My copy of Windows XP is activited and the time is correct. Differnet proxies show me the same result. All the information shows that "The remote host forced an existing connection to close".

Did you also check if ProxHTTPSProxy is working on other websites, for example, accessing the website https://www.howsmyssl.com/ in the Internet Explorer, as it should? :dubbio: Please, post one screenshot of this website including the programme window of ProxHTTPSProxy!

Hello everyone and happy new year! Now I have transfer my Windows XP VM to Hyper-V, but MU and U don't work. I have intalled all the necessary updates and replaced waueng.dll. After I reinstalled all the programs on the client and server, it didin't work either. It returns me 0x80072F78. What should I do? (Firewall method have been tested)

If my tip An experimental solution for the error code 0x80072F78 while accessing the WU/MU website doesn't work for you, here some further ideas:

    • Check the Windows Update log.
    • Check the date and time of your computer and Windows XP.
    • Check if Windows XP is activated.
    • Try a more recent ProxHTTPSProxy version.
    • Check if the proxy is installed correctly and is working properly.
    • Update all certificates.

@roytam1 I have investigated the restart behaviour of New Moon 28 (and Serpent 52, too).I have started the browser many times and observed the startup cache. I noticed that very often or in most cases the startup cache was cleared automatically without any additional commands. Do you have more information about this? Is this normal? :dubbio:I thought that this cache is only deleted in special cases or triggered by the user, manually or by the command line option -purgecaches, for example. smilie-denk-49.gif

The reason why I investigated the restart behaviour of these browsers is that I have created various restart custom buttons (JavaScript) for Firefox-based browsers in the past and currently have made one that performed a normal restart when left-clicked and additionally deletes the startup cache when middle-clicked. I also extracted the restart code, which is used by New Moon 28, from its source code and had a look at it. But somehow I get the feeling that manually deleting the startup cache is not really necessary any longer, as the browser seems to do this on its own in most cases when restarting it. :dubbio:

  5. I just had to read this in the Pale Moon forum by athenian200:

So, I decided to use a diff tool to look at exactly what AstroSkipper changed, since speculation was getting us nowhere.

Here's what I noticed when using WinMerge to see what the differences are between AstroSkipper's mod and the last released version of uBO...

    - The vast majority of the files are identical or nearly identical to the last release commonly used by us. There was not a partial backporting of a newer WebExtensions-based uBO version to XUL, like I assumed might have been the case earlier.
    - Something like 80% of the real changes I saw were related to the implementation of a "shortcuts pane" in some way. Nothing about the shortcuts pane itself stood out as weird to me.
    - A ton of others did things like replace "var" with "let" which is functionally equivalent AFAIK (I'm no expert on JS, but I know that much).
    - I also saw a lot of odd reworking of variable names that start with "h" and making them start with "session" instead, but again in most cases the code wound up being functionally equivalent.
    - The rest of the changes were to filter lists, extension ID, extension name, and the removal of the updateURL, as stated in AstroSkipper's changelogs.
    - Some changes to code comments like copyright dates and contributor names.

Overall, my analysis? Not sure why he changed a bunch of variable names, switched from var to let, or implemented a shortcuts pane, but nothing jumps out at me as dangerous. As for the filter lists he added, that's outside of my expertise entirely and I have no idea what the best filter lists to use for uBO are.

The actual list of changes here seems a lot shorter than the discussion about the changes made in both this thread and the one on MSFN... I just assumed if everyone was talking about it, it must have a lot of big changes.

Like perhaps some in this forum may already know, I am a mathematician. Unfortunately, from a purely mathematical and statistical point of view, I have to rate this study as unsatisfactory. :thumbdown School mark: F (in Germany 6). :o If this is the way this so-called developer works, then good night Marie (German saying, translated :P)! suisjebete.gif Before any investigation, you should first of all be clear about what you actually want to investigate. That has gone completely wrong here. Anyone who compares apples with pears and thinks meaningful results would be generated is completely wrong. :buehehe: My advice to this self-appointed expert: First read and understand. Then gather facts and think about it carefully. ssuper5sur5.gif Then you'll be able to bake such childish stuff. The only thing that went well in this investigation was that the "good" man used WinMerge for comparison. But that was it. smilie_denk_24.gif What is obvious, however, is that this guy really doesn't know much about extensions. nimportequoi.gif My advice to athenian200: Read my article thoroughly before spreading such nonsense!  And if you have no idea or are overwhelmed with such an examination, then you should leave it to those who really know how to do it. :thumbup
And what can you actually do with such an "investigation"?
Unfortunately, as already mentioned, only this: cursor.gif

Here is a link to my updated Language Pack: Link.

Well done! Your Dutch colleagues will be delighted with such a service.  BTW, I already mentioned this issue here two weeks ago:

I have fixed my German language pack the day I posted this issue. This corrected language pack has been in testing mode since then. I will post it when testing mode is over, and all is definitely working. So far, no further issues. :)

AstroSkipper: This whole situation surrounding your uBO efforts :worship: brings to mind the English saying: "No good deed goes unpunished", wouldn't you agree?

I totally agree.  But I am no longer annoyed by some of the characters in that forum. And I'm even surprised that there are also people who argue fairly and decently, and appreciate work which is completely free of charge for them. :o

Did you find any information about these strings or did you just make up #$RHDH01:)

  9. My mod uBlock Origin Legacy and its browser or operation system compatibiliy

To pre-empt the wild speculations about my surgical interventions in the code of the Legacy extension uBlock Origin, which can be read in another forum,
    panne1.gif gyrophare.gif spanachee.gif
and to steer them in the right direction, here are a few remarks on this topic. All code changes I have made so far are not operating system specific. nimportequoi.gif Although I mostly work under Windows XP :thumbup, I have also tested my mod in Pale Moon 32 under Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, for example. But I didn't have to do this because, as I said, there were no changes I made that could have broken the previous browser or operating system compatibility. So if anyone claims that I have modified uBlock Origin Legacy specifically for use on Windows XP, then that is simply nonsensesnegatif.gif In my article about uBlock Origin Legacy, I have provided detailed changelogs for the respective releases, which you can use to get a good overview of what has been changed in each case. ssuper5sur5.gif So I only see the following options for potential or existing users of the legacy extension of uBlock Orgin: Either they trust me smilie_t_007.gif and use my mod or they have to continue using the old, no longer maintained versions. There is also a third option. They can do it themselves. smilie_denk_24.gif

Would be anyone here be so indulgent and kind to explain how exactly one can fix this manually? Didn't find any "hudservice.js" in the St_52.9's folder and tbh, i do not spot any kind of "instruction" there which i would be able to "follow"... Many thanks in advance!

    UXP-commit.jpg

Inside your programme folder of Serpent 52 is a subfolder named browser where you have to extract the omni.ja file to a folder in which the hudservice.js file can be found under chrome\devtools\modules\devtools\client\webconsole\.

Will there be a similar project for old Chromium browsers, like Opera 48 and the such?

I don't know. In any case, not from my side. nimportequoi.gif I'm not really a fan of Chrome. Under Windows XP, I mainly use New Moon 28, Mypal 68 and Serpent, all descendants of old Firefox versions. On my Android tablet, I have to put up with a pure Chrome world. smilie_denk_24.gif Then please not under Windows XP as well. I hope you can understand that. :)

Version 1.16.4.32 works flawlessly - thanks again!

You're welcome! I am pleased to hear that my mod is working for you as it should.

Since uBO Legacy is important for many, many users I hope you will consider in the future uploading it somewhere where it can be easily installed and kept automatically up to date (e.g. Pale Moon Add-ons Site, GitHub or wherever you see fit).

This thread was created by me so that everything about extensions and custom buttons for UXP browsers can be posted. You can find all the important links immediately in the first three posts of this thread. Right from the start, I have paid attention to a good and well thought-out structure. My mods, forks and custom buttons are offered here with important information. There will be no decoupling from this thread. In my mods uBlock Origin 1.16.4.31 and uBlock Origin Legacy 1.16.4.32, I therefore have implemented a link to the corresponding article with the title "Information" on the About tab for regular checking. Current updates can therefore be found very easily.  An automatic update service will not happen. Although I do not need to do that, I am happy to share my work, which is of course very time-consuming, but potential users also need to do their bit by visiting this thread from time to time, reading, searching and asking for information and, above all, leaving feedback. Experiences, suggestions and reporting of issues are particularly important. On the other hand, any form of  automatism is counterproductive and generally leads to inertia. I'm not in the mood for that.

    Hello VistaLover,
    You are right.
The latest (s.a.) St52 shows the same bug-pattern as NM28.
Just take my latest post on NM28 concerning this  bug
and replace St52 for NM28  -  the same story.

@anton12 As already described in previous posts, you can easily fix this bug yourself manually, strictly following the commit https://github.com/roytam1/UXP/commit/1116e8e137a3525b8313505a71894bb50af816d6 @roytam1 kindly posted. Works great here.

  14. And here is another important notecaptain.gif
In order to install my new mod uBlock Origin Legacy 1.16.4.32 successfully and without any errors, please follow the instructions provided in my article! Here are the essential points once again:

    1. Backup all settings via the "Back up to file"" function in uBlock Origin.
    2. Completely uninstall the previous uBlock Origin version.
    3. Clear the browser cache.
    4. Close the browser.
    5. Manually delete the ublock0.sqlite file in your profile folder.
    6. Restart the browser.
    7. Install my mod.
    8. Import the settings from the backup file.

Starting with the version uBlock Origin Legacy 1.16.4.32, my mod has a new ID. Therefore, a clean install is mandatory:yes:

you need to delete startupCache folder in your profile in order to activate the manual fix.

Thanks! However, after a fresh install of New Moon 28, it worked without deleting the startupCache folder. But good to know. I usually delete this cache every time if I change CSS stylesheets in Mypal 68.
