    Hi all,

Excuse my ignorance, not sure which one of the NM28 releases is the best one to run on my pc (i3 4160) running windows XP. Thank you for your time!

    NM28XP build:
    Win32 https://o.rthost.win/palemoon/palemoon-28.10.7a1.win32-git-20240323-d849524bd-uxp-d8ac621203-xpmod.7z

Right! The release ending of *.xpmod.7z is the one for computers with a CPU equipped with SSE2 instruction set and above as it is in your case.

  2. To give you an idea idee.gif what makes custom buttons so special, they are very low on memory consumption and can provide features which are not existent in browsers. :thumbup Many of them are very specialised and add features to the browser that cannot even be retrofitted with extensions because they were simply never developed. And of course, we all know that nowadays hardly any new legacy extensions are developed for such browsers, but practically only webextensions. :( Beyond that, the more extensions installed, the more memory consumption, the more inconpatibilities and error messages (browser console), and finally, the less browser performance, depending on your hardware, of course. smilie_denk_24.gif

So, it would be really interesting for me what other users think about custom buttons. Any opinions, experiences or questions are welcome, of course! And it doesn't matter whether you used them in the past or still do.

  3. As I wrote in my first, introductory post of this thread, I am not only a fan of extensions, but also of custom buttons. I personally use a lot of already existing custom buttons and beyond that, created several on my own in the past. In any case, I will continue to present them here. But at this point, I would like to know how much interest there is in custom buttons among users of @roytam1's browser editions in general. :dubbio: So, feel free to share your thoughts on that topic! :)

RealityRipple Software - Pale Moon Extensions

All Pale Moon extensions, created by RealityRipple Software, can be installed in New Moon 28, although their website claims that the extensions are only compatible with Pale Moon 31.*. You just have to modify an entry in the file install.rdf inside each of their xpi files.
Here is an example of their original code:

    <em:id>{8de7fcbb-c55c-4fbe-bfc5-fc555c87dbc4}</em:id>
        <em:minVersion>31.0</em:minVersion>
        <em:maxVersion>31.*</em:maxVersion>

    And here is the modification:

    <em:id>{8de7fcbb-c55c-4fbe-bfc5-fc555c87dbc4}</em:id>
        <em:minVersion>28.10.0</em:minVersion>
        <em:maxVersion>31.*</em:maxVersion>

BTW, these extensions can also be made compatible with Serpent by using the extension Serpent Tester Tool, for example. Here is a link: https://msfn.org/board/topic/183923-extensions-and-custom-buttons-for-uxp-browsers-corrections-modifications-adjustments-and-special-recommendations/?do=findComment&comment=1226306. My recommended extensions from RealityRipple are Grabit, ExtExp, BIZARRE, uTube, MTube, GeoFlag, qrThis, and Open Registry Key. All of them can be installed in New Moon 28 with the modification above without any problems, and they are working fine as expected. ssupercool2.gif
Here is the link to the site with all available Pale Moon extensions by RealityRipple once again: https://realityripple.com/Software/XUL/ link.gif

    Cheers, AstroSkipper matrix.gif

    Update notification! update.gif

All extensions from RealityRipple have been updated to version v33.0 or v33.1. Here is the link once again: https://realityripple.com/Software/XUL/ link.gif

Duh, please stop, I am tired of arguments flaming everywhere. Can't peace be an option for once?

If these words are addressed to @Vistapocalypse, I can only agree. :thumbup But I wonder what business it is of yours at all? :dubbio: You are not involved in this conversation, not even mentioned. TBH, you don't have to put your two cents in everywhere in the forum. nimportequoi.gif And I fear, it's not that important what you are tired of or what not. Sorry, my dear! smilie_denk_24.gif

AstroSkipper - i tried adguard and it worked, thanks for your hint. :thumbup

You're welcome. :) When it comes to successfully blocking content using uBlock Origin Legacy, it is very often a question of the right filter list or self-created rule.  A sensible combination of enabled filter lists is very important to successfully block whatever you want to and to keep the memory usage of the used browser as low as possible. This is one of the reasons why I have implemented additional filter lists in my mod and will do so even in the next releases. :P

  7. The use of artificial intelligence is a double-edged sword. It can generate results very quickly and easily. However, these must be evaluated and consulted with caution. In my opinion, it is essential to do your own research in any case. albert.gif I personally do not trust any AI. It is nice to have such technology but I don't want to be told what to do or think by any artificial intelligence. I don't really approve of such a dependency, which is already fatal for children and students for years. Stupidity is being encouraged. Nobody needs to know anything. AI already does that. :buehehe: A famous German astrophysicist, Prof. Dr. Harald Lesch, put it aptly a long time ago. Young people don't know much anymore, they just learn how to easily get information. :P He literally said that in this day and age, young people only learn skills, but they know very little. I totally agree. Of course, using artificial intelligence sensibly is a completely different story.

The link you provided does not answer my question!

Of course, it does. smilie_denk_24.gif Look at the end of the FAQ! starescreen.gif There are links to the corresponding articles whose author is no less than @VistaLover. And a little research on your own to deepen the topic would be helpful, too. :P But to be honest, @Mathwiz did already the job for you and quoted the most suitable post from @VistaLover in terms of your query. :o

  9. A much more fundamental problem is the seemingly lost ability to carry out in-depth research in a forum before asking questions whose answer is actually easy to find. :P Presumably because it's more convenient that way.  And who wants to go through four threads with 200 pages each and then this one here with the help of the forum search? :buehehe:

After a certain amount of time the Edit button is gone...

No problem. Then that's the way it is. Actually, people should get their information here anyway. Sometimes, it's not so easy to express exactly what you want to say in a foreign language. In most cases, I think I manage that, but unfortunately not always. smilie_denk_24.gif

What is the difference between Palemoon 28 and Palemoon 27 for Windows XP - https://rtfreesoft.blogspot.com/search/label/newmoon?
Does Palemoon 28 support and show new, modern sites better than Palemoon 27?

In short, yes. New Moon 28 is an UXP browser and a port of the current Pale Moon browser. Therefore, it has a lot of more modern features. Read here for more information: https://msfn.org/board/topic/185966-my-browser-builds-part-5/?do=findComment&comment=1258498

    This is weird.

I want to reply to the post of @AstroSkipper above, but I get:

This happens to me all the time, and very often I don't know what the actual problem is. The forum post editor is a disease. :thumbdown  And this untenable situation has existed for months now. :realmad:

Thanks for posting additional information about my mod! However, the cited post of mine is unfortunately misleading and should be still replaced by the corrected one. Otherwise, someone could think the updating over an existing installation (1.16.4.32 or 1.16.4.33) of uBlock Origin Legacy would also work which is of course not the case. The manual updating over an existing installation of my mod will only work in terms of the internal list of all offered filter lists (assets.json) starting with version 1.16.4.34 and above. After installing this internal list from version 1.16.4.34, it will then be updated automatically in the future. Anyway! Thanks again for spreading the news! :)

  13. @nicolaasjan Thank you for posting the news in the Pale Moon Forum! Can you please update your post there with the corrected news above? It had been formulated by me a little unclear. Therefore, I had to revise it again so that there are no misunderstandings about what will change. Thanks in advance! :)

FYI, I had a "nice" conversation in the Malwarebytes Forums
    https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/309490-have-you-all-stopped-making-updates/
Unfortunately, there won't be any further definition updates for Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Pro 1.75.0.1300. They have deliberately stopped rolling out current definition updates for this version.

Thus, I have updated my lists in the second and fourth post. smilie_denk_24.gif

  15. Although I have said that the air is getting very, very thin for anyone who wants to run an antimalware programme with real-time protection on a machine with an SSE only CPU that is still receiving current definition updates, however, common sense should not desert the user of such old computers. I will test whether Panda Free Antivirus will run on computers with a CPU that does not have SSE2 support. Maybe, there are other users who have already gained experience with Panda Free Antivirus on such computers and are willing to share their knowledge. :dubbio:

  17. News about my mod uBlock Origin Legacy! vil2_nouvelles.gif

I have of course noticed that there is considerable interest in my mod uBlock Origin Legacy. I have therefore addressed the problem of updating an existing installation of my mod. With the upcoming release of uBlock Origin Legacy 1.16.4.34, it will then also be possible to install over an existing installation of my mod (1.16.4.34 and higher). The internal list of all preselected filter lists (assets.json) will then finally be automatically updated, too. I am still in the testing phase, but everything looks good and seems to work so far.

My "webappsstore.sqlite" in New Moon is 150 MB. When I view it with a text editor, I see it full of JavaScript and keywords apparently related to advertising from Shopify and similar domains. This is a ridiculous amount of data. Can I see in the browser to whom this data belongs to, and clear it without deleting this file in its entirety?

Install the extension SQLite Manager 0.8.3.1 from the Classic Add-ons Archive! This extension can manage sqlite files such as your webappsstore.sqlite inside New Moon. BTW, my file is only about 12 MB.

With SQLite Manager 0.8.3.1, you can view all entries, add new ones, edit or delete old ones. My webappsstore.sqlite files in different profiles are of different sizes from 96 KB up to 12 MB.

  20. Update notification! update.gif

As already reported , the Root Certificates have been updated and are now from 26-03-2024. Here are screenshots of both updaters:

    Root-Certificates-26-03-2024-2.png

Therefore, my self-created, offline Root Certificate Updaters in the section 11.2.4. Downloads related to Root Certificate Updates (in the first post of this thread) will also be updated if I can somehow trick this crappy forum post editor. tetecontremur.gif

FYI, due to the fact that the MSFN forum editor is totally broken and hasn't been working properly for months, especially when it comes to inserting of links :realmad:, I wasn't able to edit my main article ProxHTTPSProxy and HTTPSProxy in Windows XP for future use the last weeks. Unfortunately, I have to revise and to change some content in this article to be hopefully able again to edit it and to add the links for the new offline Root Certificate Updaters. This all is very annoying and time-consuming. :realmad:
