  1. I use Boot-US for many years to boot different OSs from different partitions. I don't know if it is what you are looking for. This boot manager can be installed on a floppy disk what I did on my old computers. It has so much features I can't describe here. Maybe, you first have a look here: https://www.boot-us.de/eng/ And here is the full documenatation: https://www.boot-us.de/eng/manual_eng.pdf You can manage booting of other OSs such as Linux besides Windows partitions, too. Partitions can be simply or truly hidden. It is possible to set exactly which other logical partitions may be seen when booting from a primary partition.
  2. If one observes such an issue, then it should actually be reported to the issues of Mypal 68 on GitHub. @feodor2 relies on such feedback to improve its browser and fix bugs. Here is the link to his issues: https://github.com/Feodor2/Mypal68/issues
  3. My sudden freezes last as long as I have killed the process palemoon.exe. The browser does not regenerate by itself. Restarting New Moon 28 then is no problem, though. But I can't really say under which circumstances this happens. Months ago, I didn't have that problem. Anyway! I'll try to observe that more attentively next time it freezes again.
  4. Spoken for me only (but I think many others may agree) I couldn't care less. I am not really interested in any skins or icon design inside a browser. The browser and its capabilities are what really interest me. And one thing is clear, the choice under Windows XP is limited due to well-known reasons.
  5. You avoid a browser due to an icon with a nice raccoon? Seriously? 🦝
  6. Has anyone here also noticed a sudden freeze of the New Moon 28 browser from time to time? It happens rarely and started with one of the latter releases. I can't say exactly with which one, nor under which conditions this problem occurs. I am interested first of all in whether it is only me who is affected or others as well.
  7. Quite possible. But I do NOT use nor "support" single-process browsers in 2023! Unlike 360Chrome, everyone can decide for themselves whether they want to use Mypal 68 in single-process or multiprocess mode. I only said that I prefer the very stable single-process mode because of my low-power Windows XP computer. But this does not mean that multiprocess mode is unstable. On the contrary! It is supposed to be quite stable by now. With Mypal 68, the code, especially with regard to the JavaScript engine, which is now at level 78, is constantly being developed and corrected by @feodor2. Maybe, your observations in terms of stability are not up-to-date. Here is a link to the most recent release of Mypal 68 in the version 68.13.2b: https://github.com/Feodor2/Mypal68/releases/download/68.13.2b/mypal-68.13.2.en-US.win32.zip :OT I see you like my self-created smiley I allowed you to grab. Enjoy it! :End of OT
  8. It would be strange if you didn't. That is simply not true. Mypal 68 is very stable in single-process mode. Moreover, @feodor2 has made a special effort in the last two releases to ensure stability even in multi-process mode, apparently successfully. And the best of all, this browser is actively being developed further . I personally do not use this browser in multiprocess mode at all. But all I can say is that Mypal 68 in single-process mode runs super stable and is the only browser in my Windows XP system that has not crashed once. I can't say that about any other browser. @roytam1's browsers are absolutely great, but Google service are always problematic on these browsers. Google stuff works without any problems on Android tablets and smartphones. I am additionally an Android user, and I am writing this comment from my Android tablet as most of my posts. But, I personally never used Google Voice. No trust, no need! I talk to others either personally or call them by (smart)phone.
  9. Solution for the error code 0x80244004 while accessing the WU/MU website using ProxHTTPSProxy or HTTPSProxy If getting error code 0x80244004 while accessing the WU/MU website using ProxHTTPSProxy or HTTPSProxy, one should check or perform step 11 of my complete guide for restoring IE's access to WU/MU website using ProxHTTPSProxy or HTTPSProxy in Windows XP. It has to be verified the existence of the patched file wuaueng.dll in the corresponding folders I mentioned in my guide. Be aware of SFC which tries to restore an original, old version of this file! After patching, restart your computer and check again! Now, the WU/MU website should finally work if there are of course no other errors. Cheers, AstroSkipper
  10. KeePass, one of the best password managers for Windows, was updated to the version 2.54 on 2023-06-03. It is developed in Germany, open source and therefore free to use. KeePass is still compatible with Windows XP although the system requirements listed on the KeePass download page are Windows 7 and above. For integration into browsers such as New Moon or Serpent, have a look here: Homepage: https://keepass.info/index.html Download: https://keepass.info/download.html Plugins: https://keepass.info/plugins.html Installer for Windows (2.54, not XP-compatible): https://sourceforge.net/projects/keepass/files/KeePass 2.x/2.54/KeePass-2.54-Setup.exe/download Portable (2.54, XP-compatible)): https://sourceforge.net/projects/keepass/files/KeePass 2.x/2.54/KeePass-2.54.zip/download As reported by @UCyborg, the installer version is no longer XP-compatible, but the portable version is which I am using under Windows XP.. Cheers, AstroSkipper
  11. PassIFox is a good choice to retrieve passwords from KeePass. Especially if there are several accounts for one website. It works with both New Moon 28 and Serpent 52 (and presumably in Serpent 55, too). However, if you also want to store logins in KeePass, you have to go another way. I actually use KeeFox in Serpent 52 for this. It doesn't work in New Moon 28. Both, PassIFox and KeeFox, require special plugins that have to be copied into the Plugins subdirectory in the KeePass programme folder. PassIFox needs the plugin KeePassHttp whereas KeeFox needs the plugin KeePassRPC. Working combinations for KeePass 2.43 I am using myself are: PassIFox 1.2.2 + KeePassHttp 1.8.4.2 KeeFox 1.8.0 + KeePassRPC 1.14.0 These combinations will probably work with more recent versions of KeePass, too. However, arbitrary combinations between extension and plugin do not work, which is the real reason for those listed above. At the moment, KeePass 2.54 (2023-06-03) is the most recent one and still compatible with Windows XP although the system requirements listed on the KeePass download page are Windows 7 and above. Cheers, AstroSkipper
  12. Hello @feodor2! I would be very happy if Mypal 68 was completely finished first. There are still a few things missing, such as automatic updating of extensions, Internationalisation & Localisation, and so on. But I would be very pleased about further development on Centaury and Waterfox, too. The more different choices in Windows XP, the better. Especially if the coder is such talented as you.
  13. I also tried to reactivate Malwarebytes Anti-Malware v2, but every time I wanted to update the virus definitions, I got the message: "Unable to access update server". The reason seems to be a certificate problem. This is the official statement: For fun, I also tried a connection via my TLS 1.3 proxy, unfortunately also without any success. The version I tried was Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 2.2.1.1043. The last database version was apparently 2022.5.20.4. Rest in peace!
  14. There are also unexpected twists and turns that hold a glimmer of hope. Here is the reply to my post in the Malearebytes Forum: https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/262745-definition-updates-failing-v17501300/?do=findComment&comment=1578382
  15. :OT Bold type and capitalisation are completely different things. But you should already know that because I told you long time ago, and not only once. :End of OT I don't think so. But it can be easily investigated if someone is interested in.
  16. The programme Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is great piece of software. Although the old versions have slightly worse detection rates than some other programmes of this type, they run perfectly under Windows XP. I've written two detailed articles about different versions of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware in this thread now, and I've only spread positive things. And what do you read about it in the Malwarebytes forum? The guy who posted this is one of many on the Malwarebytes forum who, for whatever reason, hate Windows XP or Windows Vista and their users. Instead of being happy that their programme is appreciated and maintained, only snide remarks, ridicule and scorn. This guy should be so ashamed of himself. (Edit: In the meanwhile, he offered me his apology, which I accepted. ) I am also a member of this "friendly" forum, and I've been really upset with this forum for a long time now, which is not doing a good service to the Malwarebytes product and potential users. A few months ago, I had a bad experience myself in this forum and spoke plainly. I reported about it in the old antivirus thread. Here is the relevant thread from the Malwarebytes forum: https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/296406-windows-xp-does-not-have-lifetime-support/#comment-1561223 Anyway! Here, you can read my reply to this nice comment: https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/262745-definition-updates-failing-v17501300/?do=findComment&comment=1578365 Cheers, AstroSkipper
  17. The versions v1, v2 and v3 of Malwarebytes each have different formats in which the virus definitions are stored. Although MBAM v1 and v2 store the virus definitions in the file rules.ref, these files still differ. MBAM v3 has completely different files for storing virus definition called rules.mbdb, and additionally the files wprot.mbdb and wprot2.mbdb. In any case, their virus definitions cannot be exchanged among each other. Cheers, AstroSkipper
  18. That's absolutely correct! Another, nice example is SpywareBlaster 4.6 which was the last version compatible with Windows ME. Updating of the definition files stopped when the version 5.0 was released. The most recent version is 6.0. When updating the definition files in SpywareBlaster 6.0 under Windows XP, they can be used in the version 4.6 under Windows ME without any problems. BTW, SpywareBlaster is on my internal list, and I will write an article about it soon.
  19. Yep! No problem using most recent definition updates for an old version as long as the format is compatible. PS: I agree capitalisation is annoying, hard to read, and actually means shouting in forums. Therefore, it is considered impolite.
  20. Hello to all! Last year, @cmalex had not only made available the proxy tool ProxyMII, which I rebranded ProxHTTPSProxy 1.5.220717 and took as the basis for my package ProxHTTPSProxy's PopMenu TLS 1.3 3V3, but also another proxy tool called 3Proxy. Does anyone here use this tool? Or at least, has anyone of you tried or tested 3proxy? Here is the link to the original post: And here is the GitHub website of 3proxy for additional information: https://github.com/3proxy/3proxy Cheers, AstroSkipper
  21. Another great programme is still compatible with Windows XP in 2023 and receiving updates on regular base. It is Hardcopy from sw4you, a very good screenshot programme, originated in Germany. At the moment, it is available in the most recent version 2023.07.13 and, as always, free of charge. Homepage: https://www.hardcopy.de/hardcopy/english/index.php Download: https://www.hardcopy.de/hc.exe Cheers, AstroSkipper
  22. IrfanView is still compatible with Windows XP in 2023, receiving updates on regular base, and is now of the version 4.62 from 2022-12-09. IrfanView is more than a simple image viewer, free of charge, originated in Germany/Austria, and a great piece of software. I use it since the 90's of last century, starting under Windows 95. It works fine on my Windows XP computer and can open many different image formats. Homepage: https://www.irfanview.com/ Downloads: https://www.fosshub.com/IrfanView.html You should download the installer and the plugins to enjoy full functionality. Cheers, AstroSkipper
  23. @Dave-H I know that you, like me, have been using Malwarebytes Premium 3.5.1.2522 under Windows XP for years, and you are an active member of the Malwarebytes Forum. Did you read somewhere or notice that old versions such as Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.75.0.1300 are supported again with regard to updating the virus definitions? I actually thought those versions were abandoned long time ago. However, as you may have seen, I was able to reactivate this function of this old version which had not worked for a long time. See here: https://msfn.org/board/topic/184730-antimalware-firewall-and-other-security-programs-for-windows-xp-working-in-2023-and-hopefully-beyond/?do=findComment&comment=1248964 What do you think about that? Have they possibly changed their policy? Greetings, AstroSkipper
  24. You're welcome! And don't forget it was you who made me investigate all this!
  25. Thank you for clarifying! So, Spybot - Search & Destroy 2.4.40 is the last version working under Windows XP and still allows updating its database. Good to know that and noted! It was already on my internal list. But, due to your confirmation, I will write an article about it soon and present it here as an option for Windows XP. Thanks again! As I already said, you are really helpful here.
