Here is a quotation from BackgroundCMD's website: Your "proper" "command prompt here" does nothing different from Total Commander's "solution" "Open command prompt window". I personally do not use the Windows Explorer for file management but Total Commander. And I don't like too much unnecessary entries in the context menu. Therefore, I can't see why such a solution is not as proper as yours. I think the following rule applies: AstroSkipper -
TBH, I never fear anything. I thought this temporary issue was because of a network connection problem at your location. It's that simple.

... But now : Before I changed the link yesterday, I also checked it, as I always do. It worked perfectly. And today as well. No problem here to access the Malwarebytes box. Here is a screenshot as a proof when accessing this site via New Moon 28: I fear something has gone wrong on your side. Check the link again! Cheers, AstroSkipper

Latest Version of Software Running on XP

Right! This function does not exist in Windows XP SP3 natively but in Total Commander. You can easily open a CMD window in whatever folder you want by clicking onto the entry Open command prompt window. It is located under the menu bar item Commands. -

Thanks for this information! However, I rename files using the multi-rename tool of Total Commander. This file manager can do much more than that, of course. -
The mature readers of my thread, who are really using and interested in security programmes under Windows XP, can speak for themselves They do not need a mouthpiece . Especially not if that person has given up Windows XP a long, long time ago (and apparently even Vista some years ago) and surfs the internet exclusively with an iPhone. If there are any questions, these readers can and will certainly ask them here themselves! Cheers, AstroSkipper

As requested, the link to the Installer of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.75.0.1300 has been changed by me although it was the official link from Malwarebytes itself. Now, all readers who want to download this installation programme must click on this link themselves. Of course, I already wrote about that in this thread.

Latest Version of Software Running on XP
AstroSkipper replied to pointertovoid's topic in Windows XP
Especially in a thread whose title is "Latest Version of Software Running on XP", I prefer a download link when specifying the latest XP-compatible version, and I also find this very helpful for the reader. Actually, this should not be a problem if you have already researched anyway. Personally, I am a friend of thoroughness. And I know you are too. -

Hope you're taking the heat well at your place. If I'm still missing something obvious, please enlighten me ... I think the reason was to provide a download link which was missing for the SQLiteStudio 3.1.1 in that previous post. -

Panda Antivirus is great, free of charge and even offers a real-time protection. I used Panda some months, was totally satisfied and didn't have any problems with it. Unfortunately, I can't install more than one antimalware programme with real-time protection in a Windows XP partition, though. And I personally prefer Malwarebytes inevitably due to my lifetime licence. And just for clarifcation, I always mean what I say or write, contrary to some others. Anyway! Ultimately, however, the mature reader must decide for himself what he wants to use or not. And this also applies to me, of course. In this thread, I only provide information and in a few cases either warnings or recommendations, all to the best of my knowledge and belief.

ProxHTTPSProxy and HTTPSProxy in Windows XP for future use
AstroSkipper replied to AstroSkipper's topic in Windows XP
Hello @Dave-H! If you have problems to access a particular website via IE proxy through ProxHTTPSProxy although the website works correctly through direct connection, then the SSL certificate verify should be done by the browser. When you don't want to change the proxy mode to direct connection, you have to add the entry onlyfans.com* to the section [SSL Pass-Thru] of ProxHTTPSProxy's configuration file config.ini as shown below: ### Bypass Proxomitron and the Rear Server, Proxy setting still effective ### SSL certificate verify will be done by the browser [SSL Pass-Thru] pypi.org files.pythonhosted.org pypi.python.org www.gstatic.com watson.telemetry.microsoft.com *.sync.services.mozilla.com onlyfans.com* I tried it in 360ChromePortable 13.5.1030 rebuild 7, and it works for me. Cheers, AstroSkipper- 922 replies

One of my computers has two Windows XP partitions. Until now, I had installed Malwarebytes Premium 3.5.1.2522 on both. I have now changed that. I have installed Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Pro 1.75.0.1300 on one of them for a week. On older, less powerful computers, you notice a considerable difference. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Pro 1.75.0.1300 is much more resource-efficient and lightweight. I loved to use it in the past, and now, I am able to enjoy it again. I am very happy. On more powerful computers, I would of course prefer Malwarebytes Premium 3.5.1.2522.

SpyBot - Search & Destroy Free Edition SpyBot - Search & Destroy Free Edition is an on-demand anti-spyware scanner. It searches your hard disk for all known types of spyware, adware and potentially unwanted programs. It offers powerful features to remove these threats and thus protect your privacy. It automatically detects: adware networks, attempts at host redirection, registry modifications, and unwanted changes in the browser configuration of Internet Explorer and Firefox. If an attempt is made to redirect your computer to a different Domain Name Server without your permission, Spybot can detect and stop this happening. It also protects your privacy by removing these tracks. SpyBot - Search & Destroy 2.4.40.0 is the last compatible version with Windows XP (and Vista) and free of charge. It still receives latest definition updates in these days as reported by @Cixert. Comparison of features: Homepage: https://web.archive.org/web/20140703163113/https://www.safer-networking.org/ https://web.archive.org/web/20140701051907/http://www.safer-networking.org/private/details/#Free Version number: 2.4.40.0 Date of creation: 24.06.2014 Date of release: 01.07.2014 System requirements: Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8 Release notes: https://www.safer-networking.org/new-spybot-2-4-fixes-several-updating-problems/ Review: https://softchamp.com/download-spybot-search-and-destroy Download links: Installer: http://updates3.safer-networking.org/spybot1/spybot-2.4.exe Offline updater for antispyware definitions: https://www.safer-networking.org/updates/files/spybotsd_includes.exe Instructions for offline updating: Apply the executable spybotsd_includes.exe. Select the programme folder of Spybot – Search & Destroy. The files will be added to the Includes folder within the Spybot program folder. Screenshots: SpyBot - Search & Destroy was written by the German software engineer Patrick Michael Kolla, and is distributed by Kolla's Irish company Safer-Networking Limited. I used SpyBot - Search & Destroy a long time under Windows ME and some years under Windows XP. It served me well in those days. Thanks to @Cixert for reporting that SpyBot - Search & Destroy 2.4.40.0 is the last version which still receives definition updates in 2023! Cheers, AstroSkipper

In the past, I also liked to report errors that occurred in one of @roytam1's browsers. In the meantime, I have become wiser and always check first whether the observed error also occurs in a newly created profile. Only then do I report such an error. -

No problem here in the lastest version of bnavigator (2023-07-14): -
Microsoft's strategy is to annoy all users of older operating systems in order to get them to switch to their latest operating system. They "learnt" from the past to avoid such long support as it was in the case of Windows XP.

Latest Version of Software Running on XP

Boot-US, a well-known and great boot manager, developed in Germany, was updated to the version 4.1.3. It runs under Windows XP to Windows 11 in 32 bit or 64 bit version and receives updates on a regular base. It recognizes whether Windows is installed in BIOS or UEFI mode. The whole package Boot-US (GUI and command-line version) may be used in the non-licensed version on private PCs for free. IMHO, the best boot manager of all I tried in the past. I use Boot-US since 2005. You can manage booting of other OSs such as Linux besides Windows partitions, too. Partitions can be simply or truly hidden. It is possible to set exactly which other logical partitions may be seen when booting from a primary partition. It has so much features I can't describe here. On its homepage, you'll find all you need to know. Homepage: https://www.boot-us.de/eng/ Download: https://www.boot-us.de/eng/download.htm Documentation: https://www.boot-us.de/eng/manual_eng.pdf Cheers, AstroSkipper -
@Cixert! I should mention that starting with version 4 (latest version is 4.1.3), the boot manager Boot-US also supports booting via UEFI. I personally use the version 3.9.6 which is working perfectly on my computers booting partitions via BIOS. No need to upgrade. The whole package Boot-US (GUI and command-line version) may be used in the non-licensed version on private PCs for free. However, some features are missing such as true hiding of partitions. These features require a licence after 30 days of use, unfortunately. IMHO, Boot-US, developed in Germany, is a great boot manager, which I have been using on my computers since 2005. And I really tried a lot in the past. Cheers, AstroSkipper

I didn't check the installer version at all because I always use the portable version. I extracted KeePass 2.54 portable into my folder with all portable programmes c:\Portable, and it works properly under Windows XP. Maybe, the change of the installer is the reason the system requirements for KeePass are now Windows 7 and above. PS: I have therefore edited my previous post. Thanks to @UCyborg for this additional information!
