  1. After looking around at a few places, im praying that this is it. I tried doing this with a usb connector.. which does not power the ipod.. im currently on the road now for work, but will give it a shot with my firewire connector when I get home. Thanks for the replies and Ill be sure to keep you all posted.
  2. heh... n1. and welcome to msfn
  3. Holy crap Alanoll.... nice work! That must have taken a good chunk of time to do. Great job man... cant wait to check it all out and learn so new stuff!
  4. Both... and the update is from back in mid-january, which Ive already verified did in fact come out on apples site... and I got the updater from apples site as well....
  5. Does anyone know of a way to use a batch for vbscript file to "Stop" a particular removable device as opposed to having to double click on the systray icon, click the device, click stop, then click ok... More specifically, I only need it for my USB key, which I swap in and out all the time Theres got to be a more automated way to do this.
  6. So i recently recieved a notification that my 3G ipod software needs to be updated... I run the iPod updater (2005-01-11) and switch back to my browser to continue surfing... I then get a a popup bubble from my system tray saying USB device not recognized... I look at my ipod and it has an image, which Ive never seen before, of what looks to be the end of the connector you use to connect iPod to your pc- the end that plugs into the iPod- with an arrow pointing away from it. It also makes a quiet click sound when it displays this... Now every time I plug it into my pc connection cord... or even try to turn it on for that matter! I get the apple logo for a sec, then the image of the connector with an arrow.... I even tried doing a reset and it does the exact same thing... What the hell did apple do to my ipod! It was working fine before all of this mess!! Ive already posted over at ipodlounge and ipodhacks, but have always gotten great responses here so thought Id see if anyone had a clue... Thanks!
  7. Come again now?
  8. @nodiaque I currently have 3 hard drives and 4 partitions as well as 2 cdroms: C: (hard drive 1 - full partition for system) D: (hard drive 2 - full parition for storage E: (hard drive 3 - 2nd part of a 2 partitioned drive for storage) P: (hard drive 3 - 1st part of a 2 partitioned drive for page file) I: CD-ROM 1 J: CD-ROM 2 After a reformat Windows defaults the drives to the following: C: (hard drive 1 - full partition for system) D: (hard drive 2 - full parition for storage E: (hard drive 3 - 2nd part of a 2 partitioned drive for storage) F: (hard drive 3 - 1st part of a 2 partitioned drive for page file) G: CD-ROM 1 H: CD-ROM 2 Ive got a method that automatically re-assigns the drive letters to my desired configuration before running RunOnceEx during my Unattended Installation.. Is this what youre looking for?
  9. Not sure if youre still around here Rogue, but perhaps anyone who is familar with this vbscript could answer my question. I was using the batch file version posted on the 1st page of this thread.. it worked like a charm... that was until I used it on my production system, that has firewire and vmware loaded on it.. It appears this batch file enables the network icon in the systray for EVERY network connections you have... I only want it for my NIC.. not my firewire connection or my VMWare virtual adapters... So my question.. does this script work so that it will only show my NICs? btw.. Ive tried the winnt.sif entries for this and it doesnt work.. which of course is probably why there are these work arounds... Thanks!!
  10. Actually, Ill have to admit theres definately something up with the search lately... I use the '+word1 +word2 +word3' all the time and it wasnt until the last couple weeks that I constantly get nothing but 'search not found please broaden search...' and these are things that I know have threads that contain the words Im searching for... What makes me think something has in fact changed... on the 'advanced search' screen (the search button at the top of the forum), I couldve sworn there used to be a link directly under the search field that when clicked brought up a pop up window with search tips or something... I know that it was in this pop up that I found out about the '+word1 +word2 etc' method of searching... Has it been updated / changed in the last couple weeks? For example.. try searching for any one of the following that claim there arent threads that meet the criteria: +netuser +password +expire but this thread does in fact contain each of these terms +network +tray hell, this thread has both of these in the title, let alone numerous times throughout the thread! These are just a couple examples and if you really want more, I can give you plently as Ive run into this issue numerous times over the last couple weeks. I hope someone figures something out with this cause up until recently, Ive never had a problem with finding what I need with the search function... let alone all of the duplicate questions newbs will post cause search didnt find it for them... but this thread Thanks!
  11. Nice work Cartoon... been looking for something just like this.
  12. Hey rico... are those keys in order of how their listed on your comment? (ie: 1st one is My Comp, 2nd is My Docs, etc... I only want to use a couple of them... Thanks!
  13. as far as I know.. youll never accomplish this, because runonceex runs at a stage prior to windows themes being applied. I suggest you take a look at WPI or something simliar if you want something pretty and flashy.
  14. Im not going to be back in the office for another month....
  15. Well I travel for work on a weekly basis, so they 'give' us our own laptop, but obviously when I leave this position I have to give the laptop back. Its not as though Im trying to be all sneaky, its just out MIS dept make these things into big issues and they would want my PC for a day or 2 trying to figure exactly whats wrong before finally re-installing it, and I just dont have the time for that. I also realize they probably wouldnt like employees reformatting thier PC's on a whim.. so Im just trying to make this as easy for me as I can. As far as admin rights.. yes, Im an admin of my PC.
  16. Only problem is I cant uninstall a bunch of my programs... Ill try out those boot time antivirus checkers... As far as re-installing.. heres the thing. If I were to reformat and reinstall I would need to do it without their help or them noticing. Ive got a my own copy of WinXP and grabbed the i386 folder from the install disk they use and I know there are ways I can find the CDKEY my pc is using now... so I could re-install. That leaves me with a few problems though.. 1. This laptop has Symantec AV installed and is setup to be managed via their symantec server... I obviously dont know the password and I would assume I would need to be on the network when I install this to select the syamtec server and whatnot... again, Im hardly ever in the office, so this would be difficult. 2. Ive got outlook installed which is setup to login to their exchange server.. which I dont have the slightest idea how to setup 3. Currently the account I use to log into my PC is a domain account.. not a local one.. so I wouldnt be able to create this account unless I have direct access to the network... 4. I dont have any domain admin access so I wouldnt be able to add myself back to the domain when I did get back into the office, right? So as you see, I dont think I would be able to reinstall windows without the assitance of my MIS dept, which I wouldnt have. If anyone thinks I would be able to get around the above issues, by all means speak up as I would have no problem with reformatting. Thanks for the suggestions guys! Keep em comin!
  17. meh... I havent had much luck with ntuser.. and im the only one who uses my pc anyway. Perhaps others will use it though... thanks!
  18. I only skimmed through this thread, but is all youre looking to do is find a way to ensure your drives are re-assigned to the way you want and not the default?
  19. Ive use 1 cd for 2 pcs and a seperate vmware install... I followed this method to create my multiboot images which each use seperate winnt.sif files. Then I use this code to run a common-runonceex, and then run the runonceex specific to the PC, based on the hostname set from winnt.sif: cmdow @ /HID @ECHO OFF call "..\Custom\ROE\ROE-Common.cmd" If %computername%==DUREXBOX GOTO DUREX If %computername%==SHUTTLEBOX GOTO SHUTTLE If %computername%==VMBOX GOTO VM :DUREX call "..\Custom\System\RenameDrives.cmd" call "..\Custom\ROE\ROE-durexbox.cmd" GOTO END :SHUTTLE call "..\Custom\ROE\ROE-shuttlebox.cmd" GOTO END :VM call "..\Custom\ROE\ROE-vmbox.cmd" GOTO END :END EXIT I then use MagicISO to create my multiboot ISO.
  20. Sigh.... and the hits just keep on comin.. tried running MicroTrend online scan.. it starts downloading the updates and every time, when it gets to 95% complete, I get the same error: I click retry and it does the exact same thing. So I try to run it without the updates and I get: I did a search on these errors and didnt come up with much... Now I was able to run Panda online virus scan and it worked fine and came up with zero viruses. And again... I cant reformat cause this isnt my pc.
  21. To be clear your 'Software' folder is on the same 'level' as your $OEM$ folder, correct? Assuming it is.. first off, D should be there.. in fact you can replace C with D, because I highly doubt there will ever be a time where you CDROM is C. Id say this is your exact issue... assuming you only have 1 hard drive. Secondly.. theres no point for the CD.txt.. that for %%i line is looking for 'WIN51' in the root of your cd, the CD.txt is just used in another method of setting your CDROM, you can remove this file.. and theres no reason to have it in multiple locations, including inside your $OEM$ folder. Make these adjustments and post back your results...
  22. daemon tools has absolutely nothing do to with booting to a cd... what are you using for VM software? VMWare or Microsofts piece of crap?
  23. No, really... its sick bigtime... Here are all of the symptoms Im experiencing.... 1. First off, when trying to install masai editor, I get the following error complaining that .Net Framework isnt installed.. but it is!: 2. Also, Ive got a program Im trying to install (which Ive installed without issue numerous times). It has both an exe and also an msi you can use... when I use the exe I get this error right before it goes to install: When I use the msi directly, I get this error: 3. Adaware hangs on 'comfile\shell\open\command' every time I run it. I read on lavasofts forums that a chkdsk may need to be run, so I ran it, but it said that it couldnt run and it would upon next reboot. Now, every reboot I get the message "cannot open volume for direct access" and chkdsk doesnt run, and windows just continues loading up. 4. Whenever I telnet to other PC's, if I let my session go without activity for about 20 seconds, it times out. There doesnt seem to be a problem if I continue working in my telnet session. This happens on multiple servers, with multiple telnet clients 5. I cant uninstall many programs. When I goto Add Remove progs and click remove on a program, the screen kinda flashes for a sec and does nothing... Ive tried 4 apps so far- 3 dont uninstall, 1 did. So that just about covers it... I can run Spybot without issue and it doesnt come up with anything bad.. and adaware doesnt find anything up to the point where it gets locked up. Now this isnt my PC, it belongs to my work, so it cant be reformatted and I work on the road about 98% of the time, so my MIS dept never has a chance to look at it. Who knows.. maybe most of these issues arent related, maybe they all are... all I know is my laptop isnt liking me right now. Any help is appreciated! Thanks guys.
  24. Your in luck! It just so happens this link has the answer to every one of thos questions! Welcome to msfn!
