How big is that "40GB" drive of yours? 38.1GB perhaps? The "problem" that you have is the same for everyone. We (the users) consider 1GB to be 1 GB * 1024 MB/GB * 1024 kB/MB * 1024 bytes/kB = 1,073,741,824 bytes Maufacturers, on the other hand, consider 1 GB to be 1GB * 1000 MB/GB * 1000 kB/MB * 1000 bytes/kB = 1,000,000,000 bytes This works out to be a savings on their part of about 7%. Fit that into your hard drive, and you've got your missing space (7% of 200GB = 14GB "missing"). Long story short, this is normal. You probably could have found the answer by searching as well though... I'm being nice tonight...
