It's kinda like how the Windows XP Forums here at xpforums.com cater to an old OS, however they recently had to upgrade to new forum software, which puts it out of the reach of many compatible browsers. I hear ya! Imagine if I were putting out a podcast about "getting back to simplicity and life - and telling people how to get out more and leave the PC and smartphone behind" ... but guess what? You still need a computer to listen

Looks lie Opera doesn't render anti-aliasing fonts properly, no?

I'm using Pale Moon 27.4 x64 and Nightly 57. Both work so far

Server 2008 Updates on Windows Vista
Jody Thornton replied to Jody Thornton's topic in Windows Vista
There was another Vista Forum at vistaforums.com. It's sleepy over there too, but you may have better luck discussing what has been here at MSFN. It's quite sleepy over there right now, but perhaps an MSFN takeover might inspire new life. -
Server 2008 Updates on Windows Vista
Jody Thornton replied to Jody Thornton's topic in Windows Vista
One more note on vistax64.com. Once a great forum, but the DM forums for Windows Vista and Windows 8 have shown little interest in the threads I created for using Server 2012 and Server 2008 updates. I created both of the threads here, and they've taken on their own life. In fact I've pretty much bowed aside. -

I noticed that XP/Vista forums are gone, and the fonts is different. Also the heading is grey (similarly to when the page is half-rendered) -
I'm really going to miss reading your Windows 8 and 10 posts Noel. Some thoughtful analysis there. I did save your Scheduled Tasks list. I know I'll forget to keep something I wanted here, I just know it Cheers

Server 2008 Updates on Windows Vista
Jody Thornton replied to Jody Thornton's topic in Windows Vista
I take it August went well? Hope so I think what saddens me most about the end of the board is the history here. Even go and look at some of the early Windows XP threads (prior to 9/11 even). It was a different time with different people on the board here. And the oooodles of tips as well. It's so sad. -

Well I'm at jodythornton@yandex.com. I can be reached there. The first thing I'm grabbing is NoelC's scheduled task tweaks. There are sooooooooooo many gems here. -

Me too! Holy Crap! -
Oh Gawd! I didn't know this. Holy Crap that's Saturday! This is AWFUL news! How did I miss it?

There doesn't appear to be any .NET updates.. Now I have a real treat in front of me. I had to perform a complete reinstall of Windows 8. I buggered up my profile folder. Oh well, I've been back in service for a week, but I've only updated up until January 2016. Sooooooo ..... out comes my USB drive full of updates from the past year and a half.....lol. Oh fun!
-
Shoot! I forgot yesterday was patch Tuesday. Oh well, I've been way too busy ....lol. But I'll bring my update results to the board later today or tomorrow.

However some pages on IE 10 are beginning to fail at properly rendering (not just useragent issues either). I may try it at some point.
-
Hmmm - I wonder if the same trick can bring IE 11 to Windows 8

OS/2 5.0 ??? (Sure, but now it goes by as ArcaOS 5.0)...
Jody Thornton replied to dencorso's topic in Other Operating Systems
Yes like eComstation, Blue Lion (or sorry - ArcaOS) is a licensed finished product, and IBM allowed licensed use of the final OS/2 with the convenience pack and security update installed. The Blue Lion folks just added their own toys like eComstation did. I tried running eComstation 2x on a VM a couple years ago. QTWeb was about the only browser I could reliably get working, but it was slow as snot. These companies are trying to cash in on a deprived market who want a new OS/2 version on bare metal. For eComstation, you had to buy the release of OpenOffice that they had available. Completely silly I think. -
Hi Folks: What happens is when I type a message in a text input box, I don't see what I've type until about five to six seconds has gone by. This happens on any Gecko browser. The same symptom shows up in Firefox (release), Firefox Nightly, K-Meleon and Pale Moon. The symptom is NOT exhibited in Vivaldi. If you go to this classified ad page: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-stereo-systems-home-theatre/ottawa/vintage-garrard-zero-100-c-turntable/1268246216?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true On the mid-right, click on the box that reads "Hi, I'm interested! Please contact me if this is still available." Erase what's there and pretend to respond to the ad by typing something. If I type two or three lines, it takes FOREVER to show up. This only happens on Kijiji (the classified site), and on a Gecko browser? I've cleared cache and reinstalled from scratch, but no improvements have revealed themselves.

Do you have this update installed? KB3163589 Out of Date Notification is all it provides. Remove it! Hope that helps

I think the reason for lag on those CPUs is less internal CPU cache. So less instructions can be quickly recalled. Someone else may be better to chime in though.

Ta-Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Thanks to SFC /scannow. I was able to update, but because it reset WinMail.exe to the original file, I have to re-apply the Windows Mail hack to get it working again on Windows 8. Oh and also MS Paint - I need to grab that again from Vista Thanks to everyone for their help. Cheers All!

Crap. I was almost hoping someone else had the experience. I just wonder what's missing on my system, especially when EVERY OTHER update works. Wow, I just can't figure this one out. I was even trying to go through the DISM and the CBS log just to see if I could decipher anything. EDIT/UPDATE: Went through clearing out the Software Distribution folder and re registering all of the DLL components for Windows Update. Still no improvement. If worse comes to worse, I will try both the rollup and security-only for August, and see if it updates.

Valiant attempt at a suggestion my friend, but alas it still failed. Now I had run a reg hack awhile that hid Libraries. When an update makes libraries reappear again, you can experience renaming directory issues. I re-hid the libraries again, thinking maybe this was causing file directory structure issues for Windows Update, but no, that wasn't it. Oh well, don't stress yourself greenhillmaniac, but do I appreciate your suggestions. It was a weird one. Maybe others will chime in with their experience.

Oh well. I'll have to further extract this cab, and then see if there's anything inside there. I can see the Cat files, and all the stuff that ends up in the component store.
