  1. Over at Bleeping Computer, this topic has also been discussed: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/648063/security-updates-for-vista-after-end-of-support-windows-server-2008-patches/#entry4268785
  2. Who is the best moderator to contact regarding moving these last few posts regarding Vista updates?
  3. Actually, I did mean to post it in that thread. Perhaps a moderator could move it for us ....lol. And guess what, I'll bet that I was the first one to even entertain the idea of manual extended updates for Window 8 from its "server" counterpart. NO ONE was even discussing the idea before I brought it up. And immediately at the time, I thought to myself, I wonder if that could be applied to Vista. Remember, this was October 2015. Even when I mentioned it on the DM Forums for Windows 8 and Vista, members there poo-pooed the idea. So I would put serious money down that I was among the first to even think of the idea.
  4. Hey Look! We have copy cats over at Bleeping Computer ...lol https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/648063/security-updates-for-vista-after-end-of-support-windows-server-2008-patches/
  5. I came across this on the K-Meleon Forum. Might be worth discussing. http://kmeleonbrowser.org/forum/read.php?12,141988
  6. Meee too! Although, I do use Firefox compatibility in the Options menu. @Zollex, are you using the Goanna setting?
  7. Is it just me, or does anyone hear Arnold's voice when they read geenhillmaniacs' posts? Sometimes I imagine the other posters as their avatar when they type posts.... lol. I imagine NoelC flapping his wings and making angry "caw" sounds when he unloads on Windows 10 ...lol. Am I the only person that does that?
  8. I posted this over at sevenforums.com. I was told that most of the improvement that went into v2x was UI and stability related, and that most of the detection and cleaning ability in v1.75 was still as good. I wonder if two years later (since this thread was last posted in), is this still the case? https://www.sevenforums.com/system-security/240099-latest-version-malwarebytes-133.html
  9. Ta-Daaaaaaaaaaa June updates are installed, and Windows 8 surived (or rebooted) to tell about it!
  10. Well today is Patch Tuesday, so I'll be interested in seeing how updates go on Vista today. I'll awaiting Server 2012 updates in the Microsoft Catalog, and updating my Windows 8 findings later. Hope it goes well.
  11. I worry that one day there will be some killer application for Windows 10, that requires me to install it. I hope it will work in Wine by that point ...lol. I can't see myself changing my stance on windows 10.
  12. Tsk tsk tsk .... that's not an educated opinion. Out of the box, perhaps. But Windows 8 can be molded in to a VERY VERY productive environment. Better than Windows 7 - hands down! )
  13. They wouldn't want this turkey, but I don't think Microsoft cares (nor does any company). Geeks are no longer the audience. Take Firefox for example and it's ongoing showdown to XUL-ageddon in November. A lot of devoted power users think, "Why did Mozilla abandon their original audience"?. The answer is "Because the audience changed.". It used to be claiming to be the answer to IE 6 and all of it's problems. Geeks were a viable crowd to go after. But no it's the mobile crowd. They ddn't actually abandon the geek crowd, as really they were never that committed to them. That's just where the action was. I think Microsoft is late to the game on mobility. I know they can't stay in PC land because they have to be seen by their shareholders as adapting (or at least trying to). I don't know what I would advise this company
  14. So far that appears to have fixed things. Thank you UCyborg!
  15. I think we have a winner I'll uncheck to run ASAP if missed.
  16. No sorry. Real Time Protection is ON. Let me check though to see if the task runs when missed.
  17. Very interesting and very helpful Just to make sure I'm clear, the Windows Update service is on, but Automatic Updating is off. So I only update Windows Defender either manually, or with Task Scheduler. This error appears to have gone away now that I don't include Windows Defender in Ccleaner, so that's maybe one down. But when I boot my system and login to the desktop, after about two minutes, Windows Defender starts scanning my whole system. How can I stop that scan from happening? Again, so far the help has been terrific. Thank you so much
  18. I was looking at Q4OS. Do they use Debian repositories or software packages? I like the idea of installing it to an ARM device, but I'm not sure what Debian build is needed for that. I checked out the link that Q4OS provided, but there are a few ARM entries.
  19. You "nailed" it on all counts jaclaz
  20. I was about to link to this. It appears that a few of us need to line up face against the wall and prepare for a lashing. Please whip gently
  21. And they can remove the installed payload of "Removed Components" using the DISM command, but be careful with this one. https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/joscon/2012/11/20/features-on-demand-in-windows-8-and-windows-server-2012/
  22. Also with Dibya's ExtendedXP setup, apparently Pale Moon v27.3x can run. I'd like to find out more information about that for sure.
  23. Wait a sec though, are you saying that you made Waterfox work with compatibility mode?
  24. Now that is good to know. A lot of Waterfox users would want to know that. Even though I think XP and the Internet should now divorce each other, there are still those seeking a 64-bit browsing option on XP.
  25. So if I were running XP or Windows 2000 on a FAT32 partition (which I actually did back in the day), are you saying I'd be immune to Wanna cry(pt)?
