    Panda Free Antivirus

Panda Free Antivirus (recently also called Panda Dome) is a cloud-based antivirus application designed to protect the user without wasting resources. It is extremely light as all the work is done in the cloud. Panda Free Antivirus provides fast protection against the newest viruses thanks to its cloud-scanning from Panda servers. Even the most recent version of Panda Free Antivirus is still compatible with Windows XP (SP3 32 bit editions only).

    Features:

    • Antivirus Protection - Real-time protection against all types of malware and spyware. Schedule periodic scans and/or scan your computer on demand.
    • USB protection - Protect your PC by preventing the automatic execution of malware from USB drives. Scan all USB drives upon insertion.
    • Panda rescue kit - Free PC recovery system. Run an advanced scan of your PC or create a rescue USB drive to boot and clean those infected computers that won’t even start.
    • Multimedia/Game mode - This mode ensures you play or watch multimedia content without disturbance from your antivirus while remaining completely secure.

    Version number: 22.02.00 update.gif

    Date of release: 31.10.2023

    Previous versions:

    • 22.00.01 released on 01.04.2023
    • 22.01.01 released on 15.09.2023

    System requirements:

Compatible with: Windows 10, Windows 8/8.1, Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP (SP3 or higher, 32 bit only).

Compatibility with Windows XP 64 bit:
As already confirmed by @WSC4 and @UCyborg, Panda Free Antivirus is unfortunately not fully compatible with Windows XP 64 bit editions. smilie-denk-17.gif The installer doesn't seem to detect the already existing .NET Framework 4 installation. A .NET Framework reinstallation via the installer also fails. If you still want to use Panda Free Antivirus under Windows XP 64 bit, you need to make some changes for the installer to work properly, which @UCyborg has found out and described here:
    https://msfn.org/board/topic/184730-antimalware-firewall-and-other-security-programs-for-windows-xp-working-in-2023-and-hopefully-beyond/?do=findComment&comment=1253877
Whether Panda Free Antivirus will run stably under Windows XP 64 bit is currently unclear and has to be confirmed yet. In any case, everything is without guarantee and at your own responsibility. jexplique.gif

    Release notes:

    • New cloud-based disinfection engine
    • New behavioral analysis engine in the free edition
    • Improved offline protection
    • Process monitor allows seeing Internet connections on a per process basis
    • Improved performance and 50% faster scans
    • Compatibility with newer versions of Windows
    • New interface
    • Ability to manage different licenses

Panda Free Antivirus is based on new cloud computing concept in which services are provided over Internet. This new antivirus scans files through Internet which makes it very light on system resources. It also doesn’t need regular updating of virus definitions as it automatically updates the virus definitions in the cloud (remote server) and scans files using those latest virus definitions. The user should have a good speed Internet connection to fully utilize this new cloud based antivirus otherwise it won’t work. No problem if the user is offline, it’ll still protect the system from virus attack as it stores the virus definitions in local cache as well. The system load of Panda Free Antivirus is very low (lower than it was for example with WiseVector StopX), and the detection rate is supposed to be very good according to my research. I used it for a while, and it is definitely an option for Windows XP. o-k.gif

    Update notification! update.gif

Panda Free Antivirus has been updated on 27.12.2023 and is now of version 22.02.01. Thus, I'll update my article and my list in terms of Panda Free Antivirus.
Maybe. one of you can test the new version first of all under Windows XP SP3 32 bit to be sure it is still compatible as advertised here: https://www.pandasecurity.com/en/homeusers/windows-antivirus/
This is a quotation from this website:

    Quote

Compatible with: Windows 11, Windows 10, Windows 8/8.1, Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP (SP3 or higher)

And again, such a confirmation would be great as we all already know, the proof is in the pudding. :P

so what is your current antivirus programm

On one XP partition, I am using Malwarebytes Premium 3.5.1.2522, and on the other one, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Pro 1.75.0.1300 due to the lifetime license I own for many years. :)

If I didn’t have this lifetime license and preferred a free antimalware programme, I would choose Panda Free Antivirus on Windows XP

The research for this article was hell. smilie_g_002.gif Useful information about AVG Antivirus Free 18.8.4084.0 was almost impossible to find. The support (Avast) only points to their own Avast products.
If someone is looking for support for AVG Antivirus Free 18.8.4084.0, he can expect something. And I don't mean anything good by that. Personally, I will think three times from now on whether I write anything about AVG again. suisjebete.gif

My advice: Forget about AVG!

Thanks! :) Which version of Ultra Virus Killer did you install in Windows XP? As you may know, the last XP-compatible version is 11.9.8.0 as I stated in my article about Ultra Virus Killer. When I tested this version for writing my article, I didn't get such a message.

    Malware Hunter is only byable

Where did you get this information? :dubbio: It usually comes in two versions, the free version Malware Hunter and the commercial version Malware Hunter Pro. As already described in my article, the features real-time protection and automatic updates are only available in Malware Hunter Pro.

Actually, Glarysoft Malware Hunter Pro has a 30-day free trial period. After that, you must purchase a license for the software to use all its professional features. That means you can use it as an on demand scanner when the trial period has expired.

    is that ok?

    Screenshot_1.jpg

Yep! However, I deactivated the file PromoUtil.exe in my installation when I used this security programme. Less pop-ups and less RAM consumption. The problem with all recent 360 Total Security versions is the quality of their scanners since they don't use Avira and Bitdefender scan engines any longer but unfortunately their own ones, 360 Cloud Scan Engine, 360 QVMII AI Engine, QEX and KunPeng. Read this review here: https://www.safetydetectives.com/best-antivirus/360-total-security/
And once again, please provide more information when you do a request! One image and a few words are simply too few. smilie_denk_24.gif

Yes i reproduce the crash, while you may help by checking previous versions.

What I can say in any case is that Mypal 68.13.7b is also affected by this issue. And after a short test, Mypal 68.13.3b is affected by these sporadic crashes, too. All in single-process mode. In multiprocess mode, on the other hand, Mypal 68.13.7b doesn't seem to crash on Codeberg.org, i.e. just as in Mypal 68.13.9b.

    Are you talking for this?

    Screenshot_1.jpg

Among other things! Try to scan a couple of files! Check the RAM consumption and the CPU usage using a tool like Process Hacker! In short, check the scanner abilities and the whole programme performance! At least, I would do that to get an impression whether the programme is any good.

  9. 8 hours ago, shelby said:

No there is no connection to the servers. Only scan with the program

I'm sure the readers and myself would be very pleased if the information you provide was presented in a little more detail. :P What exactly did you test? How did you determine that no connection to the cloud servers was established? :dubbio: And so on. People want to be able to understand and judge what exactly you have investigated and how you came to your conclusions. BTW, have you already tested the most recent version 360 Total Security 11.0.0.1083:dubbio: On its homepage, it is claimed to be still XP-compatible. :)

That said, an extension is much simpler and easier to install than replacing the version built into omni.ja, so I may experiment with updating that extension, @AstroSkipper style ;)

I already did such kind of modifications in the past. As you surely know, the email client MailNews is actually only offered in the English language. Last year, I created a German language pack for MailNews from scratch. Additionaly, I had to add the German locale to MailNews's embedded calendar Lightning which is inside the omni.ja file and has to be modified separately. So, all a bit more complicated than usual. The effort was manageable in the end, however, translating is, as always, very time-consuming and a bit of hell. repareordi.gif That said I am now able to switch between the English and German language even though the translation isn't complete yet. Too much other projects. smilie_denk_24.gif And I do all translations manually and not automated to preserve the translation quality and to avoid generating syntax errors in the code. And yes, of course, separate extensions are easier to change and to test. :P Anyway! Have fun with your project! :)

    Screenshot_1.jpg

    Screenshot_2.jpg

None of this is really helpful. smilie_denk_24.gif Deactivate the Avira Scan Engine and check the Windows security center again! What is the status then? :dubbio: Next, let the programme scan a folder with files! Is a connection then established to the servers where the cloud scan engines are installed? :dubbio:

I can't observe this problem in the most recent version of New Moon 28.10.7a1 (32-bit) (2024-02-23) with Palefill 1.28 enabled. This site seems to work. Here is a screenshot:

  14. @feodor2 Did you observe sudden crashes in Mypal 68.13.9b when surfing on Codeberg.org? :dubbio: Unfortunately, I had to determine sudden crashes without any messages that occur completely randomly when clicking onto links on Codeberg's pages. However, only in single-process mode. All preference settings for single-process mode are set to the default values in my installation. In multiprocess mode, on the other hand, I could not observe such crashes. :) Any ideas? :dubbio:

Can you update the list in the 3 post? Just to know what programms are working so far

The third post contains an "Alphabetical list of programs that need to be tested for compatibility, features and support or whose installers have been lost". I think you mean the fourth post which contains the"Alphabetical list of programs that have recently been abandoned or should be avoided". But does 360 Total Security Essential 8.8.0.1119 really not work any longer? :dubbio: I personally assume it is still working but only cloud-based. Am I right? scratch_one-s_head.gif

@shelby Is 360 Total Security Essential 8.8.0.1119 still working or not? :dubbio: Have you checked whether the cloud scan engines are still being used by the programme? I need more detailed information to maintain the list.  Unfortunately, the information you have provided has been known for a long time and does not clarify the support status of this programme. smilie_denk_24.gif

There are always two sides to every coin.

I personally "hate" the preview box and want links posted as a link that the user has to click if the user wants to go there.

That's your right and ultimately a matter of personal taste. But that doesn't change the fact that a feature that used to work and is still offered no longer works.  Aside from that, the MSFN forum editor has many other quirks and dysfunctions.  The rudimentary BBCode implementation is also worth mentioning.

Confirmed! The MSFN forum editor hasn't been working properly for months especially when it comes to inserting of certain links. Here is my report: https://msfn.org/board/topic/186048-msfn-forum-editor-inserting-of-certain-links-impossible/
