Acer laptops all have dedicated VRAM on their video cards. Most modern non-motherboard based video cards (i.e. ATI or nVidia) have dedicated VRAM. And how is the TravelMate "made" for traveling? They've both got the same specs (give or take), the same weight, and the same size. The only physical difference between the two is the curved keyboard of the Travelmate vs the standard keyboard of the Aspire. The more I think about it the more I'm going to say the Aspire. You can see the specs I've got in my sig, so I've got a laptop that's the same size as what you have. I actually don't notice the standard keyboard layout that much, and I can still usually type at about 60 wpm when I'm not trying very hard (and I haven't had to write that much lately... ). The curved keyboard is nice, but not worth the price difference, especially with the extra specs the Aspire has.

Google - "integrate SP2" Google - "integrate hotfixes XP" Either that or use nLite to do the dirty work for you. You don't have to remove anything with nLite. This is actually how I do most of my UA CDs, nLited or not.

I"m guessing that the Aspire has better features. I have a friend who has the Travelmate 8100 (*drool*) and the curved keyboard may seem strange at first, but it's extremely comfortable to type on. The straight keyboard can sometimes be straining on the wrists as you sometimes have to press your wrists inwards to get them aligned with the keys. If you have used a standard laptop keyboard before and don't mind them, then I'd say go for the Aspire. If you have the chance to test the two out before you buy, I'd do that. There's nothing better than 10 minutes of using a laptop before you buy it. I chose my laptop over another similarly priced model because the keys and touchpad feel much better than the other models I tried. Without that, I wouldn't be able to use my laptop as easily as I do.

That would be a good idea. It would help new members find out about the basics of what programs are meant to do, and would help reduce the number of posts that spawn from confusion.

I just gave Vista Beta 1 a try on my laptop. I was happily surprised that it reckognized my video card and audio card right away. There are still a couple of things that are annoying (such as the lack of touchpad support), but I'm sure that I'll be able to work things out in the end.

@Wolf_Demon - That's probably just a KVM switch... lets you have one set of controls (Keyboard, Video, Mouse) for multiple computers. Nothing really special...

If the power goes out... wouldn't your phone/modem/router go out as well?

You can get Winamp with the iPod plugin. Some quick searching should get you what you need.

@Wolf_Demon - That still wouldn't explain how iTunes would be able to "remember" the settings. When the drive is formatted, a new MFT is created. Without special tools, you would not be able to access the old files.

I thought that MCE was based on Pro minus the domain capabilities, but it still has the others in there (GPO for example).

Quick question about the 64-bit guest support... does the host have to be running a 64-bit OS? I.e. can you run a VM with Linux x86-64 from 32-bit WinXP (on a 64-bit CPU of course)?

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Command Processor] "AutoRun"="" "CompletionChar"=dword:0000040 "DefaultColor"=dword:00000000 "EnableExtensions"=dword:00000001 "PathCompletionChar"=dword:00000040 Copy that into notepad and save it as CommandPromptDefaults.reg (or whatever.reg) and run it. That should solve your problems.

You could also install TweakUI to help you find the setting. There's a setting in there to remove the recycle bin. Use RegShot to find the differences before and after the tweak is applied and then add that to your RegTweaks.

I've had my first crack at Vista (the operating system formerly known as Longhorn ), and I'd have to say that I most definately like the layout of Vista a lot better. The ability to quicky move to another subfolder is golden! Not to mention, that some text on the screen describing the window is probably more useful than a tiny thumbnail.

All non-mobile ATI cards should work with this. I tried installing these on my laptop, but no luck... Only 5.6 will work for me... (even after modding the installer)

Can I throw in another suggestion... put a pagefile on both the raptor and the secondary hard drive. Windows will take care of the rest to give you the best overall performance. It will find where it can fastest access the pagefile and the files that you need, and adjust as needed. If you have two disks, I've found it better to put a System Managed pagefile on both.

@dirtwarrior - Re-read the thread. There's a URL with all the info that you'd need. You just flash the modded firmware like you would any other firmware.

Yeah... but when you start up your comptuer, are all your programs up and running already? Hibernation can do that for you ... And there aren't any 10K raptors for laptops either...

Maybe Apple is using "Big Brother" tactics now... storing the location of your music on their servers, and then updating your software when you re-install it...

Umm... what? The AeroShell/AveShell project has nothing to do with shell32.dll. As for the original question, I'm not sure of any direct links to pre-made packages, but you could always find an icon set that you like and reshack your shell32.dll file with those icons. It's a bit more work, but you'll end up with what you want in the end.

Kinda creepy... And the first time that you had installed iTunes, you had to tell it where to look for your music, right?
