  1. Remove Win98 Winsock 2.0 Error RNR20.DLL v4.10.2002 hotfix OFF your site. Q192425 RNR20.DLL patch for Win98 has version 4.10.2003 of RNR20.DLL file. and where's version 4.10.2004 of GDI.EXE & GDI32.DLL files for Win98? Has the author of unofficial 918547 patched those GDI files for Win98 FE yet? corrections to some Win95 updates: Q259110 has mprserv.dll v4.00.964 instead of 4.00.962. Q237493 has timedate.cpl 4.00.955 instead of 4.00.952. Q245213 for Win95 does NOT resolve 64Gb HD Fdisk problem; only resolves "Non-MS-DOS Partition 8 GB+" problem. When partitioning 64+ HDs with FDisk, use Win98 Q263044 FDisk or WinME FDisk to do that. About the HLINK.DLL files from 920670: The hlink.dll files from the Win2000, XP & 2003 KB920670 patches have same byte sizes and same version numbers but they are NOT binarily identical. Compare the Win2000 version of KB920670 hlink.dll file with the WinXP version of KB920670 hlink.dll file using the WinDiff file comparison tool. Both are different in actual code. I used the Win2000 version of HLINK.DLL from KB920670 under my WinME computer and so far, no problems.
  2. perhaps there was a problem with kb899282 that we dont know about that MS only knows and MS pulled it off their hotfix server so is beta 6 ready yet?
  3. be sure to include NIRCMD.EXE in the unofficial 918899 IE patch for IE6 SP1 because when installing this under WinME, the SFP feature needs to be shut down by NIRCMD or the updated files will be rejected by SFP. Better to included updated hhctrl.ocx file (from 922616) in unofficial HHUPD.EXE pack for Win98/ME/NT4 instead of creating separate patches. none so far. though I would not use updated hlink.dll file from either 888113 or 920670 under win95 and will cause IE not to work properly under Win95. Use KB888113's or KB920670's Hlink.dll file only under Win98, ME, NT4 or greater.
  4. ah forget about MS06-015. New security update MS06-045 has newer shell32.dll files for Win2000, XP & 2003.
  5. AH, you have 1 gig of RAM on the ASUS P4P800 Deluxe mobo? that could be the reason why you are getting those BSOD messages under Win98se. see MS article 253912 on what to do when using 512Mb of RAM or more: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/253912/en-us better yet, see this thread: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=79756
  6. before installing any Win98 SE updates, install all your device drivers for the Toshiba Satellite Pro 480CDT notebook PC. Go here for the drivers: http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su...kceghdgngdgnj.0 after setting up all your devices, then install the 98SE SP 2.1a pack.
  7. BTW - note to jimmsta (who just PMed me about why I responded to several old topics), I like to bring up those several older topics because I have some unfinished business with them. I may even have some new info to bring to those old topics.
  8. really? I'll get it ASAP. let bristols know about the newer build of msvcrt.dll file in your ME SP.
  9. more accurately, Attribute Changer versions 5.20 and higher do not support and do not work under Win95. I happen to find version 5.10 of AC here: http://www.internetstandard.pl/ftp/download/pc_1727/ac.exe This one does work under Win95 but requires HTML Help and IE installed. and thanks davk_88 for the TLC tool. I'll test it out when I have the time.
  10. umm, wrong forum, begginer. unless you are using Win98se this is not the place to post a new topic about XP. Note to moderators of MSFN: move this thread to the Microsoft Windows XP section
  11. that's nice, chankya, but it's a read-only NTFS driver for Win95/98/ME. Datapol's NTFS4DOS driver is one better because it can also write to NTFS systems. Download NTFS4DOS here: http://www.datapol.de/dpe/recovery/ntfs/index.html IMHO - best to use 3rd party read/write NTFS drivers for Win9xME & DOS, freeware or commercial
  12. You're probably right, I remembered the wrong day. and Windows 95 OEM Service Release 2 [OSR2] was released exactly a year after the original version of Windows 95 was released. no wonder why the Win95 OSR2 system files have a date of 8-24-1996.
  13. which I can easily fix most of the un-install problems with Gape's 98se SP. I just need to take a look at the spuninst.inf file and make corrections and then uninstallation of the pack will cause fewer or no problems under Win98se.
  14. personally I prefer third party Win9xME & DOS drivers that not only read NTFS drives but also write to NTFS drives. Drivers that only read NTFS systems under DOS/Win9xME (and no write access) are half the fun. Read & write NTFS drivers for DOS & Win9xME make it complete. BTW - link to Datapol's NTFS4DOS driver (free for personal use; business users will need to buy a license to use NTFS4DOS): http://www.datapol.de/dpe/recovery/ntfs/index.html
  15. unofficial U918547 V2 now has gdi.exe & gdi32.dll files version 4.10.2227 for Win98se instead of the kb918547.exe & q918547.dll files.
  16. The latest iPod software includes Quicktime 7. my brother likes to use his iPod a lot but can only connect to a usb 2.0 port or a firewire [iEEE 1394] port; it wont work when connected to a usb 1.0/1.1 port.
  17. you are better off getting RPlite5 from Tihiy's web site. RPLite5 is a big improvement over RPLite4.
  18. the QEMM (any version) memory manager tool ran well under Win95 but gives Win98/98se/ME fits. QEMM is incompatible with Win98/ME and can only work under Win95.
  19. it's actually both. both Win98se & WinMe have edb.cab file in that folder. If it isnt there, re-install Win98se and create a Win98se startup disk during 98se setup.
  20. the cosmetic bug is resolved mostly by installing 98SE2ME with option 3 to replace the 98se Explorer & Shell GUI with the WinME version or by installing RPLite5 with Shell update option checked. MS kinda fixed it in WinME. case closed
  21. only the 5.x versions (currently the author of Attribute Changer has version 5.21 and 5.23 posted at his site) are not Win95 compatible. I have done searches of older versions of Attribute Changer and found these old ones that can work under Win95. Attribute Changer 4.20: (this one should work under Win95 BUT requires IE 4.x/5.x installed since AC 4.20's Help file is a CHM file and CHM files can only be viewed in HTML Help applet but HTML Help requires IE). Go here first: http://www.jconline.cn/sq/rjxz/list.asp?id=4212 then click on the download link from there. If that does not work try this link: ftp://guest:guest@ftp.jconline.cn/softnt/ac.exe Attribute Changer 4.0a: http://wcarchive.cdrom.com/pub/simtelnet/w.../fileutl/ac.exe This one also requires IE 4.x/5.x and HTML Help to view the CHM file but should also work under Win95. Attribute Changer 3.0a: ftp://ftp.hs-niederrhein.de/pub/win9x/dmanager/attrchng.exe this one should work under Win95 with or without IE and uses older help file [HLP].
  22. I did find a problem with beta 3 of the 98fe SP. it will not install the Main Hotfixes & Updates part if Outlook Express 4 is not installed. The SP has to look for the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express" first. If that registry key is not present and OE4 is not installed, then the SP will not install the 98fe hotfixes at all. If that registry key is there and OE4 is installed then the 98fe SP will work as expected. This problem will be fixed in beta 4 so that the SP will install the Main Hotfixes & Updates part whether OE4 is installed or not. Beta 4 will be ready by next week.
  23. first use RegCleaner, then use Scanreg [registry checker] with the /opt switch to compress the WinME registry files.
  24. I seems that all of KB832584, KB888617, KB899282 fixes are no longer available. Petr KB899282 not available anymore? wasnt it released last year? bummer.
  25. or Tihiy's RPlite5 pack with Shell update. Using 98SE2ME option 3 to install the WinME Explorer GUI may also fix the multiple screen saver icon bug I talked about in another thread.
