  1. Did you forget to search? You're going to need something running to keep track of the time. IMO, the task scheduler service is the easiest way to go...
  2. Ah yes... that'll take up a bit of space. Have fun with your new toy!
  3. @ prathapml - Yup... it's always a good idea to stick with K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Stupid) I guess this was meant more as a basis for new ideas to be built into Firefox. IBM always was anti-Microsoft... most of their laptop drivers don't even work properly under SP2...
  4. Well what do you want to do about it? Thats the way these things have worked pretty much from the start... it's only now that you start noticing it because of the larger hard drives. 186GB is a lot of space to play with... I know since I've got that at home and I haven't filled it up yet...
  5. Thanks! I'll have a look into that.
  6. How big is that "40GB" drive of yours? 38.1GB perhaps? The "problem" that you have is the same for everyone. We (the users) consider 1GB to be 1 GB * 1024 MB/GB * 1024 kB/MB * 1024 bytes/kB = 1,073,741,824 bytes Maufacturers, on the other hand, consider 1 GB to be 1GB * 1000 MB/GB * 1000 kB/MB * 1000 bytes/kB = 1,000,000,000 bytes This works out to be a savings on their part of about 7%. Fit that into your hard drive, and you've got your missing space (7% of 200GB = 14GB "missing"). Long story short, this is normal. You probably could have found the answer by searching as well though... I'm being nice tonight...
  7. Nice setup there Famer! What VS is that? it looks a lot like RoyalFour, but I don't have that shade of grey...
  8. Eep... Intel graphics *shudders* I'm not too sure about those... are there any advanced options in the Display settings that you might be able to play around with?
  9. Are you connecting this to your laptop? There should be options within the ATI Control Panel to shift the image to the right. I can't remember what it's called, since I don't have a chance to hook up another monitor to my laptop right now. Look under the Displays panel.
  10. As for prompting for a password, check under the Power Options. For the second question, are you talking about power down or power up? For both there isn't really all that much you can do. That's about as fast as you'll get your computer to be ready without drawing any power while it's off.
  11. Link ESET Home
  12. Or use hibernation... it's almost instant at about 5 seconds.
  13. POOKY!!!! Wow Dagonet'! You're on a roll this week! Glad to see you back
  14. @]Bonkers[ - Having a good summer so far? Good work on the competition. [/offtopic] Have you tried de-bricking the router? There's a guide at linksysinfo.org on how to do it (you jumper a couple of pins while turning on the router).
  15. RDRAM isn't that cheap... but I'd still suggest getting some more and looking into nLiteing the stuff that you know you won't be needing. Don't do anything hardcore if you're not looking for trouble.
  16. Windows is running on the default drivers during installation, but still has those drivers loaded during the installation phase. During boot-up, the drivers have not been loaded yet. Notice that during installation, you see the boot screen before the installation screen.
  17. You should be able to transfer files through your router without any need for a crossover cable. If you do want to use the crossover cable, you'll need to manually assign an IP to both the connected NICs. In my experience, it's tricky (if not **** near impossible) to set up a network so that the internet works on one connection and file transfers on another. I've tried, and just ended up banging my head against the wall because of it... then I got an 802.11g wireless card...
  18. It still wouldn't help. Think about it from an information (i.e. info = quality) point of view. The MP3s you have contain a certain amount of information. Putting that info into a larger storage container isn't going to increase the amount of information you have. You're either stuck with keeping your collection as it is, or re-ripping it at a higher quality. With VBR settings in CDex, a 70min CD comes out at 80-100MB for me, and I've never been able to tell the difference between that and the CD.
  19. First off... can your motherboard support SATA II? What is the rest of your hardware? Sometimes, the hard drive won't be your speed bottleneck.
  20. I've always found MP3-VBR (Variable Bit Rate) to be the "best" format. Almost all music players support it, and it's simple to rip to (using CDex). If you've already got MP3s, then converting them to another file format won't increase their quality. In fact, you'll probably end up with worse sounding music if you convert from one format to the other. I've heard that Vorbis (.ogg) files will give you good quality for space. You might want to look into that.
  21. Nope... there's no way of doing this. It's because Windows hasn't loaded your video drivers before this point, and therefore is working on the VGA defaults. I do agree that it would be nice to have something with a little more colour...
  22. I've said this before... and I'll say it again. Modifying the boot screen itself is like playing with fire... you might end up with a dud computer! Use BootSkin from StarDock instead. You'll always have the option of getting into Safe Mode to remove the boot skin if anything goes wrong, something that you can't do if you bugger up your ntoskrnl.exe file.
  23. Haha.... thanks for that!
  24. I just found this funny pic and decided to share... I'd love to get a costume like that for Halloween and go around with that sign... only change it to "need candy to build Death Star".
  25. Hehe...I should post up a link to the George Carlin - Usage of the F-word skit... Would this be allowed by mods? I'd put big warning signs around it that it's not work safe and has swearing in it, but it is funny.
