  1. Yes, good points, and I did know that the v10d was different from the weekly/daily packages. But yes, I did install UURollup-v10d over the weekly version, which I actually didn't think was going to work and I ended up with the kernel32.dll blue screen. So I uninstalled and went back to my weekly version, no problems. However, since I wanted to try out the stable v10d, I decided to uninstall my weekly version to go back to a somewhat native environment, but that also resulted in a blue screen which I outlined earlier, saying that it couldn't find LdrLoadLock or something like that in ntdll.dll. Why that happened, I had no idea. So then I was stuck with a system that wouldn't load. But since I had nothing to lose, I went into the recovery console and tried the uninstall of v10d since earlier I had installed it over the weekly version which meant before it installed originally, it saved copies of my weekly version's system files, and initiating uninstall of it once again restored the good system files and I was able to use the system again as it was before anything happened. So basically, rather than pointing out my stupidity of seeing what happens when you experiment with certain things, I posted that just in case someone else might try doing something like what I had done or similar and how they could get their systems back without having to wipe the drive and start all over again.
  2. I've also got an HP printer which is a Photosmart C4740 and it's minimum requirement is Windows XP. Since support themselves was actually nice to me and found a workaround, it seems that the Deskjet 550c and 990c would work to make the printer print. As for scanning, I just go through the web application built into the device. Whether that applies to your device or not, I don't know. But I use mine wirelessly and I just go into my web browser and type the ip address in for the printer (like you would to enter your router or modem setup). So whether yours will do the same or similar, I don't know but it is a workaround for the time being. Also, the printer drivers I listed may not work but you might have to play around with whatever is there to get something working.
  3. Maybe it's still under review because they can't get their hands on a good ol' Windows 2000 computer since they're probably fanboys and girls of Windows 8. XD More seriously though, you cannot upgrade from UURollup-v10d if you're using the latest weekly release, otherwise you'll get a kernel32.dll error. If you uninstall the weekly update (at least it happened for me), you'll still get a blue screen as it complains about LdrLoaderLock or something like that cannot be found. I found at least an unofficial fix though, at least to get you back into Windows if this happens. Since I had installed UURollup-v10d before uninstalling the weekly version and it didn't work, I uninstalled it via recovery console but it leaves the uninstall information behind. Well, when I went into Windows to uninstall the weekly pack, i'd get a blue screen since it was looking for dependencies that weren't there. So, I got back into the recovery console and 'uninstalled' UURollup-v10d again. However, what happens is it had the original files from the weekly UURollup stored and it restore the files, which basically reinstalled UURollup-v11 weekly. I hope this information and trial and error comes in handy for someone who might brick their system accidentally.
  4. Well, after testing the drivers for several days, I haven't found a single thing wrong with them so far. I've run a couple of 3D programs and I haven't had any issues. I'll keep testing them and report back if there's any issues.
  5. It just kills me how a lot of people 'accept' Windows 8's removed features, especially the start menu. You guys are happy paying money for a 'new' version of Windows when the previous version had more useful stuff in it than the new one? Did Microsoft lose sight of what a computer is really meant for, specifically getting things done in a timely fashion? It's stupid how people are all "Oh my god!!! It's paving the way to the future! Accept it...

Exactly. I cannot tolerate it either. Windows 7 is a sane proper desktop OS. For a tablet, I can understand but even then the Metro design is ugly. For computers, the desktop side of Windows 8 is a REGRESSION. There aren't any improvements, there are only huge steps back,

Exactly!!! I just showed it to my fiancee and she's appalled by it. She said Windows was just fine as it was. I hope Microsoft learns from this blunder if they do release another Windows version.

  6. This is very interesting actually and it almost leaves room for a later date to possibly turn the Windows 2000 GUI into something similar to Windows Vista or Windows 7 (since both of them follow that rule). It would be very cool to have the either or function so you could swap whenever you felt like it. Whether or not it could be changed via a menu, I don't know, but at least it's a possible idea in the future. (testing later nVIDIA driver now and will report any findings)
  7. Sounds awesome! I would love to help in any way I can if you need it. Just one thing about the nVIDIA driver, will it contain the control panel or just a plain driver? Only reason I ask is since I use dual monitors, if I don't have SOME kind of control panel, I can only use one monitor so that's a bit of a downer. I'd just like to make sure of this before I start messing with my system and then have to undo it all again.
  8. I've also noticed the dualview issues which are outlined here and it's a very annoying problem. Something else that also doesn't seem to work right is the new control panel. I've noticed I got it working a couple of times but sadly I can't remember what I did to make it work. I like using custom resolutions and really appreciate the feature in the new control panel. It appears in the classic one but seems broken as anything you put into the boxes, it says that it cannot be added. I'm thinking some files have been removed as I noticed a couple newer package have smaller filesizes. Version 197.95 seems really screwed up. I don't know what happens but it doesn't work at all when you use the installer.
  9. Just throwing out an idea, dunno if it's right or not but could it have anything to do with Windows Update Agent or Root Certificate Updates not being found?
  10. I'm glad you agree!! I don't think Microsoft has made a real OS since XP truthfully.

  11. Thanks for the suggestion, I will definitely try it! As for my OS, I use Windows 2000 on my main computer 'the one I'm posting from now' and Windows XP on my laptop. I also use Google Chrome as my browser and sometimes I use FireFox and IE to test certain conditions. My Windows 2000 install has gone through quite a bit even though it was installed back in July. I did want to make sure that the OS was at fault first before I wiped and started over again since I've got quite a bit of stuff on here.
  12. Which of course I'd expect the 'duh!' response here, since I'm complaining about my dialup. We all know it's slow but my options are so extremely limited due to my location and more importantly, my budget, but anyway.... Just over the last few months I've been having major issues with it. I use Google Talk to talk to my fiancee while she's away at college, but over the past month, I can't even use it. Even though my download speeds are about 3-4kb/s and upload is around 8kb/s according to a few speed tests. I used to be able to use Google Talk just fine. Even though it would stutter once in a while, it was very usable. Now I can't use it at all and it even seems like it bogs down my connection after attempting to use it. Then there are the bad DNS issues. It seems like every 10 minutes or so, I get these stupid DNS error pages when browsing the web. They just seem to appear at random times. Steps I have taken to solve this Tried a new modem...same problem Tried a different phone cord...same problem Tried a different computer...same problem Went outside and tested it in the box itself...same problem Contacted the phone company for line noise issues...no issues found Contacted ISP...claims there are no problems on their end and no one else seems to have complained of any issues So...I'm at a big loss right now. I have no DSL access out here, cable is too expensive ATM... satellite is even a worse choice...and I don't have or plan on getting a cell phone. So, is there anything I'm missing or I could try to figure out what is going on? I would definitely appreciate some feedback.
  13. @tomasz86 My msi.dll version is: 3.1.4001.5842
  14. That's quite a few functions. However, I was just saying that the error didn't come up on my test machines. Of course the installer itself failed but it didn't come up with a critical stop saying such and such cannot be read like it does on my main machine. It almost seems like it's related to the Windows Installer somehow, but I don't know. I could be wrong. Aside from USP5 and UpdateRollup 2, all I use as far as unofficial updates are blackwingcat's kernel extensions.
  15. I don't have the latest updates installed. The latest I have as of now is v22g installed, however it's been an ongoing thing for a few of these packs now. It unfortunately doesn't say which module is in question. But this is what I get out of the event viewer. Application popup: Setup.exe - Application Error : The instruction at "0x7d2c1ec9" referenced memory at "0x7d2c1ec9". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program Click on CANCEL to debug the program I'm almost positive that this is an installshield MSI setup installer. However, a very similar thing happens when I try installing the Logitech (Logicool) webcam setup too. It's been going on for at least a month now. And maybe this might help as well but I tried installing Microsoft Security Essentials as well but I also get an error similar to that, but I didn't when I tested it on a Microsoft only updated system. Attempting to install it on this machine results in these errors in the event viewer. Application popup: setup.exe - Application Error : The instruction at "0x7d2de372" referenced memory at "0x7d2de372". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program Click on CANCEL to debug the program *And* Application popup: setup.exe - Application Error : The instruction at "0x7d27cd05" referenced memory at "0x7d27cd05". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program Click on CANCEL to debug the program Hopefully this information helps, and I will try and install the updated kernel extensions and see what happens.
  16. The only thing I can possibly figure out that would benefit from the cryptographic service is if we could figure out how to get IE7 functional. But maybe blackwingcat knows other reasons for having it.
  17. I'm not sure if this relates to the kernel extension or not but it seems like launching any type of MSI via InstallShield wizard, I get a weird error such as 'The instruction at "0x7d2c1ec9" reference memory at "0x7d2c1ec9". The memory could not be "read". Is there a way to fix that error since most of them come up very similar to that?
  18. Well, we have another slight problem. I did finally manage to get passed that atl.dll problem, only to be greeted with some more glad tidings on the next boot. I got a nice BSoD with the code 0x0000007B, Inaccessable_Boot_Device, had to log into the recovery console once more to remove the hotfix. Hope this new information comes in handy.
  19. Having a problem trying to install the new v2.2i kernel extension. It complains that atl.dll is in use...however, I can't terminate everything connected to it otherwise I get a BSoD. What's up?
  20. This might be irrelevant, but is there any service packs slipstreamed into your media? If it's just plain Windows 2000, there might be incompatibilities. It's just a guess at this point though. Also, did you try formatting it with the Windows 7 disk first? It's also possible that Windows 7 is preventing Windows 2000 from functioning properly during the installation. Also, are there any OSs installed on the laptops? Did you set the laptops to IDE (if possible). I've found a rare case where you needed to load the SATA drivers during the installation. I worked on a laptop that required the drivers slipstreamed into the installation media. Hope this new information helps!
  21. I'm posting this here as I'm sure it requires some bit of kernel extension. Unfortunately I think this is the case where you'll gain something but also lose something. It is possible to get video thumbnails working in Windows 2000. As long as you can get your hands on a copy of shmedia.dll from Windows XP, copy it to the system32 folder, and then use open a command prompt and type in regsvr32 shmedia.dll and press enter to load it into memory. But now there is one more vital step you need to follow. The general instructions are here under workaround: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/292499 However, in step 3, substitute .gif with .wmv, .avi, or whatever else (I've only tested this with those two file formats though) Edit: This doesn't work with .mov files as far as I know Now in step 10, substitute that value with {c5a40261-cd64-4ccf-84cb-c394da41d590}. Now right click in a folder that contains these video files and choose thumbnail view. If done correctly, it should display the very first frame as a thumbnail preview just as Windows XP does. However, it seems the drawback from using this is it shows up as an image thumbnail in left explorer bar rather than showing an actual video preview using a small Windows Media Player bar. So whether or not this is for you, is up to you. I'm only posting it in this thread as I imagine it does require blackwingcat's kernel extension. Hope this helps someone anyway.
  22. I haven't seem to have found any issues except for random explorer.exe crashes once in a great while. Speaking of which, my ISP was telling me that they weren't the problem for all my DNS problems, however, I dialed into a server in another city...and no problems! So, they were lying and there is no problems with the files included in the kernel extensions. But I've been running USP5.1, UR2, and any kernel extension for quite some time now and I haven't seem to run into any major issues.
  23. I have tried this and there doesn't seem to be any difference. I do have UR2 installed so I do have Dnsrslvr.dll 5.0.2195.7280, but I tried what it said in that article and it didn't help. However, strangely enough, it seems that if I do an ipconfig /renew, my internet starts working again for a while. If this starts going beyond Kernel extension updates, we can create a new topic about it. There is a newer version in http://www.windows2000.tk/updates/#kb951748 Dnsrslvr.dll 5.0.2195.7280 (included in UR2)
  24. @Linktopower You need to install IE6 SP1 and IE6.0SP1-KB2722913-WINDOWS2000-X86-ENU otherwise it will not install because it relies on those two things.
  25. @Linktopower Scroll down more, find the version that's v22b aka v2.2b, that's the one that gives you much more benefits and added extensions. v2 only removes the "...is not a valid Win32 program" error. @blackwingcat I've been having a lot of internet issues since using a few of your patches. On a non-modded Windows 2000 SP4 UR1 system, my internet works fine. However, lately i get a lot of DNS can't be resolved issues or my internet just kicks me off all together. I remember once just trying a newer version of iphlpapi.dll that you had worked on and that's when a few of my issues began. Is there anything in there that could be giving me problems, especially since I'm on dialup? My internet is getting to the point where it's almost unusable and I'm working with my ISP's support and they're starting to say that it sounds like my computer isn't picking up the DNS information. Is there anything you know about this?
