shell32.dll replacements

Featured Replies

Anybody know any good hi-res shell32.dll replacements (sp2) apart from GANT? I tried looking at deviantART and I found the GANT one but the search function is disabled so its pretty hard to find any.

Thanks

Umm... what?

The AeroShell/AveShell project has nothing to do with shell32.dll.

As for the original question, I'm not sure of any direct links to pre-made packages, but you could always find an icon set that you like and reshack your shell32.dll file with those icons. It's a bit more work, but you'll end up with what you want in the end.

Zxian, what other files would you reccommend I edit the icons of apart from shell32.dll and explorer.exe or are all the system icons in those two files?

Do you want to directly replace shell32.dll or do you want an alternative UI for windows?

The former is kind of hard.

If you are open to the latter there are all kinds of possibilities.

I want to replace every single icon with high resolution ones (the kind you get on OS X) but I dont want a mac imitation, just some nice icons and slightly modify a couple of other bits and pieces. what would you suggest? Ive tried IconPackager and it doesnt even replace half of the system icons so it looks really messy? I thought it may be best to do it manually unless there are other alternatives?

Look at the stuff on stardock.com to see what's possible. A google search will bring up all kinds of alternatives to the $50- cost of Stardock Object Desktop.

then go for crystal xp shell file.it gives u high-res icons with 3d-crystal edges.

give it a try

How do I create my own shell totally?

I think mine is highly reshed..

if unpacked it is about 40 MB

all the Icons, Bitmaps, and AVI are changed

but the strings are intact
