA PCI adapters with 48-bit LBA BIOS/drivers bypass a computer's BIOS and the Win95 esdi_506.pdr driver. YES, GOSH DARN IT, LLXX! Guess you are STILL in the DARK why many large HDs may not be compatible with Win95. Even Rudolph Loew's High Capacity Disk Patch does NOT cover Win95 which is a good thing. Ditto for Intel Application Accelerator software which not only does not support Win95 but works very oddly under there. IAA works under Win98/2000/ME/NT4/XP.
  2. you are only HALF right. ANY kind of BIOS made before Jun 1999 will NOT work with 32Gb HDs (as mentioned in Western Digital's FAQ). BIOSes after that date may work with 32Gb HDs. and besides, my custom made PC (which now has WinXP) with a 40Gb HD (and using an AWARD BIOS) did NOT work with Win95 SR2 because Win95B had caused a lot of "blue screen" errors before startup; hey Win95 SR2 cant work on machines with superfast CPUs without the AMD-K6 patch MS created. didnt bother installing the patch, reformatted the HD, put in Win98se and then upgraded to XP.
  3. the 48bit HD technology is incompatible with Win95, FOOL! (no wonder why I'm getting a lot of those BSODs and other oddities when using very large HDs under Win95) it's just like mixing apples and oranges which does NOT make any sense! and if you dont believe MS, try asking the people from the 48BitLBA.com site. any creation of a 48bit LBA driver for Win95 WOULD BE VERY FOOLISH!!
  4. what kind of computer are you using, bearsowner? specify how fast your CPU is and how much RAM your computer has. Flash Player 9 is crappy on machines slower than let's say 800Mhz PC with less than 256 megs of memory. Stick with Flash Player 8 or 7 as Flash Player 9 files are bigger and demand more resources. Recommended config for Flash Player 9 is a 1Ghz CPU with 256Mb or even 512Mb of memory. What version of Quicktime do you have on your XP computer, 303? I have Quicktime 7.1 (Quicktime 7 & higher do NOT work under Win98/ME/NT4 as they require Win2k/XP). also how fast is your XP machine (mention type & speed of CPU and how much RAM is installed). My Sun Java software CAN run even under my WinME and WinXP machines (i'm using JRE 5.0 update 7). You have to enable it from your web browsers, NOT from the Java Control panel. From IE's Internet Properties Advanced tab dialog box, scroll down and find the Java [sun] section and make sure the Use JRE checkbox is enabled. Also from Mozilla/Firefox browsers, check the Java box if it is unchecked. If you still have problems with Sun Java, un-install it, delete the \Application Data\Sun\Java\ folder (if it exists), delete the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft" and "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JavaSoft" registry keys in Regedit, download a clean version of the Java software from the Sun Java site and re-install it. BTW - my WinME machine is a Pentium 3 [766Mhz] with 256Mb of RAM and my WinXP machine is a Pentium 3 [1.2Ghz] with 384Mb of RAM. Both the Sun Java and Flash Players work correctly on my ME & XP computers.
  5. I was also suprised such an important fix was not yet published on the net. However today noone wants to use Windows 95, since we have Windows 98SE with 98SE2ME right yup. one former Win95 OSR2 user I encountered online a few years ago had already upgraded to WinXP (and bought a new PC that came with XP). MDGx told me several months ago the author of the Q249824 voltrack.vxd fix for Win98 will NOT create a Q249824 voltrack.vxd patch for Win95; forgot the reason why.
  6. Petr has sent me Win95 hotfixes Q175629, Q229670 & Q242934. Q229670 and Q242934 may not be needed if MS Active Accessibility 1.3 is installed under Win95 which updates the gdi.exe, gdi32.dll, user.exe & user32.dll files to version 4.01.971. it is now past the July 11, 2006 date and it looks like MS is no longer offering anymore hotfixes for Win98 & ME.
  7. ah, no big deal hp38guser. Win95 has SO MANY FLAWS that it's best to use Win98 or WinME and install the 48bit LBA patches for Win98/ME to use 137Gb+ HDs. Win95 even chokes on AMD K6 and AMD Athlon 1.1 Ghz+ (and even on Intel Pentium 3/4) CPUs as noted in MS articles 192841 & 234259.
  8. unofficial Win98 FE SP 2.04 beta 3 will be posted early next week. It will feature the True Type Font Properties Extension 2.1, Web-Based Enterprise Management (WBEM 1.5), AOL ART Image Support Update and some other updates.
  9. yup but only FAT32 drives up to 32Gb. Any higher and Win95 SR2 may cause "data corruption" problems. heck there are not even fat32 drivers out there that will make earlier editions of Win95 read fat32 drives. And according to the 48bitLBA.com page Win95 also does NOT support or even recognize 48-bit LBA HDs greater than 137 GB and says to upgrade Windows to a higher version: http://www.48bitlba.com/win95.htm
  10. Petr has sent me the some Win95 hotfixes, including the Q175629 fix. send him a PM if you need the patches.
  11. RPLite 5 *should* work under WinME, although it is not tested not supported. it does not. if RPLite5 has fixed kernel32.dll file v4.10.2225 RPLite setup will overwrite ME's kernel32.dll v4.90.3000 file with a seemingly older one and prevent WinME from loading. can the "kernel update" work for ME?
  12. I have a better idea. Boot into DOS mode change to Windows directory and just rename the WIN.COM file. Then run Win98 SE setup. That will also bypass the "upgrade error" message but you MUST change the destination folder from C:\WINDOWS.000\ folder to C:\WINDOWS folder. the NTKERN.VXD file should be placed in the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM\VMM32\ folder. That's where mine is. check to see in BIOS setup in your Compaq PC if USB is enabled. If you still cant get USB to work, wipe out your HD (meaning reformat your HD) and do a CLEAN install of Win98 SE. Win98se works best when doing a clean install.
  13. WRONG! Using patched 4.10.2186 driver under Win95 with 32Gb+ HDs will F*CK your system up and cause BSODs (and cause other problems)! This is why I dont want you to patch Win95 systems, LLXX. THEY'RE DEAD NOW. Sorry but patching just the esdi_506.pdr file under Win95 is NOT GOOD ENOUGH! Other parts of the Win95 OS have to fully support huge HDs. AND OHHHHH, reading this from this forum: http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?p=1026129864 yea the last thing I want on a 32gb+ HD is for it to mess up computer files under Win95. 32Gb+ HDs are best used on Win98/ME/2000/XP. Windows 95 OSR2.x DOES support FAT32. It just doesn't support past 32GB. ONLY Win95 OSR2, OSR2.1 & OSR2.5 allow FAT32 drives. Win95 original & OSR1 do NOT recognize FAT32 drives as I've tested for myself several weeks ago. Win95 & DOS 7.0 can only accept up to 2Gb partitions.

    WGA

some of them include Media Player 9 and DirectX 9 which do require WGA
  15. uh guys, I have checked this MS support page and Extended Support for Win2000 Pro Edition will end on July 13, 2010: http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?p1=3071 same thing for all Server editions of Windows 2000. so the EOL date mentioned in the MS Win2k rollup FAQ is no longer accurate.
  16. sorry centrosaurus, I dont think we can do that because we dont even know how much the next version of the 98se service pack is completed. there will be an announcement in this forum of a new version of the 98se SP when it is posted. so you will have to wait like the rest of us are doing.
  17. at least the un-installer for Firefox 2.0 beta 1 did work correctly under the Win98 and WinME machines that I have tested. wonderful!
  18. Windows Server 2003 SP2 (beta) contains even NEWER IExpress.exe - 6.00.3790.2725. Again no updated makecab.exe and wextract.exe files. Petr that sucks doesnt it Petr for MS not to include updated makecab.exe and wextract.exe files? I think Win2003 SP2 may come out either late this year or early next year. There will be an XP SP3 sometime in 2007. MS definitely needs to address the date problems when creating CAB or self-extracting CAB files with the Windows Server 2003 version of makecab.exe.
  19. also include HHCTRLUI.DLL version 5.2.3664.0 from IE6 SP1 to the ME SP.
  20. NO DONT MAKE PATCHES FOR WIN95! WIN95's ESDI_506.PDR FILES DO NOT SUPPORT HDDs BIGGER THAN 32 GIGS! Everyone should be AWARE and have read MS article 246818 that Win95 can NOT support hard drives bigger than 32 gig (and they may NOT even work under Win95): http://support.microsoft.com/kb/246818/EN-US/ Bottom line, 32GB+ HDs are incompatible with Win95 and require Win98/ME or better to use. Those "hobbyists" hp38guser mentioned are most likely very, VERY few and more & more PC users are using at least Win98 or Win2000. Q176529 esdi_506.pdr v4.00.1119 hotfix for Win95 SR2 is NO longer available from Microsoft support as I was told they are no longer offering any existing Win95 hotfixes because ALL support for Win95 had ended. You wont be able to find it anywhere online. and besides, Win95 OSes are SO last decade and so last century that adding 48bit LBA support under Win95 would also require a complete rewriting or rebuilding of Win95 (yes, even rewriting many of Win95's core system files which have a lot of missing "dependencies" that are included in Win98/Win2000 & higher) which is next to impossible. heck, even Win95's built-in INF files cant even recognize Pentium 2 or even Pentium 3 CPUs and cant work on CPUs faster than 2.1 Ghz as mentioned in MS article 312108: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/312108 so LLXX, you need to concentrate on making Win98/ME OSes 48bit LBA compliant and forget about Win95. Win95 OSes are pretty much dead and already in the afterlife.
  21. no. even the updated grpconv.exe from NT4 MS04-037 (ver. 4.0.1381.7286) fails under Win98/ME. In fact, ALL of the updated grpconv.exe files from ALL editions of MS04-037 crash under 9xME. They just seem to hate Windows 95/98/ME OSes. go figure! anyway, the grpconv.exe files from the IE setup files for Win9xME are not vulnerable to the MS04-037 security problems. It won't work under clean 98 because of some dependancies, however it may work with Kernel Update. So do you guys want me to try fixing MS06-15 for WinME? go for it. BTW Tihiy, any chance of making a WinME version of Revolutions Pack Lite?
  22. NOT TRUE! Grpconv.exe from Win2k MS04-037 update CRASHES on Win98/ME systems as I've tested for myself.
  23. I'm in the process of creating the WinME Help & Support Content Update [wuwmupd1.exe] which includes files taken from the wuwmupd1.cab file. This fix requires the Q299014 update. I remember when I downloaded the Q299014 WinME Help & Support Update thru V3 Windows Update back in the summer of 2001, it downloaded both the Q299014.exe and wuwmupd1.cab files and installed the updates from both of those files. after installing the files from wuwmupd1.cab and rebooting the WinME computer, Help & Support will open at startup displaying info about the Help & Support content update of Nov. 2000. MDGx, I wonder if you would like to make a Text Converter Filters pack that will install updated filters in the TEXTCONV folder?
  24. Windows Server 2003 SP1 contains even NEWER IExpress.exe file than in XP SP2. WinServ2k3 SP1 has 6.00.3790.1830. Too bad M$ did not include updated makecab.exe and wextract.exe files in Service Pack 1 of Windows Server 2003.
  25. Maybe you get an error message ,but what you can do to avoid this is changing the version to a higher one with "Resource Hacker" for example. winxpi has got a point. You may want to change the webvw.dll file version number from 5.00.3900.7036 to 5.50.4134.7036. I've just tested it on my WinME computer in my bedroom and things seem to be working okay. try using that file under Win98se to see if it'll work there.
