  1. i think that some of the WGA sH*t encourages the use of other Operating Systems that actualy DO work... // addition: i even know people who install cracked versions of windows VLK when there is a legit OEM XP-Pro licence avail. just because of al the WPA and WGA probs. i mean even on torrent sites there is a HUGE market for hacked files and installers to windows Updates, (its not on the bigg trackers, and i realy dont remember the addresses to them. - and if i would id never publish about them - because i dont like software piracy for a bit). but what i mean is that i seams to me that the good (paying) customers get the sh* that should be aimned at the freeloaders.
  2. yeah i know but what i meant was. - what pieces of software, are there, for x64 - i mean like i stil haven't seen x64-builds of > Firefox 1.5.x or Thunderbird, > OpenOffice (wich even seams to be un-ready for porting). > *Any Media Player (neither WinMediaPlayer, no'r other). > i even havn't seen a Nero x64 version... (yet?)
  3. both Q's in a single word - NO though inactive icon hiding could be done of you use an alternative shell (like aston). but if you try easy cd-creator, or nero (any OEM version would do). you could format some disks that migh get direct-cd true a driverhack. but i am unsure if this is true for windows 2k too, (i just use an oem version of nero)
  4. Being not realy experienced, with 64-systems (yet), i ask. what kinds of software DO and witch do NOT benefit from x64. so in other words, wich programms are already avail, that truely benifit. i now have a 64bit DeerPark 2.6a (pre firefox 1.5 if im right), bu i think id either better build a 64bit (1.5.03/4 or 2.0a version, or install a 32bit version... so what else????
  5. tnx this update pack SAVED me a D*mn lot of headakes.... | i just got my new pc (with nforce chipset) and XP Pro x64, it didn't work, and i got al kinds of BS ... my drivers wouldn't install, and windoze update didn't do a thing... so i reinstalled x32 version, and tried NLite and your pack. also downloaded a set of newer drivers and slipstremed them direct into the cd. and guess what.... all works - no probs, (just a big lack of x64 software).
  6. not to mention that 90% of his engergy bills is taken by his cpu .....
  7. thats is what a core switch would be a realy big help. in general, if this user only nead ADC (no mail or other features) a minimum of 2 (1 to work on + 1 to replicate) if youd want mail servers too, things wil be diferent verry mutch. but in that case you'd also better, think of contacting a consultant.
  8. my addvice (based on a system with Nivia chipset, and gforce 6200 (if not mistaking - ) just use 32bit xp until vista. and switch to home basic (as earo doesn't seam worth the $$$ and media center stuf, are avail plenty from the OSS world. (mediaportel for inst).
  9. i see that indead there were even better ways than i (anticipated and true, the more files you extract (to compress with only just 1 algarithm 7z or RAR ... is even better) ... so now i kind a wonder a bit. about how to make the 7z SFX file (as winrar seam to be able to specify a destination path, where 7z (that should in most cases be mutch better compressing) doesn't support sutch a command - that i know of.... so my Question.. do you move (or xcopy) all your oem files from %$$where-ever-temp$$%% folder to C:\OEM to get the to a more secure (against deleting) place..????
  10. btw. i do miss out on setup_w.bm(p) my winsetup just looks awfull .... hmmmz. another thing, if wread about enabling better vga modes (if your drivers are avail to winsetup (either in drivers.cab or in drivers-section on winnt.sif ... (aka method 1 of BTS-driverpacks). it involves editing of some .SIF-files ill look it up (i'd love to enable > 800x600 x 256 color @ 72hz ) note rather not add huge resolutions for laptop screens and stuf this seam a resonable yet safe middle way .... but for now i kinda made one
  11. you guys are both right ... it will cause some delay, compared to a complete non-compressed OEM folder. but if you intent to uses 7z.sfx (self-extracting installers). like used in most guide, my method will even slightly improve performance. i compared extracting the same folder from 1 file of about 250mb (64mb dict size), against about 20 files. (ranging from 2 to 20mb) who by the got my to a final count of 265mb) in time it decompressing the big file took about 5 seconds less. (on a dual core 1.8ghz) where using the same 67mb of ram... but true, copresion is un neaded and undesired if you dont exead the cdrom's drivespace... ow, and btw i migt have send the wrong message about the 7z version. | you nead 7za.exe instead of 7z.exe link to 7za HERE
  12. oke here is the deal. you have a lot of installers, and dont want to make 7ziped switchless installers for them, so dont, just compress your entire OEM folder and let it be copied form cmdlines.txt my example: ; cmdlines.txt [Commands] "runonceex.cmd" ; runonceex.cmd @echo off ;setting variables... SET KEY=HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnceEx SET PP=%systemdrive%\OEM\ ;extracting oem files... cmdow @ /HID 7za.exe x OEM.7z -o%PP% ;setting required registry settings for component install... REG ADD %KEY% /V TITLE /D "Installing Additional Components" /f REG ADD %KEY%\005 /VE /D "Microsoft DirectX 9c" /f REG ADD %KEY%\005 /V 1 /D "%PP%DX9\dxsetup.exe /silent" /f REG ADD %KEY%\010 /VE /D "Microsoft .NET Runtimes" /f REG ADD %KEY%\010 /V 1 /D "%PP%NET\dotnet1.exe " /f REG ADD %KEY%\010 /V 2 /D "%PP%NET\dotnet2.exe " /f REG ADD %KEY%\045 /VE /D "Paint . NET v2.6" /f REG ADD %KEY%\045 /V 1 /D "%PP%paintNET\PaintNET.exe /auto TARGETDIR=%PROGRAMFILES%\PaintNET JPGPNGBMPEDITOR=1 DESKTOPSHORTCUT=0" /f ;cleaning up oem folder and rebooting system... REG ADD %KEY%\100 /VE /D "Reboot System" /f REG ADD %KEY%\100 /V 1 /D "rd %PP% /s /q" /f REG ADD %KEY%\100 /V 2 /D "shutdown.exe /r /t 10" /f my directory: [ %CDROOT% ] \--- [ $OEM$ ] \------ [ $$ \ system32 ] \ cmdow.exe | OEM.7z | cmdlines.txt | 7za.exe | runonceex.cmd //update - corrected a mistake you nead 7za.exe instead of 7z.exe download HERE

    D*mn ~ The Guy - you ROCK
  14. yes. USP 5 can be slipstreamed like a normal windows 2000 service pack. you can use the normal commandline options or any tool (like Nlite) to do this. you can use win2k gold / sp1 / sp2 / sp3 / sp4 (both profesional / server / advanced server / datacenter-server (not tested on terminal server) on both english and US-english builds - note that no other languages are supported and also will not be in te future). ------------------- last time i heard about it /G was trying to get .NET runtimes intergrated but that IS realy tricky (if do-able at al).
  15. for mass storrage youd nead to find the win2k versions (they differ from the xp- versions (even though i havn't realy found any)).
  16. Litestep. do you want my, personal- or profesional opinion, (they are both, not verry nice, but in the end i just hope, i can use your resource-patches) in my uSP 5. (dx9 + .NET) install, because in the end i rather use explorer that doesn't look nice, than, litestep that ISN'T nice....
  17. Well, I'm trying to figure out how to stay compatible with WU without installing .NET 1.1+2.0 from the MSI/MSP. I might not succeed, but at least I'm having fun and how about Dx9??? because in the end there is a .NET 1.1 + 2.0 combined installer (silent), so in worsed-case id rather add that to hfslip.inf than never releasing at all.. BUT i do have some good news >>> it involves a: Gigabyte motherbord with Nforce 340 chiset, Gforce 6100 GPU, a dual core Amd opteron 165 (1,81ghz) 1mb cash 1.93gb DDR400 (dual channel mode) 153gb (in raid 5) Sata harddrives (provided bij 3 maxtor 300 (80gb)) 80gb (ata/133) WD - (as bootdrive) and than some... G i stil have to upgrade to windows xp 64bit edition and some other 64bit optimized software to get TRUE power, but as soon as you nead borrow some CPU power let me know, btw my cpu temp is even just below 40*C (105F). i probably should wel be able to clock it to 2.1ghz (just by raising my fanspeed a bit).
  18. if that doesn't happen befor i get my new computer, (hopefully sometime this week), ill let you use mine, to debug, if i dont have the same probs, that is...
  19. can you??? - cuz it would be briliant (even if it would take some time, befor you could start, (for whatever reason)),
  20. hmmz ill have a look at it later but if ms has the api's we might just ask for it in the dev forum LOL - after all its for MSFN project right? btw what is xpize using now than?????
  21. i dont intend to be crewl or anything, but the fact that you are even asking, tells me that im verry sorry for you but the only way may could end up on the top is by becommin in the blue (sponsored square). im gooing to tell you about 2 ways for search optimizing. (well actualy im not going to get you a howto, but rather tell you that to ways exist), 1> [the complete moron-like way] click on some webpage that says they can help you get to nr. 1 ranking, easy and quick for just a few bucks. well even as they ofter DO get you to the top, they use hacks to fake google in to thinking you have a good site, BUT as soon as google uncovers (and they will) your sceem - youll never be seen on google again. 2> [the hard way] start building a good site, > make it clean, > try to get a good user-experience, because you want users to come back often, and also want them to link to your site on thairs. > dont use to much flash and stuf like that, > and if you add images to your site dont forget to add the propper alternative text tag > use clean html or xhtml markup, and preferably also instead of <img width="82px" height="82px" alt="this image shows my logo">but instead use css markup. (either internal as <img style="width:82px;"> or as external style (from within a .css file), > if you want a popup menu, or that kinds of stuf, first look at a pure css trick to get it as most spiders like css better than js. > last of my tips, use proper metatags in your header, and use a sitemap to tell the spider where all your page's are. if you do all of the above and the other sites in your catthegory don't do it better than you, you might end up in the first 100 search results, if you also keap your site W3C compilant you might even get to the first 50 all the rest depends on luck and a strong site. but especialy luck
  22. lets look on google and some of the mayor OSS repo's im quite sure restuner is NOT the only commandline resource hacker that support 64bit... will update this post as soon as i either find a free or opensource editor for x64...
  23. just a quick Q (probably dumb one lol) this is for a grafical dos bot menu right???? will it in that case also support a 2.1gb mutiboot CD (not dvd), like for example MS uses for 'is cdroms *note: you can fit virtual 2gb of installers in an 800mb cdrom, if you normalie would have 3 win2k3 versions and burn a single file only to 1 location if it normal would have been added 3times). so now i ask if this boot manu also works on those kinds of cd's / dvd's
  24. i realy dont think that is actualy the prob as any 32bit apps wil perfectly run on a 64bit windows xp install, but i do think there might be a prob with the resources, because the may have swaped locations, as for all i know the logon resourse (for example) may now even be in the winboot.dll or whatever. so in the end its juist taking al the resources *.res files, and looking for thair equives, (if not on default location), and after that create either a batch file or maybe a realy simple installer. to do the trick. but the q that pops me to mind is whether there is a reference lis with all the resources + filenames + file locations
