Installing SQL Server 2000 is a sinch since its an installsheild... what I need to figure out now is how to configure it UA style... ie: create a couple databases with a couple non-default settings.. configure the logins, etc... Anyone know how to go about doing this? I also need to find out how to automatically create a couple ODBC connections which use the databases created in the previous step... Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated!
  3. I guess Im just not seeing it... but how does one simply print to a pdf with this PDFCreator?

Positive.. again, for both the sound card and game controller, when I goto install it, I choose, Dont Search and then Have Disk, then point it to the inf thats in my drviers\soundcard directory.. once I do this, it installs without an issue. Only thing I can think of is I had both the soundcard and game port drivers in the same folder... I figured since they were both from the same driver "pack" from soundblaster that it would be fine... Ive since placed the game port controller drivers into its own seperate directory and updated my winnt.sif to reflect this... I havent tested it since I made this change, however. Would this have been the issue?
  5. Im having some issues with drivers on my UA cd. Ive placed the necesary driver files in their own seperate folders for each piece of hardware (ie: $OEM$\$1\drivers\D_001_network, D_002_graphics, etc). Ive placed the correct paths in winnt.sif (ie: OemPnPDriversPath = "drivers\D_000_chipset;drivers\D_001_network,etc") But some arnt being installed. More specifically, my monitor (Sony G410), Soundcard (Audigy Platnium) and the gameport on the Audigy. After the install is complete they just show the yellow exclamation mark (except for the monitor, which just uses the generic driver). Now if I choose Update Driver on each component and browse to the inf located in the driver folder Ive created, they install without issue, so I know I have the correct files in there... I just cant figure out why theyre not automatically installing during Windows installation. Thanks!
  6. Ha.. youre exactly correct! Now you also probably noticed there are 2 additional executables in that package.. "DotNetDetectComponents.exe" and "MsiWebBootStrap.exe". Im assuming the 1st simply does what its called... detects to make sure you Have .Net framwork install... which I do, so Im not worried about that. The second installer is actually what is actually called from the SFX package... it looks like its some sort of install updater, but Im not really sure... does this look familar to you in any way?

Apologies for misunderstanding your original reply... just the way you worded and and the fact that it really was the 2nd link on google after adobes web site made me think all you did was search 'PDF' and post the 1st thing you saw. I just know that some people are quick to jump on the 'use search!' bandwagon (even through half the time its definately called for). Thanks again!
  8. @Simon I thought I saw someplace in this thread that your latest installer creates a start menu shortcut that uses the "-profile defaults\profile". Also thought I saw as well that you removed the IE import wizard from being run upon 1st firefox launch. I dont see a new shortcut and Im still getting the import wizard... was I mistaken? Thanks!
  9. Yea.. I have the installer... but havent figured out how to silently install it. Ive extracted the stuff inside it, but not sure exactly how to silently install the seperate components.. or what order it needs to go in. ff_installer.exe /s doesnt install silently.. tried /qn as well.. cant tell what kind of installer it is.
  10. So youre saying that all you did was search for 'pdf' and post the next link to pdf creator after adobes site? Know how to use a search engine thanks. Again.. looking for suggestions on a pdf creator. As in something youve actually tried and like..

Heres the thing.. you should have 2 accounts... the user account you create by using the 'net user method' on that link you posted, which is you main account you use on a daily basis... then theres an Administrator account, which Windows install creates and needs. Unless you want to always login using the Administrator account and ditch your custom account (which is not recommended), youre always going to have at least 2 user accounts.

  13. You mean the Administrator account? That should be the only account that winnt.sif creates... and no, you cant delete it. Its a system account.
  14. Anyone recommend a small, basic PDF creator? Not looking for the bells and whistles of Acrobat Pro... just something that allows you to print / save webpages to PDF. Thanks!

  18. Im pretty sure you wouldnt get a loop if it was a bootable cd... it would just simply boot to the cd automatically if you had it in there

  23. @ tguy- I have those exact same settings, short of the repartition settting, which I have set to Yes... and mine doesnt do a full ntfs format. It only does the quick one... I was under the impression it wasnt possible to set this for an unattended install....

  25. Well.. sure enough all it needed was to be plugged into a power source. Worked fine after that. Thanks again guys. @Blam-0 Just to give you a heads up... youre comparing apples to oranges with the iriver to ipod.. iriver uses flash memory, ipods use solid state (aka hard drives).. flash memory is much more expensive than hard drives, which is why theres such a price difference. As far as problems, this is the only one Ive had, and sure enough it was my own fault anyway. I know a bunch of ppl that have em and havent had problems... The only thing of course is its notorious battery life. Ive had it not even a year and Im down to 4-6 hours of battery life, which sucks. Other than this.. i love the friggin thing.
