  1. @tomasz86: I tried safe mode, it just spit out the same error. I even tried last known good configuration to no avail. @blackwingcat: I didn't try that but I didn't make any registry edits concerning the CPU either, the only thing I did was installed MalwareBytes, other than that, everything was the same as before. @UltimateSilence: I will check that out, but if that is the case, I'll just stay away from MalwareBytes. I have other cleanup programs that work fine but I installed it just to see how if it would find anything my other programs didn't. @Browncoat: They want you to shell out $200+ for their precious operating systems every few years. I love Win2000 and I'm not leaving it. They can have their fancy Windows 7 and 8....don't even get me started on 8. I hate it and always will.
  2. I started my computer up today and got one of these glad tidings. Windows 2000 was starting up and just before it finished, I get a blue screen of death saying system license violation. No matter what I did, I couldn't get passed that. Google didn't help much either. The only change I made to the computer was I installed the latest version of Malware Bytes and did a full scan which it didn't even find anything wrong with the C:\ drive. All I know is when I was about to turn my system off, it started lagging so bad that I just turned it off with the power switch, I boot it up today and that's what I got. I want to reinstall 2000 but I hate to think I'll be getting this again and lose some of my data which I ended up doing. I got most of my stuff but not all of it. So I tried an emergency repair and that didn't work either. So, does anyone have any idea what causes this. I know I got this once before and I don't know if it was after I install MB or what, I can't remember. But why would 2000 be spitting out such a rediculous error? How can you be violating your license, it doesn't even make sense. I could see this happening with XP+, but not really with 2000. Any suggestions on this will be appreciated greatly.
  3. I think most of us who use Windows 2000 use them on newer computers with bigger capacity hard drives and in today's world of storage, 5MB just really isn't worth it, but that's just me. If I'm reading correctly, .NET framework 4.0 will be included? Is that something that's already been ported or is that one of your projects specifically related to this service pack? I have a couple of applications that require .NET Framework 4.0 and I can't use them on Windows 2000 because of that limitation.

I'm thinking maybe I didn't have the latest root security catalogs installed. Had one heck of a time getting Windows Update to work though, I actually had to add the site to my trusted sites for the first time ever but I finally have it working. But I might be wrong too as the catalog files installed but the WD update failed so I don't know, it works now though.
  5. I'm still having a problem, unless I need to restart my computer or something afterwards. I do have a bit of trouble comprehending which MpSigStub file I need to set compatibility in, the one in system32 or the one in the actual update file. I tried both and neither work. I do have a log if anyone would be interested in looking at to see what I'm doing wrong, I'd appreciate it. I also don't know if this matters or not, but I'm using tomasz86's update rollup which disables the automatic updates, would that make a difference in trying to update Windows Defender?
  6. Windows Defender is said to work, but I can't get it to update at all, is there something I'm missing? I try doing it manually and it still doesn't update at all.
  7. That is strange. I know she uses the web editor so I don't know if it's the default settings or what. But the funny thing is that it never happens on Vista or 7, and at first I thought maybe by some stupid weird chance that it had something to do with cleartype, but I don't think so. Searching online yields nothing though.
  8. Are you going to include any kernel extensions in it? If you do, Silverlight 5 works fine as far as I know.
  9. I had this happen on an XP machine one time where the Security tab was missing, it seems to me that a vital service was stopped or disabled. I can't remember which one but you may want to start looking there.
  10. If you have trouble exporting the data itself, close down outlook. Now I'm speaking for Outlook 2003 but it might be the same for Outlook 2007 which I want to get eventually. But I usually put in %appdata% in the address bar which takes you to the roaming folder. Go up one level and you see Local, LocalLOW, and Roaming, go into Local, and now my memory is a little fuzzy here but it might be in Microsoft and then Outlook. The PST should be in there and you can do a simple copy and paste. I started doing that and it's a lot faster and easier than exporting via Outlook. As for your installation trouble, maybe post a screenshot of the error you're receiving? I know 64-bit Windows is picky about certain applications but Office shouldn't be. Office 2007 and Office 2010 both 32-bit should go hand in hand but I could see the problem if you tried installing a 64 bit version over a 32 bit version. But if you worried about your outlook data, try my method to get your stuff in a safe place and then experiment with it.
  11. Outlook generally gives you the option to backup your email/addresses etc...I never did it in Outlook 2007 but in Outlook 2003 it would be under File...Import/Export and export the .pst file someplace safe. Hope that at least points you in the right direction.
  12. That could be and if it can't be done, that's fine, I can live with it. What do you mean when you say Windows 2000 can't read namespace formats? Where would you find examples of these since I'm a little curious myself and would like to investigate.
  13. Seems like it's working great! Haven't had any problems with it so far. And I see you have the number sorting issue in file names I pointed out fixed in it, you're awesome dude! There is one other thing, is there a way you can change thumbnails in explorer with a kernel extension of some sort? Like in TweakUI for Windows XP, you can set the quality and size of thumbnails when set to thumbnail view in explorer. Is there any way to address that too?
  14. Yes, definitely. I'm an avid fan of Windows 98 and Windows 2000. I'm currently using Windows 2000 right now and I love it much better than the new (out of respect, I'll say stuff) stuff Microsoft came out with. Personally, I feel Vista and 7 are way too bloated for their own good and what extras do you really get out of it that you wouldn't with Windows 98? I'm not really counting WMC or WMM, but I'm saying what does the computer do differently now than it did long ago? And personally, I think Aero is just plain boring. Windows 7 is way up there in boring imo. I just love good old fast Windows 2000, the OS you can use on a fast computer, click on something and it pops up instantly. <3 And the new Windows flags starting with XP and above? Forget about it! The original classic logo was the best.
  15. I've never been able to figure this problem out. There's one friend I have who uses Yahoo mail and anytime she sends me an email, the body itself is blank. The only way I can read it is highlighting which then makes the text show up until something gets in the way. I do have a signature that is put in automatically. This problem occurs on Windows 2000 SP4 with ALL updates, but here's the strange part, this doesn't happen in Outlook 2003 on Windows Vista/7. This doesn't happen with anyone else I get email from. I also have the latest Office service pack installed too. Any ideas?
  16. Amazing! Problem solved! Check that one off the list!
  17. Update: After investigating a little further, it seems even the v15o kernel is affected in conjunction with WMP10. As soon as WMP10 is removed, the problem is cleared up. However, something I noticed is it doesn't just effect right click in My Computer. If you select a drive and try using the menubar up on top, the same thing happens. So there must be a conflict in either WMP10 or the kernel extension. But when you enter the drive itself and right click, everything is fine. You can see the drive properties and all that good stuff. It just seems to affect the menus in My Computer. I actually unzipped the installer and just used MP10_2K to install it so I used no wrappers at all and I still have that problem after installation. Hope this information helps.
  18. Yes, that's all I ever use. We were discussing it here if you wish to read it: tomasz86 was able to reproduce the error himself. It might give you more insight as to what's going on.
  19. I guess I'll post this here since it is relevant. It seems there's a bug between the latest ENU kernel update 15p3 and WMP10. When you right click on drives in My Computer, explorer crashes. It only seems to be a problem after you install WMP10.
  20. So does the Revolutions Pack do anything bad to it? The only reason I use it is not for the updated toolbar, but because Dr. Hoiby's 256 systray patch doesn't perfectly patch all of it, one thing I can think of offhand is WinZip quick pick, where RP patches it completely, making the true color icons show up. As for WMP10, I always thought WMP9 needed to be installed first. If that's not the case then I won't worry about it. I'm wondering if I had this problem before with W2k but I never noticed it as I don't really right click on my drive icons that often. I think I went to initiate an AVG scan and that's when I discovered it. At least we know what the problem is now. So, if I may ask, why did you strip gdiplus.dll, Windows Installer 3.1 and the like from the UR2? Do you plan on adding them back in later on or just leave it as it is?
  21. Hmm, I don't think it's my copy even though surprisingly, I don't find the actual file on any of my Windows 2000 CD-ROMs. I do know in the past with the original UR2 package that I had no problems at all. Typically I would install Windows, then the UR2 package, then IE6, then BWC kernel, then WMP9, then WMP10. With all of that in the past, I never had a single problem, everything just worked. I do have the API wrappers installed with Ez Install enabled. Later on I'll try some of your configurations when it's not so late. I've done this at least a million times and never had any issues so I'm not exactly sure what's going on now. I'm uploading my Add/Remove Programs and what I see when I right click on the My Computer drives. And none of this stuff I have installed is any different than I always had except for the different rollup package.
  22. Update: I figured it out! After installing Blackwingcat's latest version of Windows Media Player 10, when right clicking on an explorer drive, explorer crashes. It doesn't seem to happen on anything except in My Computer, it seems right clicking on anything else, anywhere else, is fine.
  23. @tomasz86: Yes, absolutely correct. During the install of WMP9, the error for msdmo.dll comes up approximently five times before install continues and it says install was not successful which it always did for me anyway. When you launch the player, it launches fine and everything else is fine as well, but as soon as you try to play something, it crashes. It works perfectly though when I put my XP msdmo.dll file in the system32 file. There is no reason I use that version, it's just that I have a system32 XP cache on my external in case I needed certain files.
  24. Ah, that makes perfect sense! Thanks for clearing that up for me! Well, sadly, I can't reproduce the error now. However, WMP does complain about msdmo.dll not being present when installing WMP9 which I've never experienced before. I was wondering why the package was smaller than the last UR2, if I remember correctly, the one I had was around 51MB. I didn't experience any problems with that myself. So anyway, if I try installing WMP9, it does complain about that dll being missing and when I try to play something with the player afterwards, it crashes and explorer seemed to go with it. If that's any help of any kind for anything or if you want me to check into anything else, let me know.
  25. I did not slipstream IE6, and that's something very important I left out. I installed IE6 after I installed the ALPHA3 update, which I've always done. I do not have WB's kernel at all, I've only dealt with blackwingcat's. As an update right now, ALPHA doesn't seem to be causing the problem. I have just installed IE6 and I'm going to see what happens. It DOES however seem like it said that IE encounted a problem and needed to close after the exception, then that's when My Computer closed out. However, it is not doing that now. I will install bwc's kernel and see what happens. Now there's something I've never been able to actually understand, how does the update itself work? You said that there's no way bwc's kernel could get overwritten. How is that possible? Is the file actually overwritten or does it just expand? When you install the update, I'm sure a copy of kernel32 gets copied, so how could it not get overwritten? I hope that question makes sense.
