  1. no problem with that site. and I'm using Flash Player 9, Sun Java 5.0 Update 7 and Windows XP SP2 with IE6 SP2. will try this on my WinME machine later.
  2. sure Gape. I can wait a little longer. please make these changes to 98se SP's SPUPDATE.INF file. In the "; 835732" section, modify this section to look like this: --- HKLM,"%CurrentVersion%\RunOnce","Registering cryptdlg.dll..." ,,"%11%\regsvr32 /s cryptdlg.dll" HKLM,"%CurrentVersion%\RunOnce","Registering cryptui.dll..." ,,"%11%\regsvr32 /s cryptui.dll" HKLM,"%CurrentVersion%\RunOnce","Registering mscat32.dll..." ,,"%11%\regsvr32 /s mscat32.dll" HKLM,"%CurrentVersion%\RunOnce","Registering mssip32.dll..." ,,"%11%\regsvr32 /s mssip32.dll" HKLM,"%CurrentVersion%\RunOnce","Registering schannel.dll..." ,,"%11%\regsvr32 /s schannel.dll" HKLM,"%CurrentVersion%\RunOnce","Registering softpub.dll..." ,,"%11%\regsvr32 /s softpub.dll" HKLM,"%CurrentVersion%\RunOnce","Registering wintrust.dll..." ,,"%11%\regsvr32 /s wintrust.dll" --- Add this string in the [updateInis.Section] section: Win.ini,intl,,"sShortDate=M/d/yyyy" <this will automatically change the short date format from displaying 2 digits for the year to 4 digits without having to use the Regional Settings control panel app to do it> also add the 2_4DATE.EXE file to make Win98se Explorer change the short date format from M/D/YY to M/D/YYYY. And in the SPUNINST.INF file remove references to the DHTMLED.OCX, HLINK.DLL & NABTSFEC.SYS files, especially for Win98se users who have IE 5.01/5.5/6.0 and/or DirectX 8/9 installed. We do NOT want to restore these files with older ones. In the "; Dcom98" section of SPUNINST.INF file, make a change to look like this: HKCR,CLSID\{bdc67890-4fc0-11d0-a805-00aa006d2ea4}\InstalledVersion,,,"4,71,0,2900" Win98se originally came with DCOM98 version 4.71.2900, not 4.71.1719. Or if you want, I can take a look at the SPUPDATE.INF and SPUNINST.INF files and I can make the changes to make the Win98se SP install and un-install with few or no problems.
  3. I am no longer using a 56K modem connection anymore, RJARRRPCGP. My brother and I upgraded to high speed DSL in middle of May (YAY!) anyways, the latest beta of the 98fe SP should be available from MDGx's web site when he posts it there. good thing is that MDGx's server is faster than Rapidshare and Mytempdir and supports resuming partial file transfers. Be sure to get a third party download manager/accelerator to download very large files with slow connections, RJARRRPCGP. Older AOL ART Image support files were included in the 98fe CD. I'll include msvcrt.dll v6.0.9787 in beta 4 which should also include media player 6.4.
  4. agreed. something more serious than just the laser lens with the uj-811 drive. try buying a CD/DVD Cleaning Kit and use that to clean the UJ-811 drive. If that does not help, then replace the drive with an NEC brand. it's sad that not all uj-811 drives can use the firmware updates provided by IBM and NEC. If the UJ-811 combo drive came with an IBM laptop, there's a firmware update for it at the IBM site (latest is now H107 from IBM's FWDM11.ISO package) but the firmware update is OEM specific and NOT a generic kind. Mash*ta's firmware updates can only work on certain brands of laptops and not work on others. for those who have UJ-811 drives in IBM laptops only, latest firmware for them is found here [H107]: http://www-3.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/d...ocid=MIGR-63596 and for those who have UJ-811 drives in NEC laptops only, firmware updates are found at these sites [H102]: http://121ware.com/support/download/003/811bh102.exe http://121ware.com/support/download/003/811rh102.exe If you do not own either an IBM or NEC laptop and have a UJ-811 drive, you can not use these firmware updates. again, these firmware updates are OEM specific, not generic.
  5. beta 3 of 98FE SP is now posted: <link to it now removed> changes to beta 3: -changed version number from 2.01 to 2.04 -added True Type Font Properties Extension 2.1 [ttfext.dll] -added Web-Based Enterprise Management 1.5 -added AOL ART Image Support for Internet Explorer -added Troubleshooter Content update for Windows 98 FE [tshoot98.exe]
  6. i agree with jimmsta on cutting down on wmp9 that some crucial functions will be lost. why not use WMP 6.4, PROBLEMCHYLD? media player 6.4 uses less resources than media player 9
  7. my aunt's Dell computer with WinME has internal ATAPI/IDE 250Mb ZIP drive and I install the latest IomegaWare software (v4.02) which also includes Iomega ZIP drivers. get it here: https://iomega-na-en.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/i...nZT0x&p_li= Install the IomegaWare software first and reboot computer before connecting any external Iomega drives. After reboot, IomegaWare should detect an internal or external Iomega drive. IomegaWare also installs Q273468 hotfix for Win95/98.
  8. WMP 9 is kinda bloated, Marius '95. Media Player 6.4, on the other hand, is not.
  9. Yes. It runs without problems after header patching. I'll write my researching later. alrighty then, guess i stand corrected. good job Tihiy. I believe there's a phrase that goes "pay attention to the details" which is why I took the time to read everything written in MS security bulletin MS06-015 so I dont miss any important detail.
  10. not sure. if you dont get it the first time, request it a second or third time and MS will give it to you.
  11. YAY!!! I have tested the patched esdi_506.pdr files from ME48BLBA.EXE and 9848BLBA.EXE under my neighbor's Win98fe PC and my WinME PC and so far no problems. now i just need to test the other esdi_506.pdr file from 48BITLBA.EXE under Win98se. also LLXX can you add 48bit LBA support under version 4.10.2226 of the esdi_506.pdr file? done. 48bit LBA esdi_506.pdr file from 48BITLBA.EXE for Win98se works on small HDs. I even used esdi_506.pdr file 4.10.2226 from Q252187 on my old NEC computer with Win98se and the machine never locked up.
  12. also put back version 6.2.4131.0 of the MFC42.DLL file in beta 6.
  13. actually the tips I mentioned were for Windows XP and may not apply to Windows 98/ME. when removing Sun Java, did you do it from Add/Remove programs. I did that on my WinME machine and it almost removed every Sun Java component. Note that Sun Java's installer uses Windows Installer so you also need to remove some things that Windows Installer missed. First of all, un-install Sun Java from Add/Remove programs first then reboot. Then check the following things: delete the \Windows\Application Data\Sun\ folder if it exists. search for the J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 7.msi file; if it exists delete it. if \Program Files\Java\ folder is still there delete that folder [on my WinME PC, Windows Installer removed that folder during un-install] if \Program File\Common Files\Java\ folder remained, delete the folder [on my WinME PC, un-install should have removed that folder]. Then from Registry Editor [regedit.exe] delete the following registry keys if they still exist: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft" and "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JavaSoft" Then download a clean version of Sun Java Runtime here: https://sdlc6c.sun.com:443/ECom/EComActionS...D5A1A3410152E92 and run setup. I definitely do NOT want to get rid of MS Java since it runs good on all of my computers. whoever advised you to un-install MS Java sure was NOT a big help; avoid following any future advice from them from now on. Before re-installing MS Java, I would delete the \WINDOWS\JAVA\ folder first, then re-install MSJVM.
  14. and there's always 98Lite which should make Win98/ME load faster
  15. I believe you can do this with just about any version of Windows Installer.
  16. no. Verclsid.exe files from MS06-015 refuse to run under Win95/98/ME and require Win2000/XP/2003
  17. Latest QT 7, but any since 6 or so I believe has had qttask... but it's no big deal with mlin's file monitor. I know about setting Java prefs. in browsers, but after I try opening the CP applet I just get a blank grey box... it *used* to work, I don't know what happpend, but I'll try your suggestions! Thanks alot ok, but what kind of computer are you using, 303? check how much memory your PC has and what kind of CPU it has and how fast is the CPU on your computer? You can un-install Flash 9 Player by using Flash Player un-installer: http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashpl...lash_player.exe then you can install either Flash player 7 or 8. Flash Player 8 (for both IE & Netscape/Mozilla browsers) can now be found here: http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flash...fp8_archive.zip Flash 7 player ActiveX Control for Internet Explorer browsers: http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashpl...r7r63_winax.exe Flash 7 player for Netscape/Mozilla/Firefox/Opera browsers: http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashpl...yer7r63_win.exe
  18. I don't have this problem with Msvcrt.dll 6.1.9844.0 and Free Ram XP 1.52. I do not have the problem with that either AND I am using WinME English. Mdgx, whoever sent that bug report will need to test the msvcirt.dll under "Computer P4 1.5 Willamette + WinME (english)", not italian WinME. actually it wasnt necessary to send it to me as I extracted the spuninst.inf from MESP 2.02 beta 5 V2 pack. just needed to change "Copy.Qfe" to "Copy.TC" and added the [Copy.TC] section which mentions the html32.cnv, msconv97.dll, mswrd832.cnv & mswrd632.wpc files. I'll send the updated spuninst.inf file to you on Friday. I might also make some changes to the spuninst.inf file of the 98se SP an send it to Gape since I found some problems with it and I can easily fix them.
  19. do a search on these files at Yahoo or Google. w95upg.dll is a migration DLL file when upgrading from Win95/98/ME to Win2000/XP/2003/Vista w95upgnt.dll is a migration dll file when upgrading from older NT versions like WinNT4 to Win2k & higher i believe these two files are used during Windows setup when installing a new version of Windows
  20. I just got an email response from someone from the 48bitLba.com site and this is what the person told me about Win95 & 48bit LBA: I apologize for being a hothead this morning; my custom made PC just couldnt handle Win95 properly causing a lot of frustrations for me and decided to put back WinXP on there.how 'bout adding 48bit LBA support on version 4.10.2226 of the esdi_506.pdr file of Win98se from Q252187. The 48bitlba.exe pack MDGx created has patched 4.10.2225 file. running the 48bitlba.exe patch under a Win98se PC that already has esdi_506.pdr 4.10.2226 file will be overwritten by the 4.10.2225 48bit-LBA version and Win98se users will lose the benefits of the fixes from Q252187; yes I know esdi_506.pdr version 4.10.2226 is NOT for every Win98 SE computer out there but at least there should be some consideration for adding 48bit LBA support on version 4.10.2226 of the esdi_506.pdr file. BTW - Q252187 esdi_506.pdr 4.10.2226 hotfix listed at MDGx's site: http://www.mdgx.com/files/Q252187.EXE if you insist on patching Win95 OSR2's esdi_506.pdr file, LLXX, Petr has obtained the Q175629 esdi_506.pdr 4.00.1119 (NOT 4.10.1119; look at the Win95 version numbering very carefully) hotfix. will be mentioned on MDGx's site soon.
  22. Antivirus who makes NOD32 antivirus app? a thing MANY users need to make a habit of, MDGx. shut down any antivirus, firewall or any other app before installing 98se2me or even the unofficial 98se service pack.
  23. is wextract.exe also included in Windows Vista?
  24. Did you read everything written in Microsoft security bulletin MS06-015, winxpi?Quote from MS06-015 FAQ section: Yes, webvw.dll build 7069 seems to work under my WinME computer but again, change the version number from 5.00.3900.7069 to 5.50.4134.7069 so that ME can use it.
  25. great idea, randiroo76073, though I took it a step further by not only doing a DELTREE /Y command on the WINDOWS folder in DOS but I also deleted the \PROGRAM FILES\ or \PROGRA~1\ folder. I like to have a clean set of files in the \PROGRAM FILES\ folder and in the \WINDOWS\ folder. to speed up deletion of files in DOS, run SMARTDRV first, then do the DELTREE command and then run Win98se setup.
