I will do that later this morning. My cat woke me up early ....lol - It's 6am here and I've been up for two hours
-
I attempted installation of the monthly rollup. It has also failed. Be mindful of the fact that I've attempted uninstalling this month's Flash, IE10 and last month's security-only update. I then ran a cleanup of my Component Store using the DISM command discussed earlier. Then I installed the removed updates after a restart. They all worked. But not this month's rollup or security-only patches. It has to be something specific to this month's updates. One added not. I attempted running the Windows Update Repair Tool: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/instantanswers/512a5183-ffab-40c5-8a68-021e32467565/windows-update-troubleshooter Sadly, it also failed with a 0x80070002 error.
-
I also have an Error 2147942402 showing in the Event Log
-
Yes after several attempts (and making sure that I have the right update), KB4025343 (which is the security-only update for Server 2012) does not install on Windows 8. I get a 0x80070002 error show up in Event Viewer. Trying to run "DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth" to see if this fixes the issue, but it's just the single update Edit/Update: After cleaning the Component Store, the update still fails
-
Hmmm the main update did not install (KB4025343), but I'll have to check it out when I get home
-
Well I have updates for Adobe Flash (KB4025376), IE 10 (KB4025252) and Security-Only (KB4025343). The only .NET Framework updates appear to be for Windows 10. So time to install. I'll see you on the other side of the boot.

Windows Defender Boot Scan and Update Questions
Jody Thornton replied to Jody Thornton's topic in Windows 8
Does anyone know how I can source the Windows Defer 4.9 engine? I wonder if it will install and update on Windows 8 RTM. -
Props to 2008WindowsVista, Burd and VistaLover for straightening out all of this. It's very helpful, but it's also illustrating the lessening options for x64 browsing on Vista.

Apparently, Waterfox and Cyberfox 52x both support Vista. In both cases this should include x64 support. Waterfox regular release post-52x have not been running on Vista however. Edit: Cyberfox v52.2 has removed Vista support. It was removed after v52.0 (however the developer cites that even the x86 version does NOT work - yet Firefox v52x does - WTF???)

Server 2008 Updates on Windows Vista
Jody Thornton replied to Jody Thornton's topic in Windows Vista
Over at Bleeping Computer, this topic has also been discussed: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/648063/security-updates-for-vista-after-end-of-support-windows-server-2008-patches/#entry4268785 -

Actually, I did mean to post it in that thread. Perhaps a moderator could move it for us ....lol. And guess what, I'll bet that I was the first one to even entertain the idea of manual extended updates for Window 8 from its "server" counterpart. NO ONE was even discussing the idea before I brought it up. And immediately at the time, I thought to myself, I wonder if that could be applied to Vista. Remember, this was October 2015. Even when I mentioned it on the DM Forums for Windows 8 and Vista, members there poo-pooed the idea. So I would put serious money down that I was among the first to even think of the idea.

I came across this on the K-Meleon Forum. Might be worth discussing. http://kmeleonbrowser.org/forum/read.php?12,141988

Meee too! Although, I do use Firefox compatibility in the Options menu. @Zollex, are you using the Goanna setting?

Is it just me, or does anyone hear Arnold's voice when they read geenhillmaniacs' posts? Sometimes I imagine the other posters as their avatar when they type posts.... lol. I imagine NoelC flapping his wings and making angry "caw" sounds when he unloads on Windows 10 ...lol. Am I the only person that does that?

Malwarebytes-is older better?
Jody Thornton replied to OldSchool38's topic in Malware Prevention and Security
I posted this over at sevenforums.com. I was told that most of the improvement that went into v2x was UI and stability related, and that most of the detection and cleaning ability in v1.75 was still as good. I wonder if two years later (since this thread was last posted in), is this still the case? https://www.sevenforums.com/system-security/240099-latest-version-malwarebytes-133.html -

Server 2008 Updates on Windows Vista
Jody Thornton replied to Jody Thornton's topic in Windows Vista
Well today is Patch Tuesday, so I'll be interested in seeing how updates go on Vista today. I'll awaiting Server 2012 updates in the Microsoft Catalog, and updating my Windows 8 findings later. Hope it goes well. -
I worry that one day there will be some killer application for Windows 10, that requires me to install it. I hope it will work in Wine by that point ...lol. I can't see myself changing my stance on windows 10.
-
Tsk tsk tsk .... that's not an educated opinion. Out of the box, perhaps. But Windows 8 can be molded in to a VERY VERY productive environment. Better than Windows 7 - hands down! )

They wouldn't want this turkey, but I don't think Microsoft cares (nor does any company). Geeks are no longer the audience. Take Firefox for example and it's ongoing showdown to XUL-ageddon in November. A lot of devoted power users think, "Why did Mozilla abandon their original audience"?. The answer is "Because the audience changed.". It used to be claiming to be the answer to IE 6 and all of it's problems. Geeks were a viable crowd to go after. But no it's the mobile crowd. They ddn't actually abandon the geek crowd, as really they were never that committed to them. That's just where the action was. I think Microsoft is late to the game on mobility. I know they can't stay in PC land because they have to be seen by their shareholders as adapting (or at least trying to). I don't know what I would advise this company
